The FReeper Canteen Celebrates.....

Marine Corps' 236th Birthday Message and Video

For ten years now, our Corps has been engaged in continuous combat operations against those who threaten the security of America and our allies. We turned the tide in the Anbar province of Iraq and continue to see success today in southwest Afghanistan. While it has come at a cost … we have much to be proud of.

This past year in operations around the world including humanitarian disaster relief, counter-piracy, theater security cooperation, special operations, counter-insurgency and many more, you continued to solidify our place as America’s expeditionary force in readiness. Since the Continental Congress created two battalions of Marines 236 years ago, our legacy as an ever-ready, ever-capable, victory-producing organization remains intact.

Our rich heritage of selfless service and fidelity to Nation and to one another lives on in all who currently wear the eagle, globe and anchor—those who have answered the clarion call to duty with remarkable courage, dedication and unshakable resolve that Marines are so well known for. To all Marines—past and present—and especially to our families … I extend my deep gratitude for all you have done and all you continue to do.

As we celebrate our 236th Birthday, let us look forward to future challenges—whatever they may be—and reaffirm our pledge to be America’s premier crisis response force; to be the first to fight ... always ready for the toughest and most challenging assignments.

Happy Birthday, Marines, and Semper Fidelis!

James F. Amos General, U.S. Marine Corps Commandant of the Marine Corps

Finishing a woman’s diary about her autistic child. Very sad — she is in hospital, victim of overmedication. She is semi-vegetable.

We had bout of snow 3 weeks ago — nothing like Alaska, though.

I will certainy relay the message Kathy.....He mentioned never feeling so close to his country as he did while taking the Marine Oath. It was so easy to see he was impacted.

I am grateful for your kind words. Support from “good” citizens like you is golden when we were deployed. Family, friends, neighbors and those who love this nations security and freedoms helped me and my team through many dark times with a call, some mail or a “care package” from the “world” .

Each generation changes, each conflict brings political propaganda and hardships but we have to remember. No one wants peace and freedom more that Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen or Marines. We worked for it, some paid the ultimate sacrifice. Yet we couldn’t make it happen with the support provided by individuals, communities, manufacturing bases, commercial logistics, rationing of resources key to such etc etc... all Americans IMO are veterans of each conflict, with or without their support.

But it is the ones that support the veterans and those still active duty that I am truly grateful for ......

Thank You....

Well said as always.

My Father served in the Navy and I'm proud of his service to his country. His father served in WWI aboard the Arizona, he tried to reenlist after Pearl but was 43 years old and had 7 children, they thanked him and sent him home.

Cheers, Yankee.
