President Obama has deployed combat troops to central Africa to aid in the fight against the Lord's Resistance Army. In a letter to Speaker of the House John Boehner, Obama says 12 troops with "appropriate combat equipment" were deployed on October 12 and approximately 100 in total will be deployed including a second combat team and headquarters, communications and logistics personnel. The forces will provide information and advise and assist "select partner nation forces," Obama explains. The troops will not fight except in self-defense. The full letter is after the jump.

I checked, thinking this was semi-news, semi-satire. But it looks real. Is it real?
Yeah, I just heard that. Still, we have no national interest in Uganda. Our troops should not be sent there.
That is not what is happening over in Uganda, and Kony and the LRA are not Christians, though they claim to be. They are murderers, torturers, and rapists, that have no political goal except their own. They fight Muslims and Christians with equal venom.
Kony gathers around himself superstitious animist, pagan and Christian illiterates who follow him, personally. He is not fighting Muslims any more than Christians or other religious beliefs. He has been creating havoc in the country for 20 years, and is a very bad soul.
Don’t let people mislead you into thinking this guy is a Christian. He is not a crusader for anyone but himself.
Thanks, someone has pointed that out to me.
Do we have any links(not liberal) that could explain this group more fully? Regardless...I don’t believe we should be sending troups all over the planet on ‘humanitarian’ missions. This is what the liberals want to do under the guise of humanitarian gestures but it is actually all explained in Agenda 21. It’s the new world order that the marxist and commies want to use. Next stop....ISRAEL.
Don’t be fooled by any of it folks.
...There's another thread on this. And I thought that too when I tripped over the other. BHO "MUST" be removed from office immediately for all crimes!!!
I'm not saying I agree with it, just that it appears legal and consistent with Congress' intentions.
My daughter lived in Uganda and Rwanda and is fully familiar with the fear and trepidation the population lives under as a result of this group. They do not speak ill of him because he has informants all around the country, and people disappear forever after speaking ill of him.
Kony is a very superstitious sort who gathers around him animist, pagan and Christians who are disillusioned and mostly uneducated and illiterate. He is a cult following that has been involved in violence for years.
This man is not about ideology, he is about himself, rape, murder, torture, and kidnapping. The world would be better off without him.
I don’t know whether Obama’s actions are good or not, but anyone who stops the demon is a good thing.
Neither my daughter or I are liberals in any sense of the word.
Remember, this is the part of the world (Rwanda) where over one million people were killed under the Clinton Administration in the genocide, while the UN sat by and watched.
Obama sending combat troops to central Africa to get Fast and Furious out of the headlines. What did he know and when did he know it?
Our Idiot-In-Chief is trying to spread us thin, force instability within the ranks (DADT-repeal), cut our military funding and piss-off as many countries as possible - all at the same time. Can someone please, PLEASE, explain to me how this helps America in any way, shape or form?
This is the nost likely scenario, IMHO, because the LRA has been a fixture in Ugandan politics for years. Why now?
See my post at 47. You can read the congressional findings at the link I posted to the law that Congress passed in 2010 on our interest in removing the LRA.
That is how I read the LRA as well. It’s a perverse goup to say the least. Still, our troops have no business being there.
I can assure you that Obama’s motives are nefarious. If the guy has such a ragtag ‘cultish’ group..why can’t the people take care of this themselves? We can’t be running all over the planet doing humanitarian wars that have no US national security implications. What could possibly be our national security interests in Africa? I just don’t buy it at all.
I do not have much intel on the LRA, but I was merely suggesting that sending troops into Africa, without a very specific mission, is BEGGING for trouble. Mission creep occurs with frightening regularity and, with a politically troubled moron like we have in office right now (Somebody call AttackWatch.com!!!) we might have another really bad situation develop.
Furthermore, I have seen US citizens killed by Hamas and all Obama does is play footsie with them!
This is what I just heard Rush Limbaugh reporting too.
WTF?!? <<< By which I don't mean "Winning The Future"
Well, the Son of Sam meant well, too. At least he had the excuse of being crazy enough to believe God was speaking to him through a dog. 0bama, not so much.

[talk radio all over it Tuesday]
[and ... ] he wants to take oxygen from Herman Cain.
But then there’s the icing on the cake — kill Christians. Africa is swarming with homicidal brutes who worship Allah. But no ... only Christians.
Now the remaining concern is WTF are we doing involving our soldiers in a civil war in Uganda?
From Wikipedia...
The Lord’s Resistance Army (also Lord’s Resistance Movement or Lakwena Part Two) is a sectarian religious and military group, which operated in northern Uganda and Southern Sudan.
The group was formed in 1987 and until about 2007 it was engaged in an armed rebellion against the Ugandan government. It is led by Joseph Kony, who proclaims himself the “spokesperson” of God and a spirit medium, primarily of the Holy Spirit, which the group believe can represent itself in many manifestations.[4]
The group is based on apocalyptic Protestant Christianity,[5][6][7][8][9][10][11] but also is influenced[12] by a blend of mysticism[13] and traditional religion,[14] and claims to be establishing a theocratic state based on the Ten Commandments and local Acholi tradition.[4][15][16]
The LRA is accused of widespread human rights violations, including murder, abduction, mutilation, sexual enslavement of women and children and forcing children to participate in hostilities.[17]
The LRA used to operate mainly in northern Uganda and also in parts of South Sudan, Central African Republic and DR Congo.[18][19] The LRA is currently proscribed as a terrorist organization by the United States.[20][21]
In October 2011 President Barack Obama ordered the deployment of 100 U.S. troops to help hunt down the leaders of the Lord’s Resistance Army.[22]
