Actor Gene Hackman, 81, was airlifted to the Ryder Trauma Center in Miami on Friday after a car struck the bicycle he was riding in Islamorada, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Hackman was heading southbound near the 88 mile marker on the Old Highway around 3 p.m. when struck from behind by the right front fender of a 2007 Toyota Tundra driven by Kathryn Rodriguez, 60, or Islamorada, FHP Sergeant Thomas E. Pikul said.

How do you know this person was just "toolin' around town" in a truck? Maybe that person needs a truck for their business or lifestyle. What do you care what any other person drives anyway?
Are you one of those who wants to see Americans forced out of their trucks and SUVs, and into government approved econo boxes?
Sheeesh.....
First movie I remember him in was “Bonnie and Clyde”. Loved “Hoosiers” but my favorite was “Bite the Bullet”.
“The Conversation” is my fave.
Light trucks and SUVs are not off-road vehicles. It takes a fair amount of investment to make them suitable for that purpose.
I'm a contractor with four kids and a wife. I drive a truck for business, and we have an SUV that fits a family of six (and all of our stuff).
People like me have a real need for these vehicles, but even if I weren't a contractor, and didn't have four kids at home, we might still drive the same vehicles because we like them, and we still have the choice to do so.
Gene Hackman is a wonderful, often overlooked actor.
Was glad to read your update. Thanks.
Oh, you want to tell me what to drive and how much gas I should use? Well I think I’ll tell you that you shouldn’t be posting here, this is a board for conservatives who value their freedoms and that includes driving whatever vehicle they choose.
It’s going to take a much larger vehicle than a truck running over him to kill Mr. Hackman. It may take a tank.
I swear, there is so many ignorant assholes on the main forum you can’t even have a decent conversation anymore. Hope someone can go get your ride for ya!
Why? The Toyota Tundra is a pickup truck.
Mr. Mercat is pushing 70 and rides all winter long here in Kansas. Summer he does at least one long cross the state ride. Nice legs for an old guy and a great butt.
Pack it in. Around here we value our individual liberties to buy and own what we want to buy and own. You're on the wrong damned website - go try a liberal site, you'll obviously be more welcome there.
Other poster actually posted a sequoia, tundra frame but SUV style, I have owned both, good vehicles, and good for many things on the road too, not just off
Can’t Hackman afford a Mercedes?
The Conversation and Bite the Bullet were his best, but never saw a bad role Hickman did.
Look up TUNDRA... its a pickup. You pic is a Sequoia.
I live in Florida and own 2 Tundra’s. One has 420,000 miles on it. I don’t get what you are talking about. By the way it is not an SUV but rather a pick up truck.
Huh? I've only ever heard it pronounced "ees-lah-more-ah-dah.
This all-new, Toyota Tundra-based full-size sport-ute will go onsale in late 2000. Sequoia shares the Tundra's platform and 240-horsepower 4.7-liter V-8 engine. The Sequoia and Tundra will be built alongside each other in Indiana.
