For all the pomp and excess of Madonna's Super Bowl halftime show, it is likely to be a single extended middle finger by guest singer M.I.A. that is most remembered.
The gesture, accompanied by a barely disguised expletive, came during a performance of Madonna's new single, "Give Me All Your Luvin." At the end of her lines, M.I.A. appeared to sing "I don't give a (expletive)," although it was hard to hear clearly.
The incident was reminiscent of Janet Jackson's infamous "wardrobe malfunction" eight years ago -- a surprise risque moment in front of tens of millions of unsuspecting viewers. The brief exposure of Jackson's nipple during the 2004 halftime show raised a storm of controversy and put CBS in hot water with the Federal Communications Commission.
The Super Bowl, shown on NBC this year, is routinely viewed by more than 100 million people, the biggest TV event of the year.
The screen briefly went blurred after M.I.A.'s gesture in what seemed like a late attempt to cut out the camera shot. The NFL, which produces the show, had no immediate comment.

“I missed this tramp giving the finger - it was lost among all the spread legs, hip thrusts, and sado-masochistic sexual gestures.”
I missed the whole sorry a$$ed production! Who gives a rat’s a$$ about watching a bunch of overpaid simians play a stupid game. As bad as it probably was, the “half time show” was probably better than the “game.”
And we care about disease ridden bisexual skank has been musician whores on Freerepublic, why?
Im sure the troops watching didnt appreciate the finger.
Sheesh. I thought the half time show was awful. I didn’t even notice this obsene gesture. Although I do think that people make a big deal of things that really there is no need for. People always look for something to complain about. If they really want to complain about something. Complain about the fact the half time show was boring and that the horrible Giants won....now that is important stuff to complain about.
Cee Lo Green, who actually had a big hit with a song called, “F-— You.”
Actually the official title is “I wanna f-— you.” Just for accuracy....lol.
> Im still mad at Janet Jackson.
Her nipple cost me 3 days in the hospital.
Thats my story and Im sticking to it
Mind explaining that? Sounds interesting...
They say 100 million people watch the Superbowl so having any affect would take a serious boycott which as you know never work. I think the best part about this for the network is the controversy. What I think should happen is just ignore the gesture and then the network will not get all this “great” free publicity. They love it but to have news stories about this which nobody noticed while watching it a bit much. Same with the Janet Jackson thing.....nobody saw it until the stories came out and then everyone went to their DVRs or You Tube to see what the fuss was about. Ignoring the controversy in this situation is best IMHO.
“The music sounded like old pop, and she seemed to be lip-syncing.”
Yep. Madonna (or whatever her real name is) is just another entertainment whore, desperate to regain some semblance of relativity in the enternaiment world. She never could sing, dance or even entertain. Just another empty suit, with no talent, no ability and absolutely no relavency in the world.
“Same as it ever was. Same as it ever was.”
Question: With all her millions in cash, why the fugg hasn’t she fixed that horrid cleft pallet yet? What a revolting creature.
Nice misdirection. We were all waiting for Madonna to flash a boob so probably few people noticed the dude with the finger.
I ended up in the hospital on the night of that super bowl.
I told all the nurses it was Janet Jacksons nipple that did the deed.
Its just an joke.
She was getting all the press and there I was all kinda alone.
I got some nice visitors and I’m still here.
Haven’t heard much from Janet lately though.
PUPPY BOWL!
Obama can request the song she did at the Super Bowl.
So classy... I’ve never heard of M.I.A. before. Guess I’m out of it (and don’t care, lol).
Marking! Man I loved Healy when I lived in Southern California. Would always try to be in the car when he came on.
What do I think of Kingman’s performance? I think it was horsesh*t....
That is what I watch and also I had ENJOYED the kitten halftime show. No Madonna for me! :)=^..^=
Whaaa..? Was it something in her breast milk?
Rabid, although your post was deleted before I got here, was it something to do with Operation M... F...?
One could speculate that the recent halftime shows were instigated by Markoff Chaney.
I liked the tribute to 9/11 that U2 performed in 2002. Their frontman is a pretentious windbag, but I thought that he hit it solid, that night.
Otherwise, nope. Other than those named on this thread, and the "infamous" Jackson/Timberlake show.....I'm not sure I could name anyone else who has performed.
And I heard Madonna guarantee that nothing like this would happen. I didn’t even notice it. I actually thought the show was pretty good. It looked like it would have been pretty cool if you were actually in the stadium.
I like it when they make use of the big venue. I think it is much better than when they have those little fake crowds of people in front of the stage. Who are those people? They never look like real fans.
I like your sense of humor. It’s a lot like my own. :)
