Anita Perry, Unplugged
The Wall Street Journal ^ | OCTOBER 14, 2011 | staff

Posted on 10/14/2011 12:56:21 PM PDT by BarnacleCenturion

Ever wonder why candidates rarely have their spouses take the stump? Rick Perry's wife Anita told a South Carolina religious forum yesterday that she and her husband "were being brutalized by our opponents, and our own party. So much of that is, I think they look at him, because of his faith. He is the only true conservative -- well, there are some true conservatives. And they're there for good reasons. And they may feel like God called them too. But I truly feel like we are here for that purpose."

While her speech was intended to improve the Texas Governor's rapport with Christian conservatives after his poor showing in last weekend's Values Voter straw poll, (Mr. Perry came in a distant fourth, following Ron Paul, Herman Cain and Rick Santorum), she may have done more to alienate those voters than to help the cause.

Suggesting that voters who've turned against the Texas governor are religious bigots isn't likely to win them back.

“Messages from mythological deities always raises red flags.”

Really stupid comments like that do also.

Some of the vicious lies and smears on Free Republic have been beyond the pale.

I'll be quite honest with you. I have been here since around 2002 under a different username. Quit about 2 years ago, came back just recently and I can't believe the changes! Half the comments I read come straight from DU. It was quite the culture shock for me. It's not the same place it use to be that's for sure.

Herman Cain Only Has "Several Hundred Thousand Dollars In The Bank Perry has 15+ million in his campaign account...who do you think will last? Cain will wrap it up, endorse Romney and go home hoping Romney will keep his promise to pick him for VP. That is reality.

Media Amplification of a statement out of context?
When was the last time this “South Carolina religious forum” actually made a difference for a candidate. The poo is odoriferous.

i’d bet money, that if he’d backed up that Minister, Perry would have GAINED net votes!

I thought he did just fine. When Romney called for him to disavow the preacher, Perry told him flat out: No. I thought that was a pretty good "back up" of the preacher.

"Herman Cain Only Has Several Hundred Thousand Dollars In The Bank" .... Perry has 15+ million in his campaign account...who do you think will last? Cain will wrap it up, endorse Romney and go home hoping Romney will keep his promise to pick him for VP. That is reality.

It's amazing how, after the Sarah Palin Tease, so many on Free Republic are again falling for the exact same type of candidate that is out hawking books on a book tour rather than paying attention to what it takes to actually win an election.

The 9-9-9 Plan hype will be shredded to bits in ads before the primaries and Cain will not be able to reply because he has paid absolutely no attention to serious fund raising.

That is by choice. Cain's choice is to cash in, concentrate attacks on Perry, treat his old buddy, Mitt Romney, with kid gloves and leave the nomination to Romney.

Herman Cain said Wednesday that he would be unable to support Rick Perry for president if the Texas governor were to eventually win the party's nomination. .... The former businessman said, for instance, that he could support former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney....

In my opinion, however, Cain does not seek to be a VP candidate. He is acting like somebody that wants to be the next Sarah Palin and the next Huckabee with book deals, high speaking fees and a lucrative contract with FOX News.

Once Cain bails out, ... and he will, .... the GOP will have been left with Cain's pal: Mitt Romney.

No pretending here, Mittens is the only candidate I CAN’T support. I have an open mind and can still be swayed as to who I will support.
Perry can’t afford to insult voters he is trying to court.

Cain will bail out much sooner than the primaries. Today, that isn’t his plan but it will.

I am impressed by Governor Perry and Mrs. Perry.

He has of the current field the best record of experience in governance and service to his country.

We should not use MSM standards to judge Rick Perry. Its exactly what the left wants to happen. Yes he has conservative shortcomings in several areas of his record, on immigration policy for example, but he stands head and shoulders above all of them on governance experience and service to the nation and his sins are minor compared to Romney’s.

We shouldn’t elect a TV personna this time, besides, he often carries a Ruger .380 auto when he jogs, that alone earns my vote, LOL.

This says it all, Perry will beat the ass off Obama if he secures the nomination,he has nailed him before directly and has the balls to take Obama on face to face as a matter of official duty, unlike any of the other candidates:

C-130 Rick Perry: He Flew The World Before Politics

Abilene Online

By Sarah Kleiner Varble

Rank: Retired as a captain

Hometown: Haskell

Crew job: C-130 aircraft commander

Served in the Air Force: 1972 to 1977

Dyess AFB tour: March 4, 1974, to Feb. 28, 1977

His story:Way back before he was governor of Texas, Rick Perry had two choices as a young member of the Air Force.

He could either follow his dream and work toward becoming an instructor pilot in the sleek T-38, or he could fly the hulking C-130, planes that affectionately were referred to as “trash haulers” by Perry and his cohorts.

“There was no telling what you were going to haul around on any given day, from high value cargo like human beings to the colonel’s kitty litter,” Perry told the Reporter-News in a recent phone interview.

