An InsiderAdvantage poll conducted Wednesday night has former House Speaker Newt Gingrich now leading the Republican primary race in South Carolina.
The poll of likely Republican primary voters has Gingrich with 32 percent, ahead of Mitt Romney who trailed close behind at 29 percent.
The results are a significant reversal for Romney, who had led polls before Tuesday's Fox News debate. A poll conducted by InsiderAdvantage last Sunday showed Romney with a double-digit lead over Gingrich.
The InsiderAdvantage poll is the first major South Carolina survey after the debate. Gingrich has been crediting with winning the debate.
The poll found that support for Ron Paul and Rick Santorum is faltering, with both pulling 15 and 11 percent, respectively.
Texas Gov. Rick Perry finished last with just 3 percent of the vote. Three percent of those polled selected "other candidate" and 7 percent said they had no opinion.
The survey polled 718 registered Republican voters.

imagine the polling was concluded before a) Sarah Palin said shed vote for Newt and b) Marianne Gingrichs story was leaked. The change has everything to do with Newts performance in Monday nights debate.
***************
I think you’re right on, Ed- at least, there was an inkling where the polls were going.
Sarah endorsed because of the polling- she didn’t want to lose her credibility backing a loser 20 points down- and Romney Establishment forces reacted to the new numbers-—
That’s why we call this LAST MAN STANDING. Real men don’t drop out, they get dragged down.
May we at least wait for the vote?
So is the McCain file dump.
The polls only today caught up with the virtuoso performance and rousing vocal and standing ovation by Newt Gingrich in the debate Monday night. These polls have NOT yet had time to catch up with any measurement of Sarah Palin’s tepid remark expressing favor for Newt in only one state, South Carolina, just to keep the “vet” going. Likewise it will be at the ballot box on Saturday where the POLL of ALL POLLS will catch up with the breaking news tonight delivered up by Marianne the Vicious.
A Palin endorsement would do him no good and possibly hurt Newt in national polls, with many Republicans and most Independents who do not share the FR enthrallment with Sarah Palin. She knows that by now, and respects Newt enough to keep her mouth shut and to go with only “tepid” favor for him in but one single state.
Decent polls are three days rolling in order to capture the day to day in their entirety. This why the timing of this by Newt’s enemies is superb. The October Surprise is a Wednesday Surprise prior to the Saturday election. Time to get it distributed and NO time to counter forcefully before Saturday. The polls will be affected some, but could also backfire and actually stabilize again.

I guess he is just to much of an “outsider”
Every candidate, and I mean every single one, who comes out seeking the "evangelical vote" knows they can lock up the 10% or 15% of voters with lowest, rock-bottom IQ just by saying a few magic words.
And not a single one of those candidates seeking the "evangelical vote" can clearly articulate any Constitutional conservative principles.
That would be the dump of McCain's file on Romney.
I knew some of this stuff was coming out and tried to warn those idiots over there to take their profits over the last 2 days, but they refused to listen.
I bet they had listened now :P
Yes. Perry is really the only one the Dems should be afraid to face in the general. He makes Obama look like a scared schoolboy.
At this point, I would say that it is reasonable to ask Perry and Santorum to drop out and endorse whomever they are going to endorse (I suspect that will be Newt).
****************
C-7, I think Perry’s a class act- I can see him dropping and backing Newt for the sake of conservatives.
Rick S, I think, is a little peeved that Newt said he should drop out- and he said that Newt was arrogant. Now, like myself, he has Italian blood- so he gets a little heated some time. -:) So, I don’t see him dropping in SC.
I could be wrong, but I think the base seriesly dislikes Romney. All your base are belong to us!!LOL... Now there is a blast from the past.
"It Could Happen!"
GOOD FOR YOU!
GO NEWT!
Don't forget to vote on Saturday!
Oh please Lord, let it be so!
I am not counting Axlerod out here. This is right down is line of expertise, and he has the strings to the ABC pals & liberal media. He can let Romney take the heat for this while at the same time taking out Romney’s threat, Newt. They WANT TO RUN AGAINST ROMNEY. Not Newt. Newt has rolled them already, multiple times, and Newt knows where all the bodies are buried in DC.
Agreed. One is sinking, and the other is already sunk. Get those passengers over to the USS Newt as quickly as possible.

Maybe you should think about that.
