Thanks to Dan Riehl for this.
Theres a short excerpt of a 1988 C-SPAN video purportedly showing Newt Gingrich bashing Reagan when talking about how Bush, Sr. should run. As I suspected, its edited to give a false impression. What you dont see is immediately after when Gingrich praises Reaganism and the Reagan platform. If you cant watch it all, it begins at about 2:30 in to confirm its the same segment. Its the minute or two afterward you also need to hear to understand that Newt wasnt bashing Reagan at all.

is there a way do you know that Jim could send out freepmail to all on here in one go and let them know that the MSM, FOX, Drudge and most of talk radio have been lying, attacking and editing for the establishment?
It was disgusting on here earlier when posters were just repeating the lies and attacks from FOX and Drudge
I’d have thought freepers were not as naive.
Rush is really pissing me off. He tries to convince me he is not bias to any of the Republican candidates but he is.
My take on this is that Newt is saying H. W. Bush should run on new ideas and not just say "everything's fine, so let's just re-elect me on that." In other words, don't sit on your ass now that we've got this ball rolling.
I hope that Newt has a good answer to this tonight b/c he'll be asked/attacked on it.
Newt has a lot of Establishment bull to shoot at tonight during the debate.
Newt makes it very clear in the video he wanted to build on Reaganism, but go beyond Reaganism!
The lies Mitt is willing to tell with the help of Drudge and others knows no bounds.
The GOP Elitists that pushed the “Newt Bashed Reagan” meme, have just signed the death warrant for the GOP.
Newt needs a “I paid for this microphone” moment tonight.
the attacks against Newt from the establishment has now made me never to vote for Romney ever , I’ve had it.
What is just as worse is that some republicans , even on here are actually thinking that the lies and attacks are true.
Talk radio, Coulter, Rove, Hume, Hannity, FOX especially have all been lying and just because they are running attacks against Newt constantly does not mean that republicans should just accept it
Probably not. However he does tack important things at the top of FR and posters still ignore them. lol
But if you want some Snapple or overpriced3 tea, he's your go-to shamwow.
Ping!
LOL First time I laughed today.
It seems many still cannot grasp a simple thing as this is a conservative website, don’t come on here pushing your liberal abortion, elitist, homosexual agenda, keep obamacare, more gun laws establishment Romney.
Rush actually said today what this article is saying, that the video was edited selectively.
Nope. Just as many sheep on the right as on the left. That's how the government managed to get so bloated in the first place, and now the sheep think bloated government is the proper and natural order of things.
I am at the 43:00 mark. That quote was at around 9:18 in. Newt is NOT bashing Reagan at all. I am astounded that Rush took Cookie's? opinion that it wasn't taken out of context.
Newt was mainly talking about the general character of people naturally wanting "new and improved." He was not at all attacking Reagan in any way.
I am halfway into this video and I have yet to see where Newt has attacked Reagan at all. It is sickening that Drudge is pushing this distortion.
you raise a very good point
Newt did welfare reform, and wants people to not depend on Govt.
establishment and Romney want their power, money and corruption but they also want people to depend on Govt to give them that power.
The establishment knows that Newt will go after welfare like last time and he will call out the left like last time and heaven forbid the GOP pick a fight and rock the boat with the left.
This is all about keeping the status quo and they know they have to stop us form having our boy win s they are going all out behind the scenes to take out Newt.
Rush is friends with the 'Establishment', and he likes partying with them as much as anybody. I really wish when Rush starts with his excuse making of why the 'rich' help promote and fund liberalism he would name names about who these 'rich' are. I do not care how much $$$$ old Warren has because he is on the path to be commiserating with the 'rich' man feeling the heat as he sees Lazarus in the bosom of Abraham, when he returns to the Maker. NOT one plug nickle these 'rich' liberals have accumulated is going home with them.
right there
The establishment has not been invited tot he white house cocktail parties for some time now and so they are all pushing the RINO thinking that the country is like the north east/beltway.
They got to these fancy elitist cross dressing homosexual parties, meet other establishment elitists and they all defend each other.
I’m fed up with most of talk radio, Drudge, Coulter, Hannity, Rove, Perino, Bush’s, Hume, etc, they are all clinging onto their power and we all get screwed but sadly we still have folks out there which go with what ever they are told and will never wake up because their master on the radio, on TV told them that.
Rush said Newt lied about the “presenting friends to ABC” comment made at last week’s debate. Anything on that?
I really wish people would quit tossing the “establishment” term around.
That was the same term liberal hippies used in the 1960s as they started this country on the march toward socialism.
Instead of making this about cabals and a super secret “establishment” utilize reason to demonstrate why the politics and ideology of the “establishment” is wrong. Let conservatism speak for itself. There is no need to mask it in a pseudo-conspiratorial rhetoric.
Everytime I hear the word “establishment” I think of either a wild eyed hippie or a wild eyed tin-foil hatter. I think the general public probably feels the same way.
