Herman Cain, the insurgent populist whose candidacy has been ensnared by allegations of sexual impropriety, said Saturday that he is leaving the race for the Republican presidential nomination, saying that the allegations have cast a "cloud of doubt over me and this campaign."
"As of today, with a lot of prayer and soul searching, I am suspending my presidential campaign," he said at an event in Atlanta. "I am suspending my presidential campaign because of the continued distraction, the continued hurt . . . on me, on my family, not because we are not fighters, not because I am not a fighter."
Cain's campaign had sent mixed signals as to his future since Ginger White, an Atlanta woman who claims to have had an affair with Cain for more than a decade, went public with her story earlier this week. While Cain has said he has been "reassessing" his candidacy, he also, at times, has been fiercely defiant, suggesting that unnamed enemies have been trying to do him in and vowing to press forward.
"The pundits would like for me to shut up, drop out and go away," he said. "I am not going to be silenced, and I am not going away."

Especially when you remember the context - Cain is a self-made millionaire. So giving a friend money going through hard times can actually not even be a blip on the discussion radar. If a normally financed person gave someone $100, he might not say anything. Cain lent his own campaign $675,000 and never endangered or stressed his own wealth. So he could give someone in need ten grand and not think it a big thing, while it would be a huge issue for someone else.
Even more, how many companies pay demands when they can win in court, so that they don't have to pay even more in attorneys fees, court costs and bad press? This goes on all the time. Maybe Cain evaluated this woman as a whack job, and paid her to get lost, and didn't tell his wife precisely because it would unneccessarily upset her. There are many conceivable such scenarios. But the media and public always want the worst.
By which you mean Huntsman and Santorum?

No, I don’t “hang a guy out to dry” because he didn’t tell his wife - frankly I couldn’t care less if he’s been shacking up with White the entire 13 years, and it would have no effect on my opinion of his ability to be president or my inclination to vote for him. However, the fact is he chose to quit after consulting with his wife, and I’m not naive enough to think that it was simply because a woman came forward with false allegations (uncomfortably coupled with true allegations that he secretly supported her financially for an extended period of time). I don’t think Gloria’s naive either.
Cains suspension of his campaign will only embolden the liberal smear machine to go out and commit similar acts of personal destruction against the other candidates. Liberals cannot just settle for defeating their opponents politically; the MUST destroy them personally.
The left cannot settle for political victory. They NEED top destroy their opponents lives. Otherwise, theyre never completely satisfied.
Liberalism is founded in contempt for other people, thus the need to destroy people personally if they poke their head above water. Especially minorities, whom the libs view as their property. Literally.
What do you want to bet Cains campaign rakes in money in large amounts over the next several days?
>>> Sad to see another good American get beaten by the press.
Make no mistake... Cain’s fight with the press is FAR from over.
Cain also said “I will not be silenced, and I’m NOT going away!”
This was his most forceful and strongest statement.
Cain’s chances at winning the nomination is severely hampered if not crippled at this point, but NOT OVER.
How else can Cain “not be silenced” if he doesn’t intend on taking the fight to the enemy? What else does he do?... go on talk shows to complain? Mark my words... Cain is going to sue everyone involved with pumping this crap out on the airwaves... AND... if he gets a quick victory, he will resume his fight for the nomination provided ample time remains.
My guess is that his lawyers advised a suspension for legal reasons so they can start filing charges and serving summons.

Which of course will be Newt.
The Chicago Machine hasn't even started on Newt yet. Just wait.
Not that odd, really. Herman Cain is a very kind and generous man. He is wealthy, and has the means to help people, and has helped both men and women. He hasn't necessarily told Gloria about everyone he has helped because it wasn't a big thing to him, especially if he wasn't diverting funds that his family needed to survive. I've done that before, usually nominal amounts. There was one time when I gave the single mother next door rent money because she had been served an eviction notice in the month of December, and she had just lost her job. She didn't ask me for the money, but I had heard about it, and I couldn't just watch her be put in the street with her little boy in the middle of winter. I didn't tell my husband, but he found out anyway when she came over to thank us and he answered the door. He confronted me about it, we discussed it, and I don't do things like that any more.
1) The constant meme has been that Republicans are against Obama's policies because we're racists, which is a bunch of hooey. We're against his policies because we think they're wrong for the country, and we could give a rat's patootie about his skin color. They would be wrong to us, whether he was black white brown blue yellow red green or pink with purple polka dots. But now we have a black conservative, Cain, who's off the Democrat plantation. The most recent meme has been that the only reason that many Republicans support -- or supported -- Cain is because we can point to him as "proof" that we're not racists, which is also poppycock. We're conservatives, after all, and we agree with most of his policies. We would agree with them just as much if he were white. BUT if the Republicans nominated a black man as our candidate, that would take away one of the Democrats' main arguments for Obama, that nasty Republicans don't want a black man in the White House any more.
2) If Herman Cain were the Republican nominee, he would split the black vote. The Democrats can't allow that to happen.
This, IMHO, makes Herman Cain a dangerous candidate, as far as Democrats are concerned. You'll notice that all of the allegations started to come out when Cain's performance in the polls started to rise. The neat thing is that if they do the setup during the primary, most people would suspect other Republicans, not Democrats. Brilliant! And diabolical.
Also consider that some have noticed a Chicago connection to the allegations. Chicago....hmmmmmmm.
Poor sweet furry baby. And I see you’re coming up on the first anniversary of her death. I’m sure she had a wonderful home with you.
You might be on to smething here. Cain said he’s SUSPENDING his campaign. True, historically primary candidates who use similar verbiage typically have indeed dropped out altogether eventually, but he has not said he’s dropping out at this time. It would indeed be great if his atty’s have a few legal tricks up their sleeves. Not to mention to put that William Kuntsler in drag, Glorified Allmeds, as Michael Savage call her, down a few notches.
I still look for her when I come home, in her spot. She was my first, my beloved.
Her ashes are in front of my computer...which was her favorite spot (actually anywhere I was was her favorite spot). I’d look right, she’d go right. I’d look left, she’d go left.
The love never leaves.
I see your point, but where was everyone when so many were trashing Gov. Palin after she demurred?
” - - - Cains fight with the press is FAR from over.”
Court cases against the accusers might be completed by June, 2012. That would still give Cain time to build support before the Nomination in Tampa.
The worst thing Cain could do would be to “throw his support” to a currently active candidate, as none of us like anybody but Cain, and are not going to support some RINO/Conservative re-tread.

Thank you Herman for giving us hope, and a very high standard of intelligent Conservative plans to dismantle the hated Entitlement Plantation: Department of Education (1912, Teddy Roosevelt), Social Security (FDR), Federal Aid to Education (JFK), Medicare/caid (LBJ); Food Stamps (Nixon); No Child Left Behind (GWB); Obama”care” (Arrogant, You Lie Obama).
If your now suspended campaign is terminated in the near future, we will find another Conservative Warrior to lead us out of the Valley of Debt. We, the Taxed Enough Already, are the engine of revolution in the 2012 National Election. We will prevail, with or without you.
How you, Herman, resolve the pain and suffering to you and your family is a choice that we all respect. May God Bless you and your family.
BTW, MERRY CHRISTMAS!
