"A Gingrich campaign official prior to the move by the Republican Party of Virginia said the problem is how the rules are set up, arguing that the party is, for apparently the first time, cross-checking the addresses that signature-givers gave against the electronic voter database file for accuracies. A name without a proper address match was tossed, the official said."

Why don’t you just admit that you hate Newt and will take any opportunity to rip him.
Did it occur to you that 6 of 8 candidates were apparently also “incompetent?”
You’re a buffoon. You can have the last word. You aren’t worth any more of my time.
Hank
That’s the thing about Cain.
The issue with him was never the business end of the campaign. That is why they went after him as soon as he started passing Romney, because they knew once he had the money he had everything he needed.
If he had held out 3 more weeks, can you imagine how different the race would look now? I was screaming at Herman and telling him, no. Don’t let the thugs win. Hang on just a little longer and it will break, because they will lose hope in breaking you.
So, you think Mitt ROmney was running around preventing people from signing Newt Gingrich petitions?
It is apparently a hard process, but all Perry, Gingrich, Santorum, and Bachmann had to do was get 15,000 people who appeared to be registered voters to sign petitions, 600 in each of 11 districts.
They could have done this at the general election.
I don’t like the 15K ‘pass,’ either, but it was having well under the required 10K verifiable signatures that disqualified Perry and Gingrich. All the worse assuming their people knew that 15K would bypass the check.
Any candidate for any office knows to get half again as many signatures as are required. Perry and Gingrich just started their signature gathering too late.
Maybe we should demand the RPV cross-check all the Romney/Paul petitions and see if they can’t eliminate 7-10K signatures. Then we’d have no need for a primary at all!
Are you kidding? Newt is the one I’m pulling for. But I do know incompetence when I see it and all of em screwed the pooch big time.
“That said, one of the problems facing Newt (and Bachmann, and Cain before him) is that while he might have some wide appeal, its not deep or particularly committed. On the other hand, mittens has had years to prepare, raise funds, and get the gop-e in his back pocket. Ron Paul has a veritable army of dedicated supporters.”
Cain, until he quit, had the highest positives of any Republican candidate. This means that his supporters were actually the most committed to him. Romney’s been all over the map.
Because it was done by the REPUBLICAN party.
The ballot requirement bar was set too high period and the GOP political machine definitely is involved in setting it.
Question! But why?
Vindicated?
I was for conservative Palin, but Rove & Co. joined hands with the liberals to drive her out. I was for conservative Bachmann, but Rove & Co. drove her out. I was for conservative Cain, but Rove & Co joined with the liberals to drive him out. I couldve supported conservative Perry had he been able to overcome his foot in mouth affliction, but Im sure Rove & Co. wouldve driven him out too. I didnt like Gingrich because of his well known baggage, but after he rose to the top, found it curious and so looked deeper. Turns out that despite the baggage and some missteps and unlike Romney he actually is a pro-life Reaganite with a great record of actual conservative accomplishments and he is well liked by the conservative base and the tea partyers. Am just starting to warm up to him and now we get the familiar old RINO Rove & Co refrain. Well, hell no!! We are not going to allow Rove and the establishment elite ruling class drive away yet another leading conservative candidate!
Time to muscle up and fight the corrupt RINO bastards!!
They will not be allowed to keep Gingrich off the ballot!!
They will not be allowed to disenfranchise millions of conservative voters!!
Rebellion is brewing!!
Also, Hannity is an ignorant ass as he keeps having Rove on and treats him as a good guy.
If you don’t re-register, you can’t vote. Period. It’s the law. You register to vote and they send you the card. Then two years later they send you another card. If you’ve moved, it’s marked Do Not Forward, so it goes back and then the voter people know you moved too. I have HAD IT with people wanting to make excuses and get a pass when they don’t obey the law. Ignorance of the law is NO EXCUSE! Or else EVERY criminal would be claiming that they didn’t know their act was illegal, which is a point to which we are too close as it is.
(I don’t mean all of that to be directed at you, Onyx. Not really anybody on this site for that matter).
I want Newt and others to seriously contest that citizens cannot place any candidate with respectable credentials on a ballot for a vote. To me this shows Repub machinations can be as detrimental to free elections as done by Chicago politics.
I am curious to know when the VA GOP invented the 15K Safe Harbor rule. The letter from the VA GOP is undated (which is itself curious). The PDF file contains a hidden creation date of 12/21/2011.
I think a good question to ask right now is when was the last time VA ‘cleansed’ their voter rolls? Takes a tech guy to do that.
If somehow some tech snafu favors Ron Paul, you can pretty much bet some Ron Paul tech snafued it.
I’ve gotten to where I tell my candidates 3X what you need. Even 2X sometimes cuts it close if someone wants to be a jerkweed.
If you can’t run at that level you really shouldn’t be in the game.

Merry Christmas! Our savior is born!
No more politics till Monday for me.
There exists everywhere in the this country from my home state of PA to the state of VA the party organization.
The organization may make conservative noises and even call themselves “tea party” or “conservative” but ultimately they are “moderates.”
They have the ability with the signature bar on ballot access statewide plus the bar of so many signatures from so many congressional districts to keep other candidates out and their candidates in.
The candidate they want in for president is Romney.
I am curious to know when the VA GOP invented the 15K Safe Harbor rule. The letter from the VA GOP is undated (which is itself curious). The PDF file contains a hidden creation date of 12/21/2011. Thanks for finding and pointing out that the undated letter [shown in post#235] announcing the 15,000 Safe Harbor rule was created on 12/21/2011 (Wednesday). That is one day AFTER Romney's campaign manager in VA (the Lt. Governor) turned in 16,000. So they made up the last-minute rule that guaranteed Romney's (already filed) petitions would be accepted without testing, while knowing that the new extra scrutiny would certainly disqualify most other candidates! 3 didn’t even try to get petitions. “Only” 2 were disqualified.
