President Obama will accept his party's presidential nomination in a big outdoor speech that happens to coincide with another event: the middle of Atlantic hurricane season.

The DNC's convention team announced Tuesday that the President will speak Sept. 6 at Bank of America stadium — a massive outdoor venue that is also home to the Carolina Panthers.

That's a risky weather choice, according to Doug Outlaw, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service's Greenville/Spartanburg office. He noted that four days later -- Sept. 10 -- is the official middle of the hurricane season.

"As far as rain that time of year, it's possible to get a thunderstorm," Outlaw said.

If there's tropical storm activity turning off the Gulf Coast to the northeast, then there will likely be rain in the Carolinas, he added.

And temperatures could easily range from crisp to scorching.

"The beginning of September - there's great variations in temperature," Weather Channel meteorologist Mark Ressler said. "84 is the average. But temperatures have ranged from as low as 58 to as high as 104."
