Gingrich lead jumps to 16%

GOP frontrunner Newt Gingrich is garnering more support than ever in this presidential campaign season, with the first national public opinion poll after the Saturday night ABC News Republican candidates’ debate showing Gingrich with a 16% lead over his closest challenger, Mitt Romney.

The scientific Poll Position survey of registered voters who say they’ll vote in their state’s 2012 Republican primary or caucus produced these results: Gingrich 39%, Romney 23%, Ron Paul 11%, Michele Bachmann 6%, Rick Perry 5%, Rick Santorum 4%, Jon Huntsman 2%, someone else 2%, and undecided or no opinion at 9%.

A week ago, Poll Position’s GOP horse race poll found Gingrich at 37%, Romney at 23%, Paul at 7%, and Bachmann at 6%.

In the new survey conducted last night, the poll questioned 582 registered voters nationwide who said they’d vote in their state’s Republican primary or caucus.  The poll has a margin of error of +/- 4%.  The full crosstabs for the poll: Poll Position crosstabs – GOP horse race 12-11-11.

You wouldn’t consider helping Obama, would you?

Being an ally is not an unconditional relationship after the primary season ends.

I’m not voting for a RINO. Period.

You seem to have conveniently forgotten that the Tea Party does not belong to the GOP. It has members from every political affiliation filling its ranks. This is a bragging right we all share and endorse. It unifies us all as everyday Americans who put our country first before the aspirations of corrupt politicians.

The Tea Party is a grassroots movement that draws its strength from people believing in conservatism and the U.S. Constitution.

I don’t know any Tea Party member who would sell their soul to a RINO politician, like Newt. The entire concept of somebody from the Tea Party voting for somebody who is not conservative is irrational. It doesn’t equate.

The only thing I can think of is that there are RINOs trying to destroy the Tea Party’s influence and that there are faux-members who are using it for their own nefarious political gain, like Newt is trying to do.

Unfortunately for Newt, the Tea Party does not reflect who he is. We are better than Newt.

I ask you the same thing because you are supporting a RINO candidate who will lose to Obama.

The Tea Party won in November of 2010 because it voted for conservatives, not RINOs.

Did you forget that, too?

“Paul cannot actually get elected, plus he has tried many times before and gotten no where.”

If you believe that, then you have nothing to worry about.

I happen to disagree. Every election has it’s own dynamic and I think this one is gonna be a deusy.

I believe that Ron Paul is ultimately going to run as a third party candidate, and that he’ll get a healthy chunk of the vote.

I don’t think he’ll win the general election, but then again, Ross Perot was actually in the lead before he had his straightjacket moment.

Time will tell.

According to what I read here on FR, Newt has lots of support from Tea Partiers.

If Gingrich is the nominee, anyone refusing to support him over Obama is trying to hand the election to Obama.

It's astonishing that anyone would ever have to point this out.

If you're fine with handing the election to Obama, you're fine with more SCOTUS justices along the lines of Sotomayor and Kagen, and you're fine with Obamacare, and you're fine with an anti-American foreign policy, and you're fine with no expansion of drilling in the U.S., and you're fine with a union-supporting Justice Department, and you're fine with another Great Depression. That's what we'll get if Obama is re-elected.

With Newt, everything turns around within three years.

It's time for the sincere anti-Republicans on this board to get their heads out of their asses. The duplicitous ones can kiss mine.

You must be for Newt’s green energy, too.

All your arguments are nothing more than recycled 2008 campaign rhetoric that was typically used by RINOs as scare tactics.

(I’ve already addressed the SCOTUS issue in a prior comment.)

All your arguments are the same anti-Republican bullshit I've read here since 1998.

Well, many Freepers made the same arguments as me against RINOs back in 2008, but many of you didn’t listen, and because of this, McCain lost and Obama won.

I think it’s about time you put away your stubborn pride, and fight for conservatism, instead of sacrificing it every election cycle because you wimp out thinking that the liberal morons’ candidates are better than conservative ones.

Conservatism is a way of life. Conservatism is not an opportunistic mindset that you can join whenever you feel like it.

Gingrich isn't a RINO.

Jim Robinson doesn't suffer RINOs gladly.

We all know that Jim doesn’t like RINOs.

I don’t like RINOs, either.

What about you?

I don't like RINOs. But you've missed the point. Read and learn, n00b:

Newt wants to streamline and cut government spending as well. Cut budgets, cut unnecessary and wasteful programs, even entitlements. Use the tenth amendment to return functions like medicare to the states and the people. Privatize social security for the younger generations. Return education to the states and localities. Reduce healthcare costs by making insurance portable across state lines, tort reform, returning the functions to the states and people where they can control costs for covering the poor locally. Make health insurance tax deductible and privatize and encourage private health accounts, etc.

He has a recorded history of successfully cutting taxes, cutting welfare programs, cutting spending, cutting deficits and balancing the budget.

I respect Jim, and he certainly is able to make an informed decision with any information that he deems important as to what candidate he wants to support...

...but millions of other people have the same right to make the same decisions about candidates of their own choosing, as well.

Yet, here you are, arguing with me about mine.

I provided you with a link to Jim's thread. Why not go over there and "widen your impact" by arguing with him about his?

Glad Bachmann is doing better, and even a bit better than Perry. Bachmann is in 4th place, and McCain was in 5th place four years ago. However, McCain’s poll numbers were higher than Bachmann’s, or Perry’s, but there was also one less person running 4 years ago.

There’s still hope that we won’t be running another Bush lite.

...and I'm sure as heck won't be knocking on doors for him, and nobody in my Tea Party group is willing to do that, either.

So who are you supporting? My last two donations were to Cain who I see you supported. But who do you support now?
