Live thread to cover today's GOP caucus. News, predictions, opinions, totals, and the like.
Will be heading out about 4 pm or so to get our site ready and do a final review with the precinct chairs. I expect it to be bigger than 2008 with very heavy turnout and we are preparing for that.
We are also ready for disruptions. They simply won't be tolerated. The state party sent us a memo saying if there's any trouble call the cops immediately. Anyone trying to cause problems is going to get a rude awakening.
My predictions of the outcome are a narrow field with about a 10 point spread for the top five with Bachmann far behind in single digits:
Santorum - 24 Romney - 22 Paul - 20 Perry - 17 Gingrich - 14 Bachmann - 4 The Rest - 1
Think things are still in flux and many won't decide till right to the wire, so I'm not terribly confident of any predictions.
On the other hand, Santorum has been articulate, Conservative and intelligent during this campaign. Now, that could change and I'm sure the media will set their sites on him in the days to come, but also with his new surge will come much more camera time in the upcoming debates. In other words, if he is as good a campaigner as he claims to be, he has a chance.
Why will the South back Newt? He’s from Pennsylvania.
Do they have more serial adulterers down south?
Yeah...just saw her. I love her, but what’s up with that hair? Is she trying out for Jersey Shore next summer? Snooki’s hairdo...sheesh!
Sarah really needs to come out and endorse Newt before SC. He would wrap the nomination up after SC and FL if she did.
“Perry never had his heart in the race to begin with as his interviews for the job attested to early on. he wasnt prepared and he isnt now either.... He loves being Gov. of Texas and hell be delighted to get back to it very soon...thats where his heart is.”
That’s all so true.
Sounds to me like Sarah Palin likes Newt too.
They hate Santorum because he is 100% pro-life. A young pregnant woman decided against an abortion after channel surfing one night in 1998 and hearing him speak these words before an almost empty Senate chamber in defense of the unborn:

Google “Santorum CSPAN miracle” for the story.
Last post before Dec. 2011 was Feb.2005.
Springing up posts like mushrooms for Ron Paul Tonight.
(Springs out of way of ozone-laced Purina delivered at relativistic speed).
Cheers!
I simply don’t have any faith in Santorum. He is a go along to get along politician — the Spector endorsement proved that. He comes across as a too eager boy scout who can’t quite make the grade.
Between this and Colmes BS yeaterday, they must need to hire new/more operators.
Liberal job creation.
Palin noted positive points about each candidate, not just Newt. I look for her to ultimately endorse Santorum if he remains this strong, based on social conservatism and values. She also said she was proud of Bachmann but clarified that she just doesn’t see how Bachmann goes forward unless she wants to spend personal money. And I agree, no one every quits running for President, they just run out of money.
NEWT is my man...Perry next. Newt is on cspan NOW...I just love his brilliance and know he would turn this country around. He is ON tonight
FOX News is lying and pimping for Romney 24/7.
+++++++++++
Thanks for the report. We need someone monitoring Faux News.
You’re the one. The rest of us? Well, we’re boycotting the Bash-Newt, Nominate-Romney and Elect-Obama Network.
As well Gov. Palin should. He is the only one praising her- and offering a job of Secretary of Energy. The rest shun her.
I think she steps up in SC - and if she starts campaigning for Newt-, it’s Katie bar the door. -:)
Go Santorum!!!!
Go Santorum!!!!
Sorry for that ma’am. :)
Yes, it will be a long and difficult road, but the first steps have been taken. For that we should be thankful.
Actually:
Winneshiek County
Gingrich 104 27%
Romney 93 25%
Paul 88 23%
Santorum 67 18%
Perry 21 6%
Bachmann 8 3%
Huntsman 5 2%
No Preference 1 <1%
Other - -
Your right Santorum is leading now.
He flatlines in his delivery.....needs a dose or two of self-confidence on the campaign trail and a little more excitement wouldn't hurt him either.
I could vote for him quite easily...if my guy falters down the road....He'd be my second choice....but I would have concerns how he'd stand in a debate with Obama....when he interviews with journalists etc. they can get him off guard too easily....he's too polite and they run over him for that rather than stand his ground which he'll have to do up against Obama.
