I’m guessing the Iranians stuck in those subs are going to get an unpleasant surprise when it comes to modern anti-sub capabilities.
Maybe some of their subs will find the same end as some of their nuke physicists.
Iran’s leadership isn’t going to be happy, until it has had it’s ass beaten to a pulp. I’m thinking more sooner than later too.
If we wait until it has nukes, it will be able to blackmail all of it’s neighbors. Is that really something we are prepared to allow to take place?
Don’t tell me what Obama wants, because we all know what that nine year old wants.
If you think Iran’s subs are “stealthy” now, just wait and see how difficult they are to find when they’re in a thousand pieces!
I see Baghdad Bob has a new client.
Kamikazes didn’t work for the Japanese in the 1940’s, but some people never get the word.
They sure could,,and i could wait outside the Hells Angels favorite bar and shoot the biggest one from ambush on the parking lot. (afterwards loudly telling everyone just how i did it!)
I suspect my life would get -very- exciting afterwards.
So, how will the IRGC-N deal with the SSB-Ns that are 5000 Nmi away?
Hey, Ahmed: its not just the “coatings” on your sub, its how much noise they make.
First off, I know nothing about under-water warfare, I have no information other than layman’s information on remote sensing.
But, if I were in that area, there are some key points I would focus on. First off, Submarines are made out of metal, random rocks on the bottom of the sea are not.
Metal has properties that granite, limestone and other assorted rocks do not. I’d wager that if one was interested in finding a couple hundred thousand pounds of refined metal, there are ways of doing that.
"most advanced" is a very, very relative term.
The Kilos are coated, but old...and the Iranians are probably caoting them with something as similar as they can manufacture on these 500 ton mini-subs.
But it will be to no avail. I have no doubts that we constantly, through multiple avenues, keep track of every Iranian sub.
This President will not do it, bit we need a CIC who would have all their Kilos and the two or three modern mini-subs they have all just blow up on the same day.
The indicate we don’t know what happened, and have Israel say the same. Talk about how difficult and dangerous sub technology is...we’ve lost a few ourselves so it is not out of the ordinary. Difficult technologies sort of like their nuclear program is difificult and also may be prone to such “accidents.”
This reminds me of the Libyan line of death and a Libyan submarine that radioed the beach to say they were diving, waited 20 minutes or so on the surface, and then reported they had resurfaced - all watched and heard by our navy air folks. They were too scared to submerge for fear of never coming back up.
That being said let them sit in their shallow pond while our P-3s locate them with MAD gear and then drop sonobouys all around to ping the living crap out of em - then see if they stick around to light anything off. hmph - plus being diesel they’ll have to surface periodically for crew air.
I will give them that at 500 tons it’s a fairly small boat and harder to ‘see’. Ours tend to be 6000 tons or better as I recall.
I have co-workers who worked in interdiction in conjunction with the USN years ago. The detection technology onboard modern US Navy submarines sounds like far-fetched sci-fi, but is quite real. Not only can they hear small craft and subs, but they can identify specific vessels by sound characteristics.
It’s likely that if Iran has any subs in the area, the USN already knows where, what kind and how many - and has its own subs shadowing.
Is there a submarine ping list? If so, why aren’t I on it? If not why not? There’s enough bubbleheads running around here to man a squadron.
....just tune the sonar to islamic chanting 5 times a day....(times listed in local newspaper).....fire /depthcharge at sound....end of problem.
