Rasmussen Reports ^ | 1-23-12 | Scott Rasmussen

Posted on 01/23/2012 6:38:46 AM PST by Yankee

Less than two weeks ago, Mitt Romney had a 22-point lead in Florida, but that’s ancient history in the race for the Republican presidential nomination. Following his big win in South Carolina on Saturday, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich now is on top in Florida by nine.

Glenn gave Jon Huntsman Sr one of his awards for humanity.

Huntsman is related to Romney (think the grandfather with five wives in Mexico)

Huntsman fortune is intertwined with Romney's Bain.

Did I leave anything out Mag?

In addition to which, absentee ballots started going out on Dec 17th for military and overseas voters. Some voted for Rick Perry and others already out of the race and are asking for their ballots back. No can do!

Mike Gallagher has been apoplectic at Ann Coulter, Chris Christie and all the conservatives he’s saying are eating their own and making it impossible for them to support a candidate like Newt if he ends up being the nominee. He’s not openly for or against any candidate but it’s subtly clear that Newt is his pick I think. This station has his show streaming live:

He recently appeared on Judge Andrew Napolitano’s show and said that anyone who opposes Obama but would vote for Newt must be motivated by race because there’s no other difference between them.

Beck's 15 minutes are up. The guy has lost his mind.

Here's a video of Romney himself talking to Huckabee about Gingrich, with Romney saying if you believe Gingrich is not a Washington insider, then you must also believe that Clinton didn't inhale:

It's about a 1:20 min video. Sorry if already posted.

I’m surprised the RNC/DNC haven’t been against early voting since it seems it would make campaigns more costly in primaries.

If 14% have voted at that ratio that suggests Romney could secured a 1.5 point advantage for himself in the final tally among the early voters. Obviously Newt can make that up easily with the lead he’s got now if it holds.

Why would you think Mitt wants Newt to win in the fall if he’s the nominee? Obama’s values and policies fall more in line with Mitt’s than Newt’s do. And Mitt would like to be able to try this again in 4 years.

I’ve outlawed early voting in pubbie primaries for myself. As you say, there’s just too much that can happen in the last two weeks before the primary, as we all just saw in SC.

Beck's 15 minutes are up.

I never gave him 15 seconds.

I sized him up for a phony from the first time I heard him.

One thing I've come to know about drunks and other addicts. They are highly manipulative and masters at hiding their true selves.

We are facing a Goliath in the Left and the MSM--and we need a David! Newt is more like the older fallen David than the "pure" young one, but he still has the courage David had so that when he comes up against an enemy, he is all :"Ready, aim, FIRE!"

But we STILL all need to pray that he shoots at the right target--and not his own foot!

If Newt wins the nomination, i think he will have great difficulty convincing a plurality of Americans that he should be president. He is the smartest guy in the room and tells things in a manner that makes complete sense to many people, but there is that feeling that he is a “do as i say, not as i do”. Of course he can always say, “that was then, this is now.”

I think Romney will have great difficulty winning the republican nomination, but he would have better success in convincing a plurality of Americans that he should be president. His history with abortion, and the strangeness of the mormon religion to the South prevents him from being accepted.

Its just too early for Santorum. Hasn’t really done very much except be elected in office. Sort of like Perry. Has the air of the high school student council president. Not a bad thing, just not exciting. Maybe the next time.

Ron Paul - some good ideas on finance and structure of government, but his matter-of-fact opinions on foreign policy and illegal drugs are strange.

In any event, whomever is the nominee, its up to the party to make that individual to commit to traditional conservative issues at the convention, and hold them to the fire if elected, and I’ll support. “ABO” (anyone but Obama)

“Today’s numbers show Obama at 45% and Romney at 43%. Matched against Gingrich, the president leads 48% to 39%. Romney trails by nine among women while Gingrich trails by twelve. Among men, Romney has a slight advantage over the president while Gingrich is down six.” http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/obama_administration/daily_presidential_tracking_poll

But then again, it is only Rasmussen polls.

South Carolina was the answer to the media’s question, what happens when an “inevitable” force meets an “unelectable” object?
