SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- The number of major U.S. companies covering the cost of gender reassignment surgery for transgender workers has more than doubled in the past year, according to a new scorecard compiled by the nation's largest gay rights group.
The Human Rights Campaign said in a report to be published Thursday that 207 of the 636 businesses it surveyed for its annual Corporate Equality Index either are already providing transgender- inclusive employee health benefits or plan to at the start of the new year.
Last year, 85 companies had insurance plans that paid for sex transformation surgeries, and only 49 did in 2009. A decade ago, when the campaign launched the index, none did.

Whats the cost of an Addadictomy?
Are you buying or just borrowing?
When we shove the sodomites back in the closet and not before. Because of the homosexual mafia companies are now paying for the mutilation of their bodies—truly sick.
Here We Go Again Ping!
“Whats the cost of an Addadictomy?”
You pay by the inch.
What?! How is this a medical neccessity? My doctor wrote a letter years ago to my insurance company explaining my skin condition of rosacea/psoriasis and that it could only be treated with laser light and they refused to cover it. So I walked around for awhile looking like a blotchy scaley mess, yeah good luck landing a job like that huh. But they will cover if you want to grow boobs or get your penis lopped off? Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. They didn’t care if their client walked around looking like a freak due to an untreated medical condition that just happened to affect her “cosmetically” but they are so willing to cover the real freaks so they can what? “Feel” better about themselves?
” (so far sex change is still a Sweden thing)”
I’m not sure what you mean by this. Gender reassignment surgery is done in the U.S. In fact, I work at a hospital that does them. I’m holding my breath that I don’t get assigned to give anesthesia during one of these cases. If I do, there’s gonna be a ruckus. I’ll refuse. Period.
I don’t anesthetize for abortions. I ain’t gonna do this, either.
Wouldn't it be more accurately called "Genital mutilation surgery"? Maybe it's just me, but I don't see how mutilating someone's body and pumping him up full of female hormones fits that whole "do no harm" principle. (Ditto for mutilation of women to make them superficially similar to men.)
It seems to me that we in the majority should fight this tooth and nail no matter what state we are in because this type of absurdity in the end raises all our rates.
Is there such a thing as protesting coverage for this type of thing on the same moral grounds as coverage for abortion?
Or is it different because it’s insurance companies and private companies pushing it.
Perhaps we should get a list of all the major companies allowing this on their plan and boycott them.
This REALLY pisses me off!
Apple, Chevron, General Mills, Dow Chemical, American Airlines, Kellogg, Sprint, Levi Strauss, Eli Lilly, Best Buy, Nordstrom, the U.S. division of Volkswagen, Whirlpool, Xerox, Raytheon and Office Depot.
I’m with ya.....
I just used the “proper medical terminology”
There is no question of sex change.
The technique is “gender reassignment” which are what amount to weasel words that transform. So far we have no recorded instance of a transvestite male having his gender reassigned such that he becomes pregnant.
Self mutilation is hardly a means of self improvement. It’s a cruel and inhumane culture that promotes this as a pathway to improve self perception.
Agreed. Window dressing, at it’s worst. This is, I think, the other side of the fact that obamacare drastically reduces coverage for maternity. So, you can’t be covered for having a baby, but you can be covered if you want to look like Cher.
My employer covers this, while tightening other coverage. An individual who “changed” and said this was a great health change mentioned it’s out of pocket costs at about 50K, done in the USA.
Using public money to pay for the mutilation of the genitals of people suffering from mental disorders is...
No words suffice.
Samuel Adams, where are you when we need you?
“Perhaps we should get a list of all the major companies allowing this on their plan and boycott them.”
People say, “It’s always about the money.” Well, it’s not; not always, not this time.
This is about the eternal war between good and evil.
I don’t think these companies will respond to boycotts at any level that is practically achievable.
I don’t think they will respond until—and I am not advocating this—pe*ple beg*n b*rning their st*res and of*ices, and generally acting like labor union organizers back in the 1930s.
“Standard treatment protocol” is probably more accurate than “medically necessary”. The point was that as this is considered the standard treatment for this, it would be covered by insurance (ie in all our premiums).
And it happens over years. First the weirdo has to dress like the opposite sex for years, have shrink visits for years, want to change their body, then finally start having operations. So all of this pre-op stuff with shrinks and such are covered too.
I will be a-pinging a bit later this afternoon. ACK. Always appreciate being alerted to relevant articles.
That goes to show what happens when I ain’t looking.
They “ball the Jack” here now?
God save us.
