WASHINGTON One of the women who accused the Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain of sexual harassment while working for him at the National Restaurant Association in the late 1990s complained that the workplace turned hostile after she alleged that he made advances toward her during a work-related outing, several people familiar with her account at the time said in interviews.
The advances were said to have taken place during a festive night in which Mr. Cain and several younger staff members drank until late in the evening, and his flirty banter with the woman crossed over into propositions that she leave with him, these people said, speaking in separate interviews and on the condition of anonymity.

I remember that game—it was called “Telephone”— we would all laugh when the last listener got to say what they’d heard because it was always so far off the mark.
I’ve been in environments that were fun and had a lot of joking around and went out together after work. Then someone who’s part of our group (we think) goes to HR (doesn’t discuss with us first) because someone else said something that offended them. Then we all get to talk to HR. And the manager has to start enforcing HR rules to the letter. And we don’t have as much fun at work. Productivity seems to go down as there’s less incentive for everyone to stay late, get pizza, and have fun as we someone finish a task. And we don’t invite the person who started the problems when we go out after work. I wouldn’t call it hostility, but the person who caused it certainly isn’t at the top of everyone’s list and isn’t someone we’re going out of our way to help any more.
Anyone remember how the Clinton women were treated? As vile criminals. On TV every day and straight from the White House!
bvw’s American Prosperity Plan:
Ban HR departments and tar and post-it note all HR people. Tie them to their ergonomic desk chairs and roll them out onto the sidewalk. Give them a surplus OWS tent as severance.
This could get the NYT fiction award - maybe Pulitzer.

He should call Sarah. She became most adept at dealing with the scummy media.
a more stable manner??? you mean like our good friend Mittens????
The issue that concerns me is what concerned me in 08’ with the Democrats. They had Republican derangement syndrome and ignored the facts. This is why we have Obama. Those same voters now have remorse. This is exactly what Republicans are demonstrating with Cain. Let’s not ignore the warning signs. Research this man. Do not try to prove that the Republicans are not racists once again. Elect the candidate that is not a flip flopper, does what he says he will do and has a clear track record. Research all candidates and all angles. Do this and you will find the candidate that sits right with the American people.
Name names, dammit.
So much for ethics in journalism...
maybe cuz she was a professional liar and opportunist system-milker? Idunno. I don’t have any details. Just guessing.
It’s hard to keep the Journo-list on the same page. They all want to embellish their made up sources.

“... and his flirty banter with the woman crossed over into propositions that she leave with him...”
Wait.
I’m confused.
So far I’ve read that:
- he propositioned her, they left in a cab and went back to his apartment.
- he propositioned her, they left in a cab and went back to his apartment and she stayed the night. The next morning she woke up in his bed. (No sex)
- he propositioned her, they left in a cab and went back to his apartment and she stayed the night. The next morning she woke up. (No sex)
Now the story is that he propositioned her and she rebuffed him.
The fact that two of the other accusers have accused over things like him commenting that a woman was the same height as his wife while “gesturing” (holding his hand under his chin) and saying, “darling, would you please doctor my tea,” puts this all in the witch-hunt category.
Even if it proves to be true and the man got drunk and made a pass at a woman when he was in his 40’s, I’m still not convinced to join the lynch mob. People make mistakes. ONE mistake doesn’t condemn a man for life.
Clinton had a string of sexual harassment complaints, a rape charge and numerous affairs. That is a habitual offender that wants nothing to do with redemption.
I’m done with this. The more they keep throwing out there, the more ridiculous *they* look... not Cain.
Sounds to me like there was some ongoing flirting, which is generally a two way street. Then sure, maybe he wanted to take it a little further and she didn't. Or maybe she only got the idea that he wanted to take it a little further. So what does she do? Politely tell him ok, enough is enough, but this isn't fun anymore? No, apparently she goes nuclear on him and files charges. If that's her way of dealing with people - wild swings from one end of the spectrum to the other - no wonder people are treating her differently now, she's dangerous.
As if anonymous lynch mob "journalism" wasn't slimy enough, the NY Times has now stooped to reporting anonymous sources commenting on anonymous accusurs commenting on anonymous accusations.
The NY Times, and others in the MSM, have become KKK 2.0 . The KKK would hide behind their hoods. The Times hides behind their anonymous sources.
I don't know either but I'd say that it's not outside the realm of possibility.
We all know folks whose "career goals" is to live off others, by seeking to be "injured" in some way. Sometimes it's physical (no disrespect to those genuinely injured at work) as in the old "I hurt my back" routine; sometimes it's "I was offended/insulted/harassed" (no disrespect to those genuinely harassed).
I've personally seen women outright lie about things that were said to them so I have a great deal of difficulty believing this one (particularly since we still have not had women from almost every single place Mr. Cain has been his entire adult life lining up to tell us what he did or said to them, thus demonstrating a pattern).
I also once worked with a woman who had a still-unsettled sexual harassment case pending from a previous employer. At first she seemed very believable, the quiet demure type who surely would not invite "harassment." After a couple of weeks, however, yowsa!! Her "true colors" came out and she started making a dead set after a very married male fellow employee. He worked in a different department so the contact was not constant, but this was another situation where I could see that if he outright rejected her there could have been another "harassment" charge made; I have no doubt she would have twisted things which were said. (Fortunately, she found a job more to her liking and left before it could go that far).
Maybe I'm just cynical but in my experience people lie all the time if they think they can gain from it, and women are not exempt.
I teach at a large mid-western university. We had the director of Affirmative Action come and speak about the University's Sexual Harassment Policy to a Masters of Accounting seminar. I was consistently surprised by how reasonably the policy was interpreted and enforced.
Although the question of a simple proposition and a no response never came up, it seems clear from the other responses to questions that it would not be seen an act of sexual harassment. Of course, that assumes that the proposition was not lewd or otherwise egregious, the "no" was accepted as a "no", and no retribution was forthcoming.
Overall, it seems that the policy enforcers here were concerned that both the accused and accuser were fairly treated.
In the company I worked for, it was okay for men and women to date one another, however, legal wanted to keep on file that they were dating and wanted in writing that it was consentual with both parties.
snicker, yeah right..... I seriously doubt anyone did that! They’d just date on the sly.
They were okay with the dating thing and I don’t know what happened but next thing we knew, they wanted it in writing. None of their business! What a country!
Good point.
We should all be done with this. As Fred Thompson asked, I want to know who dropped the dime. I damned well want to know if it was from someone in the GOP, either another candidate or a member of the GOP elite alarmed because of his rising popularity.
This is not just about Cain. It is about us. I want to know what was expected in terms of our reaction. Did they expect a mob of pot bangers? Or did they expect a visceral reaction based on a racial level?
I will never know the answers, but I hate being played the fool by anyone. Politico, PM, WaPo, NYT’s are trying to play us for fools.
