Ever wonder why candidates rarely have their spouses take the stump? Rick Perry's wife Anita told a South Carolina religious forum yesterday that she and her husband "were being brutalized by our opponents, and our own party. So much of that is, I think they look at him, because of his faith. He is the only true conservative -- well, there are some true conservatives. And they're there for good reasons. And they may feel like God called them too. But I truly feel like we are here for that purpose."
While her speech was intended to improve the Texas Governor's rapport with Christian conservatives after his poor showing in last weekend's Values Voter straw poll, (Mr. Perry came in a distant fourth, following Ron Paul, Herman Cain and Rick Santorum), she may have done more to alienate those voters than to help the cause.
Suggesting that voters who've turned against the Texas governor are religious bigots isn't likely to win them back.

You rude comments are telling. Candidates family should be off limits.
You show your true purpose not only attacking Governor Perry but insulting his wife. Obviously you support another candidate, but it should be noted that Perry supporters are not engaging in vicious attacks against other candidates like some of the posters on Free Republic that support other candidates.
Grow up. If the little Mrs. gets upset at this she will be in one of those button up the back jackets by the time Iowa rolls around.
We get it.
What a beauty she is. She is our First Lady in Texas...shell be a great First Lady for America. What a great change from what is living in our White House. I can tell you, shell not spend millions on vacations or WH parties.

i agree with that.
and i’ll concede their love and marrige is inspirational.
and she’d make a great First Lady.
I have nothing but respect for Anita Perry.
but Perry agreeing with her,
that he’s being “brutalized” for his religion ???
...how Presidential.
...and Perry has been losing tea party and evangelicals,
not moderates. he’s not being brutalized for his faith, but for not standing up for it enough.
(i’d bet money, that if he’d backed up that Minister,
Perry would have GAINED net votes!)
as i’ve said before, if he would, i’d still vote for him.
Perry does have a great record for jobs and business growth,
and, i ESPECIALLY admire his effort on Tort reform,
against blood-sucking liberal lawyers !!!
THAT is what Perry supporters should be talking about!
If you are going to make these long winded attacks, please provide links to back up your comments. By the way, Perry never said anything about Romney’s religion. The pastor who introduced him at the values summit did later, not during the introduction. Perry said that he does not believe that the Mormon faith is a cult. You have posted this same garbage on other threads.
He refused to apologize or deny that Pastor.
Glad you approve newbie. You give yourself away by not knowing the players involved on this site. So when you clock out from campaign headquarters tonight be sure to give Gov Goodhair a big hug.
Trial lawyers prep for war on Perry Americas trial lawyers are getting ready to make the case against one of their biggest targets in years: Texas Gov. Rick Perry.
Among litigators, there is no presidential candidate who inspires the same level of hatred and fear as Perry, an avowed opponent of the plaintiffs bar who has presided over several rounds of tort reform as governor.
And if Perry ends up as the Republican nominee for president, deep-pocketed trial lawyers intend to play a central role in the campaign to defeat him.
Thats a potential financial boon to a president who has unsettled trial lawyers with his own rhetorical gestures in the direction of tort reform. A general election pitting Barack Obama and Perry could turn otherwise apathetic trial lawyers into a phalanx of pro-Obama bundlers and super PAC donors.

She pulled a reverse Muskie
“..it should be noted that Perry supporters are not engaging in vicious attacks against other candidates..”
At least not since Mr Perry’s numbers have been plummeting.
If Cain gains 2 or 3% and maintains it..I would hope Mr Perry would do the honorable thing and back Mr Cain.
Here is a pic of her at the Iowa Fair with a gentleman that approached her. (look at the expression on her face - yep - that is the look of someone with the God given gift of mercy)

She's just the ventriloquist.
No pretending here, Mittens is the only candidate I CAN’T support. I have an open mind and can still be swayed as to who I will support.
Perry can’t afford to insult voters he is trying to court.
Exactly-—having a strong wife like Lynne Cheney isn’t so bad. But when the Mrs. is trotted out and the voters start to notice that wifey is a stronger individual than hubby, that campaign has made a baaaad mistake.
