While Cain is likely to hit a ceiling in the near future, he's effectively dug into Perry's base and helped expose the frontrunner's weakness. Fracturing the anti-Romney vote has made it all the easier for Romney to win.
With New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie out of the race, no one is competing with Romney for moderate Republicans.
Cain himself might not be too upset with that outcome. While he's been a frequent critic of Romney on the trail, he endorsed the tenuous front-runner in 2008.

False dichotomy.
What if Perry is the one who “hits a ceiling”. Maybe he already has hit his. Perry isn’t entitled to conservative votes and he doesn’t deserve them.
They are different faces of the same old Establishment GOP coin. The only reason Perry is in the race is to split the Tea Party/Conservative vote.
Perry is the Bush wing of the GOP. The social conservative/political moderate crony capitalist wing. Romney is the McCain/Dole wing the social liberal, political moderate crony capitalist wing of the GOP.
Perry vrs Romney is Bush vrs McCain 2000 all over again.

Please explain to us why I should be upset with Cain supporting Romney in 2008 when in 2008 Perry endorsed big government, anti gun pro abortion Rudy Giuliani?
In 2008, Romney at least was saying he had changed his positions on guns and abortion while Perry choose to endorse and out and out Liberal like Giuliani,
No, supporting Perry is supporting Romney.

By your stated standard Perry should now drop out. He is distant third in all the polls. So if the 3rd place finisher "throws it to Romney", Perry is the spoiler not Cain.

I knew you were a Perry supporter, so you have to try to Stop (or discredit) Herman Cain- No, Perry is NOT THE Credible alternative to Mitt Romney. I’ll go ONE better Rick Perry is Mitt Romney with less charisma, and more negatives as well. For the record, I don’t like either.
But you posting this in a Herman Cain thread (one with a negative vibe from the beginning) shows. PERRY BOTS; Just Stop!
Actually, I think Cain has a better chance at beating Obama than your average New York mayor. And a Mass Governor? That's a failed state already. Candidates from there are not to be taken seriously.
It’s not slander when you use the persons OWN words. If you don’t want to listen to the candidates. that’s your problem not mine.

Lelt me see if I have this right. If I vote for Caiin then Romney wins. If I vote for Perry then Perry wins. If I actually vote for Romney does that mean Cain wins?
B
I think you are, alas, right on target.
Your error is that the Republican primary voters are more liberal than you suspect and are easily fooled by the big media and the “it’s-his-turn” mentality.
“But you posting this in a Herman Cain thread (one with a negative vibe from the beginning) shows. PERRY BOTS; Just Stop!”
1. I am the original poster of the article.
2. The article pointed out that Cain will fracture the conservative vote, helping Romney win.
“Fracturing the anti-Romney vote has made it all the easier for Romney to win. “
3. It is true — like it or not, this race is between Romney and Perry. Conservatives aren’t likely to vote for Romney in the primary, so they either vote for Perry or someone else. When they vote for someone else, that’s fewer votes for Perry, hence Romney walks away with the nomination — this is what the article says and this is what I say. Simple logic.
Yes, I think you nailed it here.
“If Romney gets the nomination, then it will be McCain 2... Translation Obama gets another 4 years.”
Preaching to the choir!
One of my old taglines was “RomneyCare is Mitt’s Chappaquiddick”.
Currently Republican voters AND Democrat voters are far more Conservative than they've been since the time of Tiglethapilasar!
Look here now, everybody but everybody knows Perry is simply a stalking horse for Romney.
It's how the corporate socialist center-left stays in power.
Whoever said, "You get the government you pay for," had it right. Unless WE, the stingy conservatives, come up with the money, a conservative candidate doesn't stand a chance against the Party machine. The Democrats know it well, effectively TAXING union memberships for cash. This principle is particularly true in local elections, the "farm system" if you will. Conservatives look at the level of support they Party anointed have, sigh about the guy they'd rather have, and fall in line for fear of the Slave Party. If the conservative wins the nomination, the Party turns against them. If they fall in line, sometimes we even see the now famous Bob Dole RINO Swan Dive, where the moderate nominee throws the election after disposing of a conservative primary candidate. It is a pattern the Liberty Institute was set up to break.
This is why, when a conservative finally makes it to Congress, the first thing he or she does is to start a PAC, the classic examplar being DeMint. It's a sort of 'people's bootstrapping operation' and it's important. These successful interlopers then find candidates with a real chance to succeed against the Party machine. With enough of them, we can eventually take over the leadership. Whether it can be done in time is the real question.
The corporate RINOs will fight with everything they've got, because their Feder-ill feeding trough is at stake. Believe it or not, but there is actually as much opportunity to acquire votes from the left than there is from the center. When they see conservatives going after the corporatists on behalf of small business, it is actually attractive to them, but they just can't get past the idea that "freedom" is all about what one does with one's genitals.
This is where the social issues come in, because the "libertarian left" does not understand why conservative positions are important to them. The main reason for that is that conservatives lack the ability to articulate why their policy preferences work. I've spent quite a bit of time on a booklet to do precisely that, to teach conservatives the mechanics of liberty and to distill how libertarian economic principles combined with conservative social values actually solve, or more accurately, dissolve real social problems. Frankly, not being famous, I don't get much interest.
