What to do? What to do?

I am a 52-year-old mother of three children - a 24-year old grad student, a 21-year old college senior, and a 13- year-old 7th grader. I am a public school teacher of Math to 7th graders.

I am concerned about the welfare of our country, our Constitution, and the hope (NOT Obama's) for our nation. PLEASE help me to understand what is happening to our country.

I am dismayed by the garbage I am hearing and reading. I have been involved in local politics. I could NOT suffer the bullsh*t, so I resigned from the county Republican Executive Committee, after 5 years and two years on the State Executive Committee. Frankly, I do not come from, nor do I possess, the money that is necessary to serve in these capacities. I had visions, but those visions were naive...

Please help me to understand what it is that I am to do...

If you have nothing positive to offer, then DO NOT REPLY, as I am weary of folks who present a "better than thou" attitude and/or who think I am "a newbie".

I am searching and reaching out...

Yes, pray. But don’t focus on the presidential race. Ask God to rise up wise and honorable men and women for public office at all levels and for conservatives to hold the House and retake the Senate. Because regardless of whether the next president is Obama, Mitt or Newt, a conservative Congress is going to have to hold them in check.

Have you ever wondered what happened to the 56 men who signed the Declaration of Independence?

Five signers were captured by the British as traitors, and tortured before they died. Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned.

Two lost their sons serving in the Revolutionary Army, another had two sons captured.

Nine of the 56 fought and died from wounds or hardships of the Revolutionary War. They signed and they pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor. What kind of men were they?

Twenty-four were lawyers and jurists. Eleven were merchants, nine were farmers and large plantation owners; men of means, well educated. But they signed the Declaration of Independence knowing full well that the penalty would be death if they were captured.

Carter Braxton of Virginia, a wealthy planter and trader, saw his ships swept from the seas by the British Navy. He sold his home and properties to pay his debts, and died in rags.

Thomas McKeam was so hounded by the British that he was forced to move his family almost constantly. He served in the Congress without pay, and his family was kept in hiding. His possessions were taken from him, and poverty was his reward.

Vandals or soldiers looted the properties of Dillery, Hall, Clymer, Walton, Gwinnett, Heyward, Ruttledge, and Middleton. At the battle of Yorktown, Thomas Nelson, Jr., noted that the British General Cornwallis had taken over the Nelson home for his headquarters. He quietly urged General George Washington to open fire. The home was destroyed, and Nelson died bankrupt.

Francis Lewis had his home and properties destroyed. The enemy jailed his wife, and she died within a few months. John Hart was driven from his wife’s bedside as she was dying. Their 13 children fled for their lives. His fields and his gristmill were laid to waste. For more than a year he lived in forests and caves, returning home to find his wife dead and his children vanished. A few weeks later he died from exhaustion and a broken heart.

Norris and Livingston suffered similar fates.

Such were the stories and sacrifices of the American Revolution. These were not wild eyed, rabble-rousing ruffians. They were soft-spoken men of means and education.

They had security, but they valued liberty more.

Standing tall, straight, and unwavering, they pledged:

“For the support of this declaration, with firm reliance on the protection of the divine providence, we mutually pledge to each other, our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor”.

They gave you and me a free and independent America. The history books never told you a lot of what happened in the Revolutionary War.

We didn’t just fight the British. We were British subjects at that time and we fought our own government!

Some of us take these liberties so much for granted.....we shouldn’t.

To understand what’s going on I would suggest reading the histories of varies political philosophies i.e Nazism, Communism, Socialism and Fascism. I did so when I was in college and it gave the knowledge to understand what is going on right in our country. With that said I’m a conservative who believes in our constitution but I have lost faith in the institutions of our government.

Now if you read the histories of these political philosophies THEY all have ONE thing in common and that is INDOCTONATION OF THE YOUTH. Our higher education shifted from a conservative patriotic surrounding sometime in the 60’s to a radical form of teaching. Yes there was always a undercurrent of radical teaches in higher education but it wasn’t as pervasive as it is now. If you remember the 70’s it really started to take hold them. For the radicals i.e. Liberals its been a thirty year or more to get someone they could get elected and control well they found him in O.

This indoctrination has eat away the moral fabric of our Society. You see it in the media and such. The media is the mechanism they use to further the breakdown of our norms. Our norms took a big hit in the Clinton-era (You know what I mean) and it hasn’t been the same since.

