Too early to know if he's going to be first or second in Iowa, but either way he deserves our congratulations!! He gives us hope that a decent, consistent, pro-life, pro-family, Christian conservative patriot can win this primary race and then go on to defeat Obama! Congratulations also to Newt Gingrich, Rick Perry and Michele Bachmann. You have all fought a great battle to this point.
We can be encouraged that over 50% of the Iowa electorate have totally rejected both the flip-flopping abortionist/socialist Mitt Romney and the deranged Ron Paul.
Will be interesting to see if this trend continues on through New Hampshire, South Carolina and Florida. I think by then we'll be able to clearly identify which pro-life conservative we should coalesce behind to defeat Romney!
Good luck in the race ahead. May the very best pro-life, pro-family, small government, big defense conservative be our candidate! Will be wonderful to have a candidate we can enthusiastically support for a change.
Game on!!
I don’t know how to post it on FB or I would. Awesome pic.
Nice Tim Tebow styled-come from behind win for Rick!
It goes to show one thing. It doesn’t matter who Romney destroys with negative campaigning. The voters will always look for someone other than Mitt Romney. When Perry jumped in, he was in the lead. Then Romeny went after him. When Perry went down, Herman Cain rose up. Then Romney went after Herman and destroyed him. Then Hermans support went to Newt. New rose to the top. Then Romney went after Newt with a meat ax. The Newt’s support crashed and guess what His support went to Santorum. Santorums rise was so fast and unexpected, Romney was stunned tonight.
I’m not sure if Santorum has enough time to build on this momentum in NH and SC. I expect Newt to come back to life in SC and FL and put Romney back in his place.
I still want Newt to be the nominee, but I’ll gladly take Santorum too.
Rick gave an absolutely beautiful, poignant speech tonight... no notes, no teleprompter.
I’m pleased with the result. The electorate rejected a kook. And now there is a viable conservative in the race. He polls only 4% nationally but that should change after IA.
Mittens despite having years to prepare, a ground organization second to none, could only manage a tie. This is a defeat for him.
I’m convinced on balance Santorum is a good candidate with solid conservative values and no skeletons in his closet.
He’s electable and the only anti-Romney candidate who is viable. The rest have baggage that make them unelectable.
I would have liked a more definite result but this a good outcome for the rest of Election 2012.
Game on!
Shultz, O'Donnell and Sharpton all gave Santorum high marks for his speech tonight.
Pebbles is now grounded with no tv or iPad for a week.
Same here. Gingrich’s views have changed too much for me to support him.
Santorum hasn’t.I think he will gain conservative support. And I think he can beat Obama.
Rick Santorum gave a nice speech tonight. I could definitely support him for president. He’s a man of good character. My only concern would be his management and leadership skills to run an administration bent on reforming government. If he can nail that, he’d make a fine president.
LOL I just noticed that Perry took a couple counties, even though he finished behind Newt overall. Amusing anomaly. Same thing happened 4 years ago. McCain was 4th but won no counties. Paul was 5th and carried 1 county. And in Florida Julie Annie was 3rd but carried no counties and 4th place Huckabee carried 4.
If Santorum holds on to take 1st he should thank Lyon county in the NW corner of the state where he won 61% (the only county where anyone took a majority of the vote) of the vote and Romney in appears came in 5th.
Despite all Perry’s money I think Newt still has a (weak) case to be made because he’s still around in the national polls whereas Perry’s support is non existent.
I think both of them (and MB who I love but it’s over for her) should quit. Perry might, Newt won’t. Sounds like he’s gonna be attacking Romney and not Santorum though.
Newt is still my first choice, but I’m OK with RS.
I can’t support a racist and a bigot like Paul and libertarianism is just abhorrent.
Mittens is unprincipled and a flip-flopper. He’s slick. He will not get my vote.
Santorum is sane, mainstream and represents my kind of values. We need a government that respects us and keeps our country safe. That is what he would do as President.
10-4.
I think that describes the GOP elite or the GOP establishment, whatever you want to call them. It's too bad the GOP leadership didn't embrace the winning ways of Ronald Reagan.
Well, Newt's fans were out in droves tonight to scream bloody hell about Santorum on the live Iowa caucus results thread. I had flashbacks to the 2004 Dean scream when Newt's distant 4th place finish resulted in them wailing "SANTORUMMMMMMMM RAISEDDDDDDDD THE DEBTTTTTTTTTT CEILINGGGGGG EIGHTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT TIMESSSSSSSSSS!!!!! TRAITORRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!"
The really cute part is roughly 80% of the bad Santorum decisions they scream at the top of their lugs about is also applicable to their guy Newt. Apparently its only bad to endorse RINOs and take pork if your name is Rick. ;-)
Just heard Rove reporting on Fox that he’s heard it’s not just 2 precincts not reporting. Allegedly there are 2 precincts in Story county that entered their votes wrong and had undercut Romney. So if it holds that the last precinct to report is a Romney precinct then it sounds like Rick will take second.
That all sounds okie doke to me because Iowa’s track record for picking the eventual nominee isn’t so good.
I could easily get behind Rick Santorum. Very easily.
Thanks Jim for the post. Rick is a good man and always answered every letter I sent as Senator. What KDKA did to him is one of those most detestable things one can remember in life. It is a memory that I will remember with the deepest contempt. That is why I call the media the occupation media. BTTT for a good Senator and a welcome Presidential Candidate.
