While billionaire casino mogul Sheldon Adelson may have rescued Newt Gingrichs campaign in its early days, today, he may have just buried it.
Bloomberg News reports that Adelson, who has donated $11 million to Gingrichs Super PAC, does not plan to send any more money Gingrichs way. Bloomberg is citing an anonymous source familiar with their deliberations, though an Adelson spokesman declined to comment.
The move seems to be weeks in the making. After poor showings by Gingrich in the last several races and the re-resurgence of Rick Santorum, the former House speaker has once again been pushed to the back of the Republican field. And Adelson may be shifting his focus. According to CNN, Adelson met with Mitt Romney in Nevada last week and assured Romney that he will be behind him 100 percent should he become the nominee.
What may be more alarming though is as money seems to be flooding out of the Gingrich camp, it appears to be heading into to Santorums, no doubt helped by his three-state sweep Tuesday.

That is almost exactly what I told my boss yesterday while he was trying to convince me mittens was the only one. Money sticks with money. Period end of story.
He did hesitate, with a barry uh uh uh, before his response.
3 Months ago: However, I dont think Gingrich has a chance of winning the gop nomination and doubt he will do well in the south.
What will it be after Palin makes here C-PAC Keynote tomorrow.?
Keep the insults down people it helps no one. Computer hackers exist largely because it is easier to tear something up, than it is to build something.Ducking from legitimate coders
You don't have much of a sense of irony, do you? But I guess you have a point. The $1.6 million that moved from our pockets into Newt's, via Freddie Mac, would more properly be considered a theft than a sale.
Santorum is bankrolled by 2008 MYTH supporter and multimillionaire Friess.
The Mormons plan is to use the sweater vest idiot who voted to force workers to belong to unions and pay dues against their will to siphon delegates and cash from Gingrich until he drops out, then Friess stops paying for numbnuts from PA’s campaign ads
Romney is not taking any chances and fully intends to buy the nomination.
Thanks for the link! well as we have witnessed so much can happen in a few weeks. Lets pray that Newt soars on super tuesday and is on fire during the debates.
You know darn well that Gingrich's company got that money. HE was NOT paid that personally. And the contracts have been made public. Nice try at a smear but you missed.
You make a great point. How foolish do these people look, turning such a complete 180.....unless intended to make Newt look "bad" from the start.
"You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor". Those kind of things do come back at you, either sooner or later......but ALWAYS.
Boy, I sure hope you’re right.
There goes your salary. :-)
GOODBYE
He will also need debates.
I won't be supporting Santorum or Romney. Can't stand do-gooders...especially those who don't see the error of their ways.
Gingrich or Paul for me.
I miss Palin.
Newt’s done due both to negative ads and to Newt. Now it’s down to Romney, Santorum or a brokered convention.
AMEN and AMEN, onyx! I'll just add this:
GO FREE REPUBLIC!
Newt Gingrich, the Tea Party movement and Free Republic add up to a renewed America, based on genuine Constitutional principles.
Poor timing by Adelson.
Gingrich gave a knockout speech, compared to the fair speech by Romney and they decent speech by Santorum.
Newt’s speech was one of the more substantive speeches you will see that is a campaign speech.
He has the bold vision and commitment to the Growth Agenda that this country needs.
According to CNN, Adelson met with Mitt Romney in Nevada last week and assured Romney that he will be behind him 100 percent should he become the nominee.

Well, it doesn’t say he is stopping money to Gungrich and sending it to Romney.
It says IF Romney should be the nominee, he will be behind him 100%.
The man already gave 11 million dollars, that is quite a bit of money. It just reads to me like the man is done giving until we have a nominee.
I have supported Palin,Perry, Cain, Newt, Santorum. Willing to defend Romney. But on FR I hesitate to say what I think of how these candidates are performing. You mentioned Palin, I think she has disappointed on her Fox appearances, seems too nervous, needed a good speech advisor. We’ll see how she does at CPAC.
Maybe Newt should have ponied up $1,000 to get on the Missouri ballot. Sounds like Santorum is da man right now.
I am sure Adelson can afford to do whatever he wants; but, why not reach some sort of accomodation w/Romney (whom he already has admitted he will support if Newt drops out) if it will save him some money in the long run?
Can you give me a better reason for why Romney floated such a strange idea at that particular time (right before the Nevada primary) I’m certainly open to your suggestions. Raising the minimum wage on an automatic basis seems like a totally incongruous thing for Romney to suggest ...especially since he’s been trying to portray himself as a conservative.
Gingrich was paid a whole $35,000 per year.
Nothing like lying about it, is there Minn?
