Last Friday, Rev. Robert Jeffress, the Dallas pastor who introduced Gov. Rick Perry at the Values Voter Summit, spoke derisively about the Mormon faith of Mitt Romney, making the case that Mormonism is a cult. Two days later, he chided Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism as false religions.
Last year, Rev. Jeffress said the Roman Catholic Church was the outgrowth of a corruption called the Babylonian mystery. He continued, Much of what you see in the Catholic Church today doesnt come from Gods word. It comes from that cult-like pagan religion. Isnt that the genius of Satan?
Catholic League president Bill Donohue offered these remarks today:
Where did they find this guy? When theological differences are demonized by the faithful of any religionnever mind by a clergymanit makes a mockery of their own religion. Rev. Jeffress is a poster boy for hatred, not Christianity.
—No, I disagree strongly. This is the kind of stuff that is inexcusable.—
I’ve been studying this stuff since the mid-1980’s. I’ve seen a lot of it. Some of them ARE nutcases, but others make strong claims that I happen to disagree with.
I cannot pass judgement on this guy until I read what he said in context as opposed to a couple of sentences out of context. He may be one of the crazies, but I’ve gotta see what his actual points were first.
Done with Perry? You haven’t been a Perry man to begin with. You know I have friends I consider a bit of a wacko, but they are friends. I haven’t adopted their beliefs in fact, I’ve tried to point out the error of their beliefs. Rubber stamping Perry cause he is a friend of this man is a bit strange. Perry didn’t ask this man to introduce him...the Values Voter Conference did.
(FWIW, seeing the Roman Catholic Church as a corruption of biblical/historical Christianity is not a fringe belief.)
Thank you. You just summed up what I was trying to say in multiple posts.
—Pope Bill Donohue?
Sanctum Peter Cotium
Deus ri hunnam

In suus via torreium
Lepis en ei sanctum
hippitus hoppitus reus domine—
Could you put that in english. I don’t read spanish.
If you haven’t been paying attention, the Mormon comments by Jeffress are making national headlines, and this will be soon be joining that.
I’m not crazy about either Perry or Romney, but I try to remember that a HUGE part of being president is MANAGING the ship-of-state. What we sometimes call “putting the grown-ups back in charge”. I think they both have the potential to be decent managers of the country, but I shure would prefer someone who shares my ideology, like Cain. This is why I think the two party system sucks. You wind up either being represented, or dissed, and even if the incumbent is the same party, he may not represent you.
Oh, and we need a lot more congressional districts than 435. Every time a new census comes out, each congresscritter represents more people, which means he represents each of them less.
—It may not be a fringe belief, but that doesn’t automatically make it a correct belief.—
It makes it a “debatable” belief. You know, kinda like someone’s belief in who should be president. ;-)
“(FWIW, seeing the Roman Catholic Church as a corruption of biblical/historical Christianity is not a fringe belief.)”
Indeed. Read the Westminster Confession of Faith, the standards for Biblically orthodox Presbyterian Churches.

Rev. Jeffress’s statements are rather mild in the history of the Protestant/Roman Catholic divide of the last five centuries.
Perry isn't backing down. Perry spokesman Mark Miner told the Associated Press Tuesday that Perry would not disavow Jeffress.
"The governor does not agree with every single issue of people that endorsed him or people that he meets," Miner said.
“I dont need to put up with anymore bigots who hate Catholics.”
Just like I don’t need to put up with bigots who hate Mormons! Neither has a place in a political debate!
The guy is probably a libtard. He assumes he is assured a place in heaven because he believes all the right things.
The audio is in my footer below the article.
Your post makes me wonder if we are seeing a further polarization along religious lines as implied in biblical prophesy about the end times. People are taking sides. Fewer and fewer are on the fence.
That is a Good Thing.
I’m Catholic, but I can’t get outrages about this. This guy has no effect on my life. But others do.
Considering that we protestants are a break away from the Catholic church...........hmmm. This guy sounds like a loon.

What you say about protestants may be true, but when you consider that the Catholic church is a break away from the Christian Church, then the guy starts to sound less loony, huh?
Plenty of 'em here, too. My old church is full of 'em - people who used to be our friends but shunned us when they learned of our conversion. Sad people, really.
Somebody forgot about "thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour".
The man is either a liar or an idiot.
Yes, but Perry won’t disavow him either. TADSLOS is correct.
Bill Donohue does more damage to Catholics than this chucklehead.
