If no current GOP Presidential candidate garners more than 50% of delegates during the primary, Republican delegates can have the opportunity to vote for anyone they wish, whether or not they are currently a candidate. This is called a brokered convention
If you were a delegate, would you prefer one of the current candidates or consider somebody currently not in the race?
To make this more intriguing, we paired off potential and current candidates like a sports tournament pairing - choose one person per each match up for each round.
Round 1.
Jeb Bush vs Bobby Jindal -----|
Newt Gingrich vs Paul Ryan -----|
Sarah Palin vs Marco Rubio ----|
Rick Santorum vs Jim Demint ----|
Ron Paul vs Chris Christie ----|
Mitt Romney vs Mitch Daniels ----|
"Other" vs Mike Huckabee -----|
John Thune vs Bob McDonnell ----|
Too many folks have rainbow-unicorn fantasies of what will happen at a brokered convention.
Here is the scoop, the people ‘brokering’ will be the delegates and establishment party officials. The ‘brokering’ will be done between those who are competing to get enough delegates. The brokering is steered by party officials.
Outsiders won’t have any pledged delegates or campaign base there to broker with. They will be starting with zero delegates. They would be lucky to get a handful of switchers.
The most likely outcome of a brokered convention is the most establishment approved candidate gets the nod.
Sorry, but these fantasies are about as realistic as playing D&D for the presidency.
Exactly
” Miss me yet ? “
Bet your boots I do !!
Mitch Daniels and Paul Ryan, of course. Daniels has the more complete record, Ryan is the better communicator.
I agree with you and I’ like to see a Ryan Rubio ticket.
I would like to see Palin join Newt’s ticket.
And get out there to campaign. The energy would explode.
The country needs her now. Newt and her together would be awesome.
Round 1.

****************************
tada! Go Newt!
Glad I scrolled down a few comments before adding mine, as you pointed out the ineligibilty of Rubio and Jindal.
I agree with you on all except Huckabee, and Christie would be very hard to accept as he is a huge RINO.
Jeb Bush is full blown in favor of amnesty for illegal aliens. That isn’t going to pay off with Conservatives who believe in enforcing the laws. He has no chance, ever, and knows it.
Look, pal.. it mentions Palin. That's enough. Nothing else matters.
It keeps alive the hope that Our Sarah will sail in and save us all.
That's good enough for me, you betcha.
Jeb Bush vs Bobby Jindal -| None
Newt Gingrich vs Paul Ryan -|Paul Ryan
Sarah Palin vs Marco Rubio | Palin
Rick Santorum vs Jim Demint |Santorum
Ron Paul vs Chris Christie | None Paul needs to be Sec. of Treasury
Mitt Romney vs Mitch Daniels |None
Other vs Mike Huckabee -| None
John Thune vs Bob McDonnell | None
Ryan/Rubio
I am not sure the GOP is smart enough to see a good ticket if it was slammed into their faces.
I don’t think Huck is a bad guy. I certainly wouldn’t but him near the top of the pack, but I will put him ahead of a generic “other”.
Not a fan of Christie and his liberal social agenda either, but he was up against Ron Paul.
Bobby Jindal’s parents were not U.S. Citizens at the time of his birth, having arrived here for work 6 months prior to his birth. He is a citizen but NOT natural born.
Agree with you, but it sure as s##t doesn't matter to the other side (I will never forgive the Rat party for pissing on the Constitution just to get their Messiah on the ballot).
Haven't heard. It's all a mess, really.
Is Bobby Jindal running? Is Jeb Bush running? Is Paul Ryan running? The whole idea of a brokered convention would be to come up with a candidate who is more acceptable to all factions of the party than Mitt, Newt, Rick, and Ron are.
FReepers will rank Romney last, if at all. And Establishment types will rank Newt as no-go. Both will rank Ron Paul as no-go. InIn that context, Santorum would look a lot better, as he would be acceptable to us and presumably the least objectionable to the establishment, of those actually running. For my part I prefer that the nominee be a former governor, for the simple reason that only one congressman (Lincoln) has ever been elected POTUS, and no senator has ever defeated a sitting POTUS. Palin obviously would suit best, but then, Daniels or even Jeb Bush would be better than Mitt.
