InsiderAdvantage Poll: Gingrich Now Leads Romney in S. Carolina Newt 32 Mitt 29 Santorum 11 Perry 3

An InsiderAdvantage poll conducted Wednesday night has former House Speaker Newt Gingrich now leading the Republican primary race in South Carolina.

The poll of likely Republican primary voters has Gingrich with 32 percent, ahead of Mitt Romney who trailed close behind at 29 percent.

The results are a significant reversal for Romney, who had led polls before Tuesday's Fox News debate. A poll conducted by InsiderAdvantage last Sunday showed Romney with a double-digit lead over Gingrich.

The InsiderAdvantage poll is the first major South Carolina survey after the debate. Gingrich has been crediting with winning the debate.

The poll found that support for Ron Paul and Rick Santorum is faltering, with both pulling 15 and 11 percent, respectively.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry finished last with just 3 percent of the vote. Three percent of those polled selected "other candidate" and 7 percent said they had no opinion.

The survey polled 718 registered Republican voters.

I just look at the Resumes, and I choose Newt, for this year, but I like Perry now that he is feeling better. I’d consider him, if he ran again.

"Newt has rolled them already, multiple times, and Newt knows where all the bodies are buried in DC."

Bump that.

Where did all these former posters and insiders from the old days go?

women didnt seem to care about Cinton’s promsicuous past compared to Bush41 who was married to the same woman. Or Dole who I think was on his 2nd wife but here was no allegation of infidelity or anything.

greeneyes, Gov. Perry is very likeable. But even when I supported Sarah, then Cain- I always felt that Newt would be the best person to “redirect” the country in 2013. He did it in 1994. I just didn’t think he’d ever get this far. But, now that he has, I’m all in for him.

The same was said about Huntsman in New Hampshire... and look who he endorsed.

Santorum and Huckabee are very similar on their views and what they campaigned on in their respective elections... and Huckabee has already endorsed Romney.

And considering that their views are so similar, I’d hazard that Santorum will come to the same conclusion as Huckabee when the time comes. For it’s in his nature.

And the Santorum fans will again be disappointed.

I don’t get it. He is the MOST experienced guy period, and the most experienced with fighting the current administration.

What's not to 'get'? Perry has been a piss poor salesman, and has failed to close the deal with the voters throughout the campaign. His supporters have done a far better job of selling him, than he's done selling himself.

Not to knock the guy, but since I've been watching him, I've never seen him take down any serious opponent in a race. I voted for him twice, and each time, he was running against others who were so odious, that even I could have beaten them.

'Nuff said on all that. I'm not trying to rub in your disappointment. I like the Governor, but I'd rather see him back here at home, doing what he can to address the issues that are hurting Texans.

I made a promise and I’ll keep my promise.

If Sarah Palin can drag for as long as she did McCain, then I can do the same for Newt.

As for sour grapes - I’ve said that from day one. You can go look it up.

"Not to mention probably 97% of Newt’s supporters knew this would eventually get ugly, and got behind him because taking down zero is the goal here."

IMHO it's more to keep folks from jumping ship to Newt.

Yeah, but Clinton’s promiscuous past was not verified until AFTER he won re-election. The whole Lewinski scandal blew up after Clinton was sworn back into office.
Before that there were unconfirmed rumors of possible infidelity that he and Hillary adamantly denied. (Yes, she stood by her man.)

Unlike Gingrich, Dole only had two wives - neither of which he cheated on. But Dole lost big in the general election.

But like I said, who really thinks we need moderate women voters to win in the general election anyway??

I don’t think so. Folks said the same about Cain, and he hasn’t endorsed Romney either.

“He is still by far the most appealing candidate in the race, but the establishment, both RINO and conservative simply won’t have it.”

I like a lot about Perry, but I can’t get past his immigration stuff...

So, if Newt wins this and then loses to Obama, do we all have to deal with Romney running again in 2016 or is this it for him?

This is great news for Newt Gingrich. If he is perceived as the frontrunner it will make more Santorum and Perry supporters vote for him in the primary.

Speaking about his bitter ex-wife. He always treated her good. There are stories on the internet about their marriage. They were basically separated for 6 years leading up to the divorce, didn’t live together. She worked with Newt on the campaign trail. But he met his current wife, and filed for a divorce. It hurt this Marianne gal, but life is not a bed of roses and life goes on. Newt never abused her in any way, but she loved being married to a powerful congressman. She needs to let it go. Hopefully any voters that watch her hit piece on him will realize that she’s just being a hard ass because she’s no longer married to him. I don’t think it amounts to much. She needs to let it go. I guarantee you he’s still paying her alimony.

If Newt handles it well and wins the debate he’ll win SC and be the nominee. If not, Romney will win SC and be the nominee.

Given that Newt is the undisputed master of jaw-jitsu, I'm comfortable with that "if". Mitt doesn't stand a chance.

Everyone knew about Clinton’s promiscuity in 92 and in 96. Maybe not the speifics on Monica. But everyone knew he was a hound dog. And Clinton would have beaten W in 2000 even after the Monica stuff came out if he could have gone for a 3rd term.

I agree with you in general. I think if the economy is bad enough it won’t matter, though. Just as it didn’t in 92. Clinton wouldn’t have won with a good economy.

Santorum endorsing Romney would not raise my eyebrows, I half expect it, though his reasoning may be entertaining.

My point is that it will not help Romney, just as Huntsman's endorsement did not, because Santorum's supporters by definitiion reject Romney at face value.
