You are right. We should have coalesced around one, coherent conservative candidate with one coherent conservative message. Looking back that candidate has been Santorum.

I doubt that he can win anything at this point but I hope he shocks the world.

Unfortunately I have a different take. Assuming Romney will win NH, I think to deal him a series blow requires a hugh second place by someone else, making Willard #3. If Romney wins NH and is #2 in IA, he’ll be hard to stop.

Here’s the internals you referred to:

Another thing that should depress Paul’s numbers is the army out out-of-state your Paultards descending on Iowa, according to an article this morning in the NY Times. These guys will turn off a great many voters.

I don't understand why everyone is so excited about the Iowa Caucasus's. The Iowans have never gotten it right. Why do folks think they will this time?

The KEY word here is “Coherent”. That disqualifies Santorum and points to Gingrich. Santorum is a boring, mumbling, political moron.

There is a reason he was only polling around 5%. This last minute push is the result of a whole lot of very compulsive, or stupid people just like Santorum.

I’m a Gingrich supporter, like you. But Santorum’s my 2nd choice (or tied with Perry for #2.) I found him answers, particularly on foreign policy, to be very coherent & intelligent. I think what damaged him for a while was his constant whining about not getting time during the debates.

Get honest here, do you really believe Santorum has a chance to be elected president?

To me the key word is “conservative.”

Newt is “conservative.” He’d get my vote over Romney or Obama.

Santorum is conservative AND coherent, I think you mixed him up with Perry, the guy who unloads whole magazines into his feet.

He’s got my vote until he pulls out.

The link in the heading and in the article go to the 29 Dec poll. The link in comment #1 is to the poll of the 18th, apparently to support his comment “Santorum up, Paul, Perry down...” The polls don’t show change from previous, so you have to compare the two.

How many times was that asked of Clinton in 1991 or Obama in 2007?

If he can get the nomination, he has a chance. I think he has a chance to get the nomination - not a great chance, but he’s in a position where he could fill a void and make a run.

All of the candidates who have been frontrunners have serious flaws. Do you trust Newt to avoid stabbing us in the back and to avoid doing something stupid and getting impeached? (I don’t.) Do you really believe Romney, who ran to the left of Kennedy in ‘94, is now actually a pro-life conservative who will appoint judges who will follow the constitution? (I don’t.)

The biggest accusations I have seen against Santorum are that he mumbles sometimes. Have you heard Obama without the teleprompter? (OK, maybe not because the MSM won’t show it.) I would at least like to kick the tires and see what he has.

What’s the odds that this poll gets any play in the headlines today? It’s not as exciting as the CNN poll, and doesn’t support narratives that the media wants to drive.

I got on yahoo this morning and was reading some story when I saw side stories about "Gingrich taking nosedive, in 4th place, Romney in 1st, blah blah" and then looked at rcp and saw this poll, so those other polls they're headlining are old news. But that's typical of yahoo and other media outlets. Newt has just as good a chance as anybody. It's going to come down to who gets out there and votes. Even if Newt comes in second, I hope Romney's no higher than 3rd. I can't imagine Romney has dedicated support. Pray for a rain or snowstorm!

I was just trying to help out c-grt-grandma. I saw a few replies to her, but none that looked like they would help. You were more of a Cc on that, but we don’t have that option.

(Maybe I should suggest that to the big man - would a Cc field in addition to the To block be useful?)
