2012 Florida Republican PrimaryFlorida GOP Primary: Gingrich 41%, Romney 32%
Rasmussen Reports ^ | 1-23-12 | Scott Rasmussen

Posted on 01/23/2012 6:38:46 AM PST by Yankee

Less than two weeks ago, Mitt Romney had a 22-point lead in Florida, but that’s ancient history in the race for the Republican presidential nomination. Following his big win in South Carolina on Saturday, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich now is on top in Florida by nine.

“Here’s my take on the primaries. If the country had a balanced budget, a robust economy, and calm global concerns, Mitt would make a fine President. He is a decent man like Bush Sr. He is friendly and is an effective governor. But we are in the midst of epochal shifts in politics and our nation. We must either give up or start to right the ship. Newt, although, a bomb thrower, is the one to reinvigorate conservatism and begin to right the ship. He will be blasted like Reagan was early in his administration. He will be impeached if democrats reach a majority. Every bit of dirt he has ever done from 3rd grade on will be discussed nightly by the captive press. But we need him now! Santorum is one of the most decent human beings alive, but his boy scout image will be shredded by the Chicago thugs and marxists that are attempting to run our country.”

Agree completely. As Obama likes to say, “you don’t bring a knife to a gunfight”. The Dem machine will be going nuclear and Gingrich is the only one with the cojones and the rhetorical ammunition to take them on. It doesn’t guarantee success, but it gives Republicans a chance - something they didn’t have against Clinton in 1996 or against Obama in 2008.

Now Santorum’s within 20 points of Romney! I’ll be early voting today for Santorum. Obama will beat Newt as handily as he’ll beat Romney.

Mitt and Barack send you their warm regards.

Heard Bill Cunningham's show last night and even he said all four of the current candidates are "grade A" and he'd back any one of them. Just last week he was still praying for "someone else to get into the race."

I think we're seeing the start of a curve where conservatives are getting ready to coalesce, and move on to the bigger fight.

Coulter was on Mike Gallagher’s radio show today and that was a real battle, since Gallagher totally disagrees with her and kept bringing up that she said Romney couldn’t win last year. Coulter was extremely harsh and unrelenting against Newt, trying to say he’s a liberal and stuff, and Gallagher just wasn’t prepared to counter her attacks. The Mittbot strategy is clearly now to launch into a long tirade of multiple accusations against Newt so people don’t even have time to think over if each one is true or not.

And yes — Newt needs protection. Does he not already have it as a presidential candidate?

Looks to me like he's got it if that G-Man looking fellow in this photo is any indication. He may have protection just by virtue of being a former Speaker. I recall last time Obama got protection early because of "threats" but normally it isn't given until the nominee is chosen.

I’ve been reading a lot about Glen Beck recently.

“He doesn’t like Newt?”

“He’s for Romney?”

“Enlighten me.”

Glenn Beck is also a Mormon.

I read on another site a comment about Mitt and his reluctance to post his income taxes - word is that he invested a lot in hedge funds over the past four years on the collapse of the economy and made big bucks. He doesn’t want to have to explain himself on that. True or false, I haven’t a clue - just passing on what I read elsewhere.

People who vote early have already made up their mind and have no intention of switching their votes. I voted early yesterday just because I am going to be very busy the rest of the entire week and into Monday before I can get back home. If for some reason I cannot get back to vote before the end of the day Tuesday, I am screwed. It happened to me about 8 years ago and it will not happen again.

I will not trust an absentee vote to be delivered by our postal system so this is the only means to make sure my vote is placed with the precinct where I live.

Hello Dave. I see no one has answered your question about Newt having worked on contract as a consultant to Freddie Mac.

Newt Gingrich worked about 6 years for Freddie and was paid approximately $250,00.00 per year for his services, not a huge amount for government consulting. Freddie Mac ended the contract and there is an existing non-disclosure clause which prevents Newt from making any details public. Mitt Romney knows that fact and as a businessman himself looks ridiculous urging another to violate a business contract.

Newt Gingrich has owned three consulting businessess. He has never been a lobbyist, so Romney is lying about Gingrich’s past.

John Bolton endorses Romney’s presidential run - CNN

http://articles.cnn.com/2012-01-11/politics/politics_romney-bolton_1_presidential-bid-john-bolton-presidential-candidate?_s=PM:POLITICS

In addition to this, I read Bolton’s editorial in the Wall Street Journal extolling Mitt Romney as a “Reaganaut”, as a Conservative.

I had the actual paper in my hands...I didn’t read it online.

When I read that, I thought to myself, Bolton is OVER with Conservatives.

She is going to take a major hit in the career arse, especially if Newt wins the nomintion and then the Presidency. Her main income is from book sales and speaking engagements and guess who buys those the most? C-o-n-s-e-r-v-a-t-i-v-e-s. She’ll be just like another Maureen Dowd now, although Maureen is heterosexual.