However, there is hope all societies go through the same type of cycles we are in now. When the new American Enlightenment will happen I don’t know but IT WILL.

Do not worry about things which are outside of your control.

worry about what you can control- your children, your family, and being a solid role model for your students. Present the truth, to educate and help, not to condemn. Do not despair - despair is a sin!

“steadfast and persevering, fully engaged in the work of the Lord.”

Do all this - and your influence, whatever your job or position, will be far greater than you know.

Wind up Lanterns - LL Bean

Wind up flashlights- llBean and others.

Wind up Radio. You will never be able to buy enough batteries.

Battery operated Fan for Summer. You can use it sparingly to make the batteries last.

Every time you go to the store buy a can of something (canned meat, canned soup (not condensed), 4 pkg of toilet paper, instant coffee, canned drinks, and water.

Buy a water filter like Zero water. Rotate your water.

A gun and ammo. Find the money for this, it might just save your life.

Make a bug out bag for you and anyone at home. Keep it by the door, and keep it full of food, as much money as you can, and ammo.

Keep the car/van/truck full of gas. When you hit half a tank, fill it up. If you have to try to get out of town to family, you’ll be glad you did this.

And, last but not least pray. Talk to your local pastor (if you have one) or find a church who is also making plans. If you can’t get out of town if things go down hill, you’ll at least be able to make it to the church.

Just a few suggestions.

The Republican Party has done this to too many people!

You’re in Virginia. Start with Americans for Prosperity http://www.americansforprosperity.org/foundation and ask for referrals to grassroots movements. Abigail Adams Project http://abigailadamsproject.com/ Get involved in these movements that are committed to DOING SOMETHING concrete.

I’m similar to you, a single mom of two twenty-something kids, scared and sad. I did not want to go back to the Republican party. In October 2011, I responded to an Americans for Prosperity email to do bill analysis at the state level. I was able to bring my strengths and skills to the table. We now have a highly organized 200 person volunteer project where each person tracks a bill through committee hearings and write up reports. Then we broadcast points for volunteers statewide to contact their legislators.... this is done daily. We get the legislators while they’re in committee! It’s almost too late once bills are on the floor. But we’re there too - with a war room. There are lots of grassroots movements doing unique things.

Just my 2c, about arms.

Nothing less than 40 cal. 9 mil is useless in the grand scheme of things, for personal protection, if you have to protect yourself or loved ones.

22 rifle is good for small game.

Shotgun for a house gun.

Become proficient in the use of all, that you have. purchase ammo and store it, stick to only a few types of like weapons.

For me, I have several weapons, but only 2 calibers.

And like was previously stated PRAY.

Do not trust Dem or Repub, there is no real difference between them.

After a gut-wrenching moment 17 years ago my Bible opened up to me and the answer was in John after a serious night of prayer. The pages moved around as my questions were furious. Old and New, back to Old and back to New. I cried for the first time in 20 years. It was quite a moment with Me, the Holy Ghost and my Lord.

Fantastic thread. But also sobering.

I am about your age. I think folks our age and above just remember the good days of America, when it was strong. Perhaps never perfect, but definitely stronger ..and first rate. And we’re seeing its decline. Younger people just don’t have the same perspective.

I am prone to tearfulness lately. I am just sad for America. Sad and angry at the ignorance and evil of so many people now. Just disgusted with the Sheeple mentality. I am also very worried. VERY, very worried for my kids, esp the youngest who is 10 and mildly autistic. I don’t even want to think what his life would be like w/o me ...But this thread really helped me tonight.

In the end, it’s all about God and family. I have cut back at work because I refuse to work like a dog just to pay more taxes and just want to enjoy life and be there for my family. I wonder if they are counting people like me in the employment picture ...

I am NOT a member of the “government unionists”.

Although I am a “public school” teacher, I have opted NOT to be a member of the so-called government union. I do maintain “liability insurance” through CEAI.

You are a teacher, so teach!

Set the example for your students. Show them a positive, God-fearing person who really cares about their futures. Give them hope!!! They will be the ones to turn this around, so they must believe they can.

This is all far beyond politics. GOP or Democrat - really doesn’t matter. The system has been corrupted. Find like minded people in your area and be good friends with them. The strength of our nation is in it’s people and it’s God, not in our politics or out government.
