The Whispers in the Loggia blog (WITL) has obtained a bishops-only internal briefing that was circulated soon after President Obama’s announcement of his HHS regulation “compromise.”...what follows “is the text of tonight’s internal, bishops-only briefing, obtained by Whispers and signed by the aforementioned quintet: the conference president, Cardinal-designate Timothy Dolan of New York, and the bench’s committee chairs for Pro-Life Activities, Cardinal Daniel DiNardo of Galveston-Houston; Doctrine, Cardinal Donald Wuerl of Washington; Domestic Policy, Bishop Stephen Blaire of Stockton, and the newly-formed arm on Religious Liberty, Bishop William Lori of Bridgeport.” Here is the briefing:

> Other than this issue the bishops are for Obamacare.

Yes.

This is the very heart of the matter.

Thank you for the clarity.

They are just socialists that happen to object to abortion and birth control because of some quaint church tradition.

I’m not sure how many of them even genuinely object to the concepts.

And if the Catholic Church gets an exemption, why can’t anyone else who objects to 0bamaoCare on “free exercise” grounds?

Free exercise is recognized by the Constitution for individuals, not just for well-endowed organizations.

I believe one large insurance company is going to oppose this. Their CEO was astounded that they were being made to offer such services free...and he had heard this for the first time on TV.

Obama really does think he’s king...or something.

Exactly. This is why the Catholic bishops are completely full of sh!t on this. They are 100% behind ObamaCare, as long as they can weasel their way out of certain provisions under the guise of some "religious exemption."

These bishops should be standing up for the rights of Catholic employers -- or anyone else, for that matter -- who determine that these provisions of ObamaCare are an outrageous violation of their God-given rights.

What I want to know is why aren’t the insurance companies - indeed all businesses - OUTRAGED at the president ordering a private business to provide a product or service for free

I was watching a segment on some show last night and they mentioned that some insurane companies might favor this because it is cheaper to pay for a couple pills as opposed to the monies that would go out for a pregnancy.

Obama didn't lie to anyone. He simply didn't point out to these Catholic bishops that most of the organizations they run aren't "religious" and therefore wouldn't meet the standards for a religious exemption.

These bishops are full of sh!t. They've been in bed with Caesar for decades and are trying to pretend they still have something to offer to God.

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops is a secular lobbying organization that has been a strong-supporter of so many Marxist ideas (including government-run health care) for years. 'Eff them all.

You are quite wrong about this. There are many good bishops who have voiced concerns about this bill form the get-go. You simply never hear about it from the media.

Catholics didn't "walk away" from adoption at all. They simply decided (correctly) that they couldn't stay in the "adoption business" (i.e., take government money for their services) under the terms they were given. There is absolutely nothing that prevents any Catholic organization (and by this I mean a religious organization that doesn't need Caesar's help to exist) from running their own adoption services. In fact, that's what they SHOULD be doing.

The Catholics sold no one down the Obamacare river. Obama simply lied to them like he’s lying to them now

Most Catholics are not Catholic. They like to say they are.
Most Christians are not Christian. They like to say they are.
Most Conservatives are not Conservative. They like to say they are.

The American people have sold themselves down the river of slavery and there is little chance of escape, because they (we) won't let go of our particular vice and/or fear long enough to hear God's voice.

Obama was easily identified as a stone cold Alinsky Marxist, yet "Catholics", "Christians", and "Conservatives" elected him.

Not saying Catholics are not Christian, btw.

As Christians, we should be working together to fight this attack on freedom....not attacking one another.

Pray for our nation!

“This is so wrong that I hope and pray that the Bishops do not fall for this evil ploy.”

I think they will fall for it. Of course they will. And Obama knows it too.

There will never be 60 votes in the Senate to repeal it, so at best it will go dormant for awhile.

The filibuster is an effective hinderance to legislation and appointments. And,Harry Reid, as senate minority leader, will visiously try to block a repeal of O-care. But sooner or later the dems will have to vote on something if for no other reason than to get their precious earmarks.

You are correct. All of what is happening is a product of our secular culture and we are ALL to blame. We have ignored God for far too long. Thus, we removed ourselves from His protection. He has allowed this in His great MERCY ....so that we would WAKE UP and return to Him with our whole heart.

The funny thing is, most liberals aren’t liberal either. I know so many people who say they are liberal but live their life as conservative capitalists. Maybe if we could stop joining ‘teams’ and all become Americans again ... it happened for one brief shining moment on 9/12. Then the bad ones stormed the castle ...

The people need to decide if freedom is important or not. Do they want to be wards of the state and have their children be mind-controlled slaves to the rich and powerful? or do the people want to be masters of their own destiny? We live in murky times.

They should repeal it on a majority vote only. That’s how it was passed.

Any bishop in that position should have tendered his resignation from the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops years ago. The USCCB has a well-documented track record of supporting this Marxist sh!t for years -- and looking the other way when these ouotrageous "mandates" are included in these health care bills.

The USCCB has had a stated policy of supporting "reform of the nation's health care system" (i.e., collectivize it) for years.

So far they (the Bishops) are saying that the “compromise” is unacceptable.

It appears now that it says the Secretary can do anything she likes.

This is just the first of what is going to be many battles ,or if no one battles, the first of the control of our lives (or deaths) with this one bill
