DES MOINES Presidential contender Rick Perry said there are eight Supreme Court justices, not nine, and flubbed Justice Sonia Sotomayors (SOHN-ya soh-toh-my-YOR) name in an editorial board meeting at The Des Moines Register.
Perry met with the board Friday. He struggled for six seconds to come up with Sotomayors name, then initially called the justice Montemayor. A member of the newspapers editorial board helped him out with the correct name.

What are you willing to wager if (when) I prove otherwise?
HEY, HEY, HEY! NOW STOP IT:
He was just being amenable to those of us “heartless” bigots who may not like her for no other reason than because she has a “different sounding last name.”
I’m still waiting for the press to report that Obama couldn’t even pronounce “Osawatomie” correctly when he gave his speech there a couple days ago.
And Kansas as Texas.
In defense of Governor Perry, with whom I have had problems with over his “don’t have a heart” comment re: in-state tuition, he is TECHNICALLY correct, there are 8 justices and ONE chief justice.
Seriously?
When did minor verbal slip-ups become worthy of major news headlines?
Sheesh.
“And Kansas as Texas.”
I missed that one. I’ll have to do a search.
Well, Obama knows a lot of Navy “corpse-men”. He met most of them while visiting all 57 states.
Good post.
Obama declared that we have 57 states...
Coming from Texas. he probably isn’t familiar the pronunciation of with Hispanic names.
“When did minor verbal slip-ups become worthy of major news headlines?”
When you run for public office and frequently and significantly need help to remember things every school kid should know. That doesn’t inspire confidence in the people you want to rule over (applicable to both Rick Perry and Obama).
“He struggled for six seconds to come up with Sotomayors name, then initially called the justice Montemayor. A member of the newspapers editorial board helped him out with the correct name.”
Soda- mayor-, now say it real fast. LOL
Not even Perry's people will try to spin it that badly.
Considering he is running for President and its only expected of him to know all the Justices since as President he would be in charge of appointing judges to the bench of SCOTUS.
It’s embarrassing.
Yeah, that’s the ticket: We should subscribe to an Associated Pimps article like lefty lemmings, and pile-on one of the more conservative viable candidates because the rest of us get through the week without making any mistakes at all.
Try listening to Joe Bob Briggs, Tommy Lee Jones or Billy Bob Thornton if you want an education in talking good; Texans laugh at you when they hear you order a `Tahco.’
This is an example of why Sarah Palin isn’t running and why there are so few `normal’ candidates. Some Ass. Pimp is going to be toasted by his/her fellow gerbalists at a rodent cocktail party, tonight, for stalking one of the enemy’s candidates and reporting a `gotcha’ moment.
And the rest of them will start sharpening their teeth.
And the good conservatives here will be cherring them on.
Orwell once wrote (to paraphrase) that the sign of a tyranny was not the tyrants themselves, but the existence of subjects who reveled in their subjection and discouraged others from trying to free themselves from their shackles.
This is the kind of stuff that really chaps my ass.
I’d like to have never heard her name however you pronounce it.
