"A Gingrich campaign official prior to the move by the Republican Party of Virginia said the problem is how the rules are set up, arguing that the party is, for apparently the first time, cross-checking the addresses that signature-givers gave against the electronic voter database file for accuracies. A name without a proper address match was tossed, the official said."

And he just may. We shall see.
[I dont trust the guy(Romney) any more than I can throw him. ]
Well the guy spent his political career tricking Massachusetts democrats into voting for him..
and NOW he’s trying to trick republicans into doing the same..
He’s a con artist..
ROTFLMYRonPaulOFF.
I see no problem at all with Newt and RickP joining forces......LOL.
Time will tell.....
Merry Christmas....
I am just devastated. Heard on Fox News that VA rules do not allow a write in during primaries and that going to court wont matter either? the chosen one Romney is being crammed down our throats...just like when our mothers made us take a dose of bad medicine. I wont vote if it is Romney or Paul. RIGGED election’
Katie, don’t be devestated, and don’t believe everything you hear either. This is just a minor squirmish in a huge war that will take decades to win. We have just begun to fight. We will lose some battles and win some. It ain’t over till we give up.
From what I have investigated so far, her is my conclusion:
The way the law is written does NOT demand no write ins for primaries, it just allows their exclusion. In fact, it provides that write ins have to be accepted for elections. Going to court might work, if the rules are dienfranchising the majority of the voters.
No direct evidence, but isn’t it OB’s MO to eliminate opponents in the primary.
You too.
In many folks mind this is going to narrow the electable candidates down to Mitt and Paul.
Newt’s case was his electibility. Not getting on the ballot is a serious blow.
And theyll lose. The VA gop took the rule book and beat them to death with it. VA courts arent particularly receptive to these kinds of arguments.
Yes, and Americans aren't particularly tolerant of bureaucrats.
her=here
I think both Gingrich and Perry have to challenge.
I sure hope you’re right that Gingrich will dominate. I despise Romney, Rove and the GOP-E.
Merry CHRISTmas, CainConservative!!!
and NOW hes trying to trick republicans into doing the same..
Hes a con artist..”
LOL. A RepubliCON. Ha Ha.
You need to go to “Face Reality School.”
It has never been challenged until now and is very much in trouble. On several counts.
Exactly.
“If he only collected 20+ percent, then he has only himself to blame.”
Yes and no. Yes, he should have paid closer attention to details, but I don’t think that any candidate can reasonably anticipate every sort of curve ball that is going to be thrown at them.
And also, what is the compelling interest in making access to the VA ballot so restrictive? To save twenty dollars in programming costs? To save ten dollars worth of ink? No, it’s plainly to trip up candidates who don’t have the access or resources to navigate the ballot access requirements.
This appears to be a glitch in the computer system designed to validate the signatures, for all the candidates.
Mickey Mouse is free to petition for Scott Walkers recall ("Adolf Hitler" too).
Godspeed.
Come on “P”, we need your input here, as well as your legal action and expertise!
Didn't Virginia have in the previous election only the names of McCain and Huckabee on the primary ballot?
