That is an awesome post, Maggief.
She said that it wasn't a compliment to her. Well, what is it years later when it's over and done with and the hens have come home to roost.
I don't want to imply anything other than it's a bit hypocritical to be complaining about something happening to you that you did to someone else.
Marianne is hardly the person to be carrying this forward. I'm assuming she's being paid.
We’ll see it if she did - she’ll be getting a facelift.
I agree with you. As important as the state is, the entire electorate is not comprised of South Carolina-minded voters. How will Gingrich play in Florida? Would Santorum have a better shot at PA and OH? How will Newt look against the Chicago thug commercials showing the perfect obama family against the serial adulterer? There really needs to be some kind of strategy going forward besides throwing out red meat at a debate. Perception is important.
We’re making a huge mistake if we conservatives give this man our standard to carry into the election. Huge mistake. I’m not a big Santorum fan but he’s light years preferable to Newt in my opinion.
Maybe it will appeal to the Ron Paul voters?
America, the beautiful is his mistress! HE LOVES HER!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
True. And that is the reason he cheated on his wives.
Love of Country.
Marriage is between ONE MAN AND ONE WOMAN, and I don’t think a REAL conservative can compromise on that!
Now that just about sums it up. Well said!
Well, I'm not sure I would necessarily count Newt as a degenerate based on the word of an ex-wife (Hell hath no fury ...)
But I really, REALLY, wish we could find a candidate who would be eligible for a Top Secret security clearance. The President, naturally, has access to many (but probably, thank god, not all) of this nation's most closely guarded secrets. Information which, if divulged, could drastically harm our national security. And naturally, the President is granted a clearance on the basis of his election, without the need to undergo a security investigation. It would be nice to have someone of sufficient character that they could receive a clerance based on their past. Clinton and Obama certainly could not have received clearances other than by election - and I think we have paid the price with China (under Clinton) and the Muslim World (under Obama.) And frankly, I doubt with his history that Newt could receive one.
I've said to my wife that the eventual Republican nominee has not yet entered the race, and I believe that more than ever. It will be a brokered convention.
She sounds proud, defiant, maybe a little wistful. You might be inclined to think of what she says as the lament of an abandoned wife, but that would be a mistake. There is shockingly little bitterness in her, and she often speaks with great kindness of her former husband. She still believes in his politics. She supports the Tea Parties. She still uses the name Marianne Gingrich instead of going back to Ginther, her maiden name.
But there was something strange and needy about him. “He was impressed easily by position, status, money,” she says. “He grew up poor and always wanted to be somebody, to make a difference, to prove himself, you know. He has to be historic to justify his life.”
She says she should have seen the red flags. “He asked me to marry him way too early. And he wasn’t divorced yet. I should have known there was a problem.”
Within weeks or months?
“Within weeks.”
That’s flattering.
She looks skeptical. “It’s not so much a compliment to me. It tells you a little bit about him.”
And he did the same thing to her eighteen years later, with Callista Bisek, the young congressional aide who became his third wife. “I know. I asked him. He’d already asked her to marry him before he asked me for a divorce. Before he even asked.”
He told you that?
“Yeah, he wanted to “
But she stops. “Hey, turn off the tape recorder for a second. This is going to go places ...”
Methinks the “lady” doest protest too much.
Swine shouldn’t complain about filth while they are wallowing in it.
She knew what Newt was and jumped into mud hole with him with both feet. And now she’s slinging dirtballs(for $$$ or vengeance)
Now tell me why we shall listen to her????
Objective of our mission is to defeat Obama. We therefore must elect a true conservative with bold leadership to give our country back to the people. There is no viable path for me. I am therefore suspending my campaign and endorsing Newt Gingrich. He is not perfect, but who among us is? The fact is..there is forgiveness for those who seek God. I am making a strategic retreat. I head home with the love of my life by my side. A woman who makes every day good and she has been an incredible patriot throughout this process.
- Rick Perry
Well said. The same "conservatives" here who get on their moral high-horse whenever most politicians get caught with feet of clay will excuse Gingrich. Yet Gingrich is the worst candidate we have running precisely for the reasons you say. Politically, although he's generally conservative, he's all over the place on many issues. There's a real lack of character in this man, as much as I mostly agree with his politics.
Aside from that, I can't see how Gingrich wins the election if he gets the nomination. Not only has he made a lot of enemies in his own party, but moderates and independents will turn away from him in droves. There's a snooty lecturing quality to the way Gingrich speaks that, after awhile, is very grating. Obama is likely to win in a landslide. From my perspective, once again the Right is throwing an election.
Newts got a big problem.
Its a shame that Obamas college boys are keeping silent and that Larry Sinclair has been ignored.
That is an amazing quote you have there. You've got to wonder if she isn't a bit off her rocker.
Of course, this is about ten times worse than Cain, because it’s an ex-wife, among other things.
And there are no mitigation strategies at all for Newt (or anyone speaking on behalf of Newt.)
He can’t ignore it. He can’t dismiss it. He can’t say she’s lying. He can’t say her memory is faulty. He can’t say the DNC is paying her. He can’t say Karl Rove is paying her. He can’t say she’s trying to get a book deal. All of those steps would actually make it worse.
I'm still waiting for Frankencandidate to come along. Pardon the language but this primary pool sucks.
