What the hell is going on in Florida today? (Vanity)
January 31, 2012 | no dems

Posted on 01/31/2012 7:39:19 AM PST by no dems

Read a poll here on FR last night, Posted by another FReeper, and had a hard time sleeping. I woke up this morning with a couple of questions:

1. When 34% of the Tea Partiers polled are going for Romney, Paul or no one in FL today, what the hell is going on?

2. When many Evangelicals are voting for a Marxist Mormon today in FL, what the hell is going on?

I'm to the point that I've decided that most voters in America are stupid and this nation deserves what it will get with four more years of Barack Hussein Obama in the White House. So, let the good times roll, mama. To hell with all of them.

If you’d send me their names, I’ll tell them you want me to thank them.

The fool part was in response to you assuming I support Romney and your #212.

Romney is perceived as a wholesome family man and Newt isn’t perceived that way.

Wholesome family men don't push abortion and homosexuality.

Reagan was not an adulterer.

Reagan met Jane Wyman when she was married. She divorced and married Reagan. She divorced him and he married Nancy. Reagan was the first divorcee in the WH.

Newt is no Reagan.

Newt is Reagans Lieutenant. Neither you nor the press can change history.

The press has already creamed her and Perry, and Cain in their bid to elect Romney.

Attacking Gingrich helps Romney.

Oh and, do your own research. It’s your state and elected officials. I’d sure want to know who plays fast and loose with the rules.

I’m no Newt supporter, either. So, if you’re looking for one of his defenders, you’ve got the wrong guy.

None of which changes a thing about the most liberal Governor in history, Willard Mitt Romney.

“I say don’t trust the polls. Of course, if we don’t trust the polls, then there’s no reason to argue that Gingrich is “more electable”, or “ahead of”, or “is the frontrunner”. If we are ignoring electability, and ignoring the polls, there’s no logical reason to attack Santorum for being in the race.

It’s not about the polls.

Santorum has done NOTHING since winning Iowa, a stated he lived in for 3 years.

Gingrich beat Santorum in New Hampshire, South Carolina and will crush him in Florida.

Dems aint polls.

It doesn’t matter how bad or how good their record is, it all has to do with defeating Obama.

So the idea becomes, "let's run Romney, who lost to McCain, who LOST the last election?"

Someone posted last week that Romney has run for office 22 times during his political career and has LOST 17 of those attempts.

I'd say his chances of beating Obama are nil.

Invest in alcohol. It is getting me through the primary season so far. Although I will start to worry if I feel the need for a drink before 10am. LOL!

Imagine two candidates. One is popular amongst a fair part of the electorate, and hated by the rest. The other is kind of boring, loved by some, and the rest find someone else more interesting.

THe first candidate has a larger base of support, but has shown in multiple contests that he has a ceiling of about 40%, so in a head-to-head matchup he will lose.

The other cnadidate has a smaller base, so has been “losing” to the more-popular candidate. However, in this hypothetical, most everybody likes this candidate, and his “ceiling” of support is 51%, instead of 40%.

If that situation existed, your “logic” would tell the guy who could get 51% (and therefore win) to drop out, leaving us with the 40% guy who can’t get any more support.

And if you don’t trust polls, you have absolutely no way of knowing whether Gingrich and Santorum are real-life examples of that hypothetical.

Remember, for a long time Mitt ROmney polled best, but we all knew that he had a ceiling of support and wouldn’t get a lot of extra votes as people dropped out.

But now you are assuming that voters are interchangeable parts, and that Gingrich naturally would own all the Santorum votes. There is no indication that is the case — and much to suggest otherwise. For example, Gingrich won in South Carolina, but Santorum took 17% of the vote. In Florida, Santorum isn’t getting any more of the vote, but Gingrich is losing. Even though everybody “knows” Gingrich needs support, the Santorum voters aren’t moving to him — and there’s nothing stopping them from doing so, Santorum doesn’t “own” them just by being on the ballot.

If GIngrich had given them reason to vote for him, they would have moved, like many Perry supporters moved to Santorum and GIngrich before he dropped out.

Given that the polling data suggests that Romney benefits from either Gingrich or Santorum dropping out, it clearly doesn’t look like the conservative vote is being “split” opening a way for Romney. Instead, it looks like having two candidates is suppressing Romney’s totals, and he’ll only win because Florida gives all their delegates to the plurality winner.

“Newt would be the nominee if not for his past, and Callista’s role in it, too. “

1. All I see is clan of glazed-eyes Mormon cultists.

2. Newt crushed in SC after the Marriane story broke.

3. The GOP E has been attacking Newt with Pelosi/Bonior Leftist lies about his “disgrace” as Speaker...

4. The GOP E would be doing the same to Santorum if he was a real threat.

5. Dammit they will have their Romney landslide loss no matter what.

“I know many conservative women who won’t tolerate having a mistress like Callista Gingrich run for First Lady (”She’s no lady!”). It’s not just Newt’s indiscretions that hurt his chances.”

That is what my wife keeps saying. However she agrees that Romney is not any more worthy of her support so she is voting for Santorum. I on the other hand am voting for Newt not because he is more or less conservative than Santorum. It is because I come from New England, have always been a conservative and know exactly who Romney is. Remember how well Scott Brown worked out?

Romney took every precaution to make sure there were no records of his Massuchusetts administration. Emails, documents, computers you name it, where are they? Gone.....

We no lees about Romney than we know about Newt but with Newt you know what you get. These people supporting Romney are as bad as the people who supported Obama in 2008. Romney will not beat Obama, trust me. He has the same people advising him that advised McCain. Here in Florida he hired Charlie Christs advisors. Obama’s campaign machine will eat him up and spit him out. Just Sayin!!!

If he is the nominee I will vote for him only because I know Obama’s record and i am trying to save my country.

Come to think of it...if women are supporting Romney because he’s a ‘wholesome family man’; where were these women in 2008? Romney LOST to McCain, whose history with women makes Newt look like a choir boy...

Exactly.

It's not about morals. It's about who ran the dirtiest ads and can lie the best.

It’s not at all unusual for approximately 1/3 of a given demographic to vary from the norm. In ‘92 an ‘96 about 1/3 of the ‘Evangelical’ vote went for Clinton.
