Former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania has a commanding lead among Republican presidential candidates in Texas, according to a new University of Texas/Texas Tribune poll.
Santorum would get the votes of 45 percent of the respondents if the election were held today, according to the survey. The other three candidates in the GOP race former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and U.S. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas are clustered well behind. Gingrich got 18 percent, Romney received 16 percent and Paul garnered 14 percent.

Ouch, babe.
It shows just how much endorsements really mean since the dearly beloved Rick Perry endorsed Newt.
Romney a distant 3rd in Texas :P
That one just shows how much Perry is respected, and how likely he was to have carried his own state had his campain continued.
I wonder if Saint Rick could win West Texas. I am surprised to see that he is leading in TX; I had expected Gingrich to prevail. I imagine many think Gingrich will have pulled out by that time, but Newt says he will be in the running in Tampa!
More that it shows how utterly hopeless we are in 2012.
If Texas is so dense that it tosses its votes to this guy then we might as well hold the general election in July to save us the grief.
Newt’s placing in Florida is what is hurting him here. This will probably change in Newt’s favour, if he does very well come Super Tuesday.
Texas is awash with illegals,I guess Newts amnesty plan of ILLEGAL RESIDENTS WITH 25 yr. roots was deemed unacceptable. We still cannot afford that many getting grants & instate rates.
Santorum does not do amnesty schemes...guess the word got out.
Do you think Italian Americans, many of whom are traditionally Democrat, are contributing to Saint Rick’s surge? Or is it the view that Saint Rick has the moral bearing to lead us to victory?
The religious freedom issue has welded Santorum to the lead in Texas.
This is still a bible belt state (Austen and Houston not withstanding) and that has always been Santorum’s strong issue.
What’s the alternative Flip McRomney or Nancy Gingrich.
Santorum is the fallback establishment candidate.
Take that, Ann Coulter!
It seems that Ron Paul won’t be able to carry his home state. So of course, according to the Gingrich Rule, Ron needs to drop out.
Santorum is the only one of the four who is not afraid of the MSM or of Obama. Rick feels free to say what he thinks. That is such an awful offense to RINOs!!!!!
I only see embarrassment for Santorum and his faith here on FR and on TV. People who meet Santorum like him. Maybe that is why he is surging.
There is a quiet undercurrent out there, people who are fed up with the culture of the country. This election is about more than the economy. The media will just lie and create a false economy to cover Obama.
Saint Rick? Remember Saint Sarah? Those terms are meant to be slams.
Beats being known as a junkyard dog and a person who can’t be trusted.
No, no, no.
Think like a Paultard.
Wrong Paul won’t be able to carry his home state - therefore drugs should be legal, then he would win and save us from Obama...
