Live thread to cover today's GOP caucus. News, predictions, opinions, totals, and the like.
Will be heading out about 4 pm or so to get our site ready and do a final review with the precinct chairs. I expect it to be bigger than 2008 with very heavy turnout and we are preparing for that.
We are also ready for disruptions. They simply won't be tolerated. The state party sent us a memo saying if there's any trouble call the cops immediately. Anyone trying to cause problems is going to get a rude awakening.
My predictions of the outcome are a narrow field with about a 10 point spread for the top five with Bachmann far behind in single digits:
Santorum - 24 Romney - 22 Paul - 20 Perry - 17 Gingrich - 14 Bachmann - 4 The Rest - 1
Think things are still in flux and many won't decide till right to the wire, so I'm not terribly confident of any predictions.
The Santorum Surge, baby! Book it!
Whatever, Ben
I’ve been hearing this every election season for as long as I have been alive. It hasn’t been true once. Rick Santuckabee is simply 2012’s Mike Huckatorum.
No matter how many times we play this movie, it always end the same way.
You think we lost in 2008 because McCain was "too far right"?
lol
Newt is as much a Georgian as GHWB was a Texan. He was born and raised in Harrisburg, Pennsylania until he went to college. Just sayin’.
Gingrich / Santorum....
Wrap up the Catholic vote for sure, i.e. "The Macomb County Democrats" that gave Reagan Michigan. That would have legs in PA, OH, MI, and WI IMHO...
1992 - GHWB
1996 - Bob Dole
2008 - John McCain.
Yep, conservativism never loses.
“Newt can take South Carolina. He KNOWS South Carolina. Do you realize that like 67% of the hawkeye cauci ballots were not for Romney? Shocked he has what he does, but his ceiling is in the basement in reality.”
Exactly. SC is Georgia East, NEWT COUNTRY! : )
With Newts crushing lose tonight his coffers will dry up fast. He is probably done. He does not have the cash needed to pull through a lose like this.
This is good for the Republican party. Time to rally behind a real conservative like rick santorum. He is not my first pick overall but he will do. The other candidates are just establishment types, progressives and a socialist.
Perry may get locked out of the SC debate...

And we are losing states which used to be red, then purple.
Which explains the 2010 elections including downstate races, Michigan going solid red and the WI judicial elections.
1992 was when Bush Sr. gave up on campaigning; the harshest he could muster against Clinton was the tepid "Wouldn't be...prudent."
1996 was Bob Dole's turn.
2008 was when the Romney moles in McCain's campaign sabotaged Sarah, and McCain said in public of Obama, "Don't be afraid to have this man as your President."
Sniff, sniff;
Santorum-Newt.
Now would be WAY too early to endorse anyone. If she did it would be a huge mistake. Iowa doesnt mean much. McCain lost Iowa and look what happened..it means nothing..what I would do is wait a few primaries and see who has the best chance at winning THEN endorse
McCain was ahead in the polls until the economic disaster hit
Thank you both for the correction on the birthplace of each gentleman.:)
I guess I was thinking more of where they ran for office.
“The Santorum Surge”...love it!
Newt has more cash now than McCain did in 2008— He’ll win SC and Fla.