He wanted to fly T-38s, but not badly enough to move to Selma, Ala., where he would have been assigned. So, Perry chose to stay in Texas and fly the C-130.

In 1974, he moved to Dyess Air Force Base, about 55 miles from his hometown of Haskell, and began a career that took him all over the world and shaped his political future.

“It was one of the great adventures of my life,” Perry said. “I had a fairly pedestrian life until I was 23 years old.”

Perry could count on one hand the number of trips he had taken out of his home state by the time he graduated from Texas A&M University, but everything changed when he joined the Air Force.

Flying C-130s, Perry lived in Germany and Saudi Arabia. He flew in Central and South America, North Africa and all over Europe.

“I saw all of these different types of governments and I made the connections to how the people acted and looked, and it became abundantly clear to me that, at that particular point in time, that America was this very unique place and that our form of democracy was very rare,” Perry said. “ ... That was the greatest gift I received from my years of being in the military, and they really shaped my outlook on the rest of my life.”

Perry retired from the Air Force in 1977 — but not without one last adventure.

As his final days approached, Perry was assigned to a mission to “haul trash” to Bermuda with a relatively inexperienced crew.

“I’m sure the young guys stayed up a little longer than the older guy, which would be me at 26 years old,” Perry said, and they fell asleep on the way back to Abilene.

About the time the plane reached Atlanta, a fire light for the No. 3 engine flashed once. And then it flashed again.

Perry poked his co-pilot as the light reappeared and held steady on red.

Using the headset, he asked the loadmaster to take a look at the engine from the window and about that time, the engine exploded and blew a tail pipe off the plane.

“He started screaming that we were on fire and that we were all going to die,” Perry said. “The aircraft operated as advertised and flies amazingly well on three engines.”

Perry and his crew were stuck at Pope Air Force Base while awaiting a new engine. With three days left in his enlistment, Perry called the command post at Dyess and informed them that they would have to send a new pilot along with the engine if they didn’t hurry.

“I said, ‘In three days, I’m not Captain Perry anymore, I’m Mr. Perry, and I’m going home,” Perry said.

The engine arrived and the plane returned to Dyess in time for Perry to retire Feb. 28, as planned.

He went on to be elected to the state House of Representatives, agriculture commissioner, lieutenant governor and, finally, governor of Texas.

Is there a link to video of this Lady saying what the enemedia is claiming?

It was on the news a lot last night, complete with tears. It really makes me wonder why she would lash out like that and complain that Democrats and Republicans are "brutalizing" him over religion when it's a lot of other things that people are criticizing him over. If it was about religious bashing, Perry would have to get in line behind Romney, Huntsman, and Bachmann.

It raises the point - why did she break out the tears? She has no reason to be stressed - Rick is comfortably in the #3 or #4 spot in the last few weeks of polls, he's got money. There are several candidate spouses who should be a lot more stressed than Anita is.

I thought at first it was just misdirection and damage control after the last debate, but having watched the video twice and reading other comments she's made, I think she honestly believes it. Her believing that God was speaking to her and that Rick didn't want to listen to God, and her comparison of Rick to Moses...somebody needs to send her off to a nice spa for a week or two, out of sight of the cameras and microphones.

One good thing going for Anita, she and Rick aren't being subjected to the level of harassment that Sarah Palin and her family were. Anita would have physically collapsed if she and her family had underwent that.

You show your true purpose not only attacking Governor Perry but insulting his wife.

She's out there insulting Republicans for "brutalizing" her husband and claiming they don't like his religious views. She started casting stones at others, she should expect them in return.

but it should be noted that Perry supporters are not engaging in vicious attacks against other candidates like some of the posters on Free Republic that support other candidates.

Bullshit. From the moment Perry declared, there were plenty of Perry fans who were out there criticizing people who didn't support Perry, claiming that if you didn't support Perry you supported Romney or Obama. Claiming that not supporting Perry puts you in the Romney or Obama camp is about as vicious as you can get.

Are you implying that Perry supporters are nothing but positive and truthful? I’m honestly curious.

So you’ve ‘watched the video twice’ yet you post no link to it or say how/where you watch this video twice. You leave me to assume you watched it on ‘the news’ twice. Are you aware that the media is not the friend of conservatives and they can and do edit video to serve their agenda?

If you’ve only come back in the last couple of weeks or month or so, don’t take the current environment for the norm. Everyone has gone nuts over their candidate. I tried for a while pointing out how tearing down other candidates wasn’t helpful, but everyone is emotionally involved and the only thing that matters is their candidate. To heck with conservatism or anything else. I gave up. I am now more turned off at certain candidates, including Perry, because of their supporters more so than anything the candidate has said or done.

Based upon your smarmy posts regarding Rick and now his wife, I’d say you weren’t comfy with Anita’s talk. Did you post one of those nasty little ‘comments’ in the comment section?
