New Polls Confirm Santorum Surge in Iowa; Newt Gingrich, Rick Perry Fading
The Other McCain ^ | 12/30/11

Posted on 12/30/2011 12:10:17 PM PST by Antoninus

One poll is getting the big headlines this morning:

NBC poll: Mitt Romney, Ron Paul neck-and-neck in Iowa; Newt Gingrich in 5th

The numbers from that poll, conducted Tuesday and Wednesday:

Romney 23% Paul 21% Santorum 15% Perry 14% Gingrich 13% Bachmann 6%

Similar numbers from a Rasmussen poll conducted Wednesday:

Romney 23% Paul 22% Santorum 16% Gingrich 13% Perry 13% Bachmann 5%

Thesed results have been enough to move Santorum to third place in the Real Clear Politics average of Iowa polls, but there’s yet another poll — conducted Thursday by We Are America — which shows Santorum now in second place:

Romney 24% Santorum 17% Paul 14% Gingrich 13% Bachmann 12% Perry 10%

All three of these polls, then, show the former front-runners Gingrich and Perry now fighting for fourth place.

Erick Erickson is frothing at the mouth and chewing the carpet.

Also, there is a graveyard, and Ace is whistling past it.

Thanks to Anthony Massa for the Twitter tip on that third poll.

It's looking more and more like Santorum is the guy to take out Romney. If you haven't sent him any $$ yet, now would be a good time.

Santorum - more conservative than Romney.
Santorum - better record of accomplishment than Bachmann.
Santorum - better debate skills than Perry.
Santorum - less baggage than Newt.
Santorum - not a kooky anti-Israel conspiracy theorist like Ron Paul.

That about sums it up - he is the only one who makes any sense in this race for us to support. I donated yesterday.

Has there ever been another race where each candidate at one point or other was either the front-runner or breathing hot and heavy on the heels of the front-runner? This is really amazing. Bachman - Romney - Perry - Cain - Gingrich - Paul - Santorum? Has this happened before? It appears only Huntsman has been left out because even before things got hot and heavy and the race began there was also Trump and ofcourse Palin before she decided not to run. It is as if EVERYONE had to hold the brass ring. Does anyone know if this has happened before?

Hey, I like Newt and I'd vote for him. But all signs are point to his support evaporating and Santorum's surging at just the right minute.

Those of us who have kept our powder dry are ready to strike now. I'm content to rally around the strongest Republican who is not named Mitt Romney. If that turns out to be Rick Santorum, then so be it. He's run a very effective campaign so far.

The Liberal News-Media (now joined by their The Usual E-RINO Suspects) will suffer an "epic fail" ...

as they DESPERATELY try to force a "faux disqualification" for Newt Gingrich in the upcoming Iowa Caucus and New Hampshire Primary.

I'm confident that Newt Gingrich will "decimate" Mitt Romney and Dr. Winkie (Ron Paul) in South Carolina and Florida ...

How many successful POTUS candidates have ever won the Iowa Caucus ?

In the last thirty-two (32) years ... only ONE Democrat (Obama in 2008) and ONE Republican (Bush-43 in 2000) have won BOTH the Iowa Caucus and the Presidential Election ...

Of course, that doesn't include "sitting" Presidents (Reagan, Clinton) who won Iowas on their way to a second term election ...

That presents odds of TWO (2) Iowa Caucus wins out of SIXTEEN (16) possible Presidential Election Candidates !

Equivalent to a Whopping twelve-point-five (12.5) percent success rate ...

How many successful POTUS candidates have ever won the New Hampshire Primary ?

In the last thirty-two (32) years ... only ONE Democrat (Carter in 1976) and TWO Republicans (Reagan-1980 and Bush-41 in 1988) have won BOTH the New Hampshire Primary and the Presidential Election ...

Of course, that doesn't include "sitting" Presidents (Reagan, Clinton) who won New Hampshire on their way to a second term election ...

That presents odds of THREE (3) New Hampshire wins out of FIFTEEN (15) possible Presidential Election Candidates !

Equivalent to a Whopping thirteen-three-three (13.33) percent success rate ...

Santorum’s old school shoe leather campaigning in IA seems to be paying off. Donations already sent. I may send more tonight if I find some extra money in the seat cushions.

Here in the rust belt, Perry and Gingrich don't play as well as in the south and southwest. Santorum may not set the world on fire, but he also had no major gaffes in the debates. He also won two out of three elections in a rather blue state. Nothing much against Perry, I could live with either of 'em, but it is ridiculous for those who spent months at 5% (e.g. Gingrich supporters) to attack someone with a solid third place showing as second tier.

At this point, Santorum is the best bet in Iowa. If that doesn't translate in SC or FL, by all means, go with the leading "not-Romney" (Gingrich or Perry), and we can hammer it out at the convention.

Santorum is the last chance. He is an actual consistent conservative.
He does not have scandals. He is a good man. He is the opposite of amnesty newt. In marist IA poll he won the true conservative vote (23%). Newt was 6% in true conservative category.

Thank god the radical leftwing social engineer is history. Amnesty has to wait for another day!

It is Santorum or Romney. Bachmann and Newt should drop out.

Go Rick!

But...but...but.... Gingrich & Perry supporters have informed us that Santorum endorsed Specter! That's UNACCEPTABLE!! The fact ANY conservative endorses a RINO should AUTOMATICALLY rule him out...

(unless, of course, THEIR candidate endorsed a RINO!)

Gee Newt, our latest line of attack against Santorum doesn't seem to be resonating...can't figure out why...

Perry....We know he can gety the job done. And if he picks Rubio...

But Newt has been a great help in telling the American People what they have forgotten. We are a great country. (But we have a lot of rats).

“Santorum seems to be a good man, but he will never make it to the White House”

As opposed to Newt, who is not a nice man and will never make it to the White House.
