WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney was accused on Wednesday of flip-flopping for comments he made in 2007 indicating he was open to a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants.
Romney's remarks, made on NBC's "Meet the Press" when he was a candidate for president, were circulated by rival Newt Gingrich's campaign the day after the former Speaker of the House of Representatives came under similar fire for suggesting during a debate Tuesday night that he was in favor of such a pathway for immigrants.
Opponents of a pathway, a large swath of the early-voting Republican electorate, have branded the proposal as equal to an amnesty for the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants living in the United States.
Conservative Republican voters in early-voting states like Iowa have demonstrated little patience for candidates or office-holders who are receptive to any plans that would grant citizenship to illegal immigrants.
The Gingrich campaign noted that during the 2007 interview, Romney said "that those people who had come here illegally and are in this country, the 12 million or so that are here illegally, should be able to sign up for permanent residency or citizenship."

Preacher Bishop RINO Romney:
"On my planet, such inconsistent statements
PROVE I am conservative and consistent.
Now bow before me and accept the inevitable."
“the 12 million or so that are here illegally, should be able to sign up for permanent residency or citizenship.”
That is what Mitt said. Newt said no such thing on a path to citizenship. What is the old saying about a lie being half way around the world before the truth even gets its pants on.
Newt or Mitt won’t fix immigration if they are elected.
what a shock /s.
btw, glenn beck endorses michele bachmann. just got an email.
Foreign nationals or foreign citizens, who illegally entered and are illegally living in the US, should never be given the coveted prize of US citizenship. Legal Permanent residency? Maybe, upon conditions, such as they have lived in the US a long number of years, have children born in the US, which makes the child a dual citizen of both the US and the parent’s country of citizenship. And that while living illegally in the US, they have not committed any crimes and have proof that they conducted themselves during those years, as worthy of being allowed legal US residency which means they can become legal US residents of foreign citizenship.
That 10 Million number has been used for more than a decade.
The Border Patrol states the ILLEGALS in America is > 30 Million.
The Question Is: Will anybody, really, fix the ongoing and worsening illegal immigration problem?
FUMR!!
To be entirely correct, he did not use the endorse word yesterday but said of all the candidates, she is the one he would support. That all came crashing down this morning when he rescinded that approval after something she said last night. I did not get to hear what it was that he disagreed with because I got a phone call but I did hear him say he was pulling back.
Just as I spoke, it came in from the Blaze.

“The Border Patrol states the ILLEGALS in America is > 30 Million.”
30 mil is more in line with my reading on the matter as well.
The border situation is what the Fed is supposed to be about amongst a few other things, and they aren’t doing the job. Time to fire them. It’s what one does if one has an employee that isn’t doing the job.
Past time to roto rooter the system, to clean out the crap.
Pull the chain, and flush the Congressional Bowl.
Blitzer pressed Romney on whether he would consider letting immigrants who have been in the United States illegally for 25 years stay in this country. Im not going to start drawing lines here about who gets to stay and who get to go, Romney responded. The principle is that we are not going to have an amnesty system that says that people who come here illegally get to stay for the rest of their life in this country legally.
NOOT or Willard won’t fix anything else, either.
The sort of fixing this country needs isn’t going to be done by politicians, bureaucracy or law enforcement.
We can hope for an EMP, however.
I'll sit home before I ever support that, as it won't matter who is elected at that point.
Every illegal alien who has worked in the United States has committed one or more of the following crimes: ID Theft, Document Fraud, Social Security Fraud, Employment (I-9 Form) Fraud, and Conspiracy to Violate Immigration Laws.
Newt: “Some illegals deserve amnesty”
.....
There is already a legal path to citizenship, they swear in new citizens all the time. You have to wait in line and pay your dues not skip to the front.
The 1986 deal was a failure, the “deal” was not kept by Dems.
There are a whole lot more foreign invaders now, and a war on the border. 70% of illegals on some form of welfare, raping the taxpayers.
Amnesty is a bad idea.
Cut off all the benefits.
Homer warns us to be careful letting foreigners in the city. Rome let them in..they were called peregrines...perpetual inhabitants.
Caracalla gave them citizenship...Gibbons writes this action was the beginning of Rome’s fall.
One of Caracalla’s parents was a Roman citizen...the other was Syrian.
Yup. This is no minor issue, and gets worse every year. Beheadings, coming soon. But, everyone's occupied fighting overseas or being scared by something happening thousands of miles away. So these anti-sovereignty candidates continue to excuse the illegal alien criminals in our own neighborhood.
