Your Chicago Way read of the day comes from the Detroit News, where columnist Daniel Howes brings news that a few calls from the White House have led to Ford Motor Company yanking ads that spotlighted its refusal to take government auto bailout money.
The ad is no longer on the companys YouTube page.
Nice car company ya got there, fellas. Would be a shame if anything happened to it (h/t Is This Blog On, Cold Fury):
For the only Detroit automaker that didnt take the money of the federal auto bailouts, Ford Motor Co. keeps paying a price for its comparative success and self-reliant turnaround.

Good old Gangster Politics, Chicago Style.
Where is the ACLU on this? Ford needs their help in filing a Freedom of Speech Lawsuit.
Does anyone have an image of the pulled Ford ad? If so, please post it here!
Heck, it might even make a good bumper sticker, FR protest sign, happy birthday card, oh, the list seems endless!
Anyway, they sort of made a one-time exception with this, and I'll bet that Ford got calls from GM and Chrysler before the White House said anything. That being said, Ford's mission was accomplished. They already knew they had a lot of buyers opposed to the bailout, and this one ad just served to create a bit of controversy as a reminder. Regardless of whether the White House intervened or not, they weren't going to press the issue hard anyway.
Very well played by Ford, in retrospect. They could always blame this on "unscripted" consumer feedback, run the ad, and then withdraw it later.
ZerO’s thugs at work again.
Guess Obama made them an offer they couldn’t refuse.
Last year, I bought a designed and made in Texas by non-union hands 2010 Toyota Tundra CrewMax Limited 4x4... It’s absolutely awesome. It tows my 25’ Airstream trailer like it isn’t even there.
Oh come on. At least GM didn’t do bad things with our money like give the Commie Chinese the technology from the Volt.
What’s that, you say? GM did give the Commies our tax funded tech.
Oh crap.
I'm wondering if the options of adjustable pedals and a backup camera are available on the Tundra. I have a 4' 11" wife who tends to bang into stuff when she drives my trucks.

key quote
Fry is not talking about the DOE retooling loan, and Fords well publicized use of government loan guarantees. Fry found a $7 billion government check to Ford that was hidden from the publics eye. Well, not really, it was mentioned on page 18 of a document submitted by Ford to the Senate Banking Committee on December 2, 2008, but who reads that stuff?
Why don’t you trade her in for somthing a bit bigger; a 5’-5”, for example? ;-}
Are all Fords built in union plants today?
“That and the fact that the ‘50 is a DAMN good truck”.
...do you mean F-150, F-250 etc?
Ford is also getting some $$ thru the same slush fund that backed Solyndra and which keeps the Post Office afloat with billions in low interest loans, the Federal Financing Bank:

Fascism Lite - the big stuff comes later!
I don’t have any knowledge about “adjustable pedals”, but they do have things like backup cameras and sonar... mine does. When it come to hooking up to a trailer, the backup camera is great to have.
Ford’s ad was awesome. Really put American auto buyer’s sentiment on display. Guess baraq can’t stand for that then.
Interesting though is now the White Mosque is threatening Ford and now the UAW has passed the word to union heads at Ford Factories to begin forming strike committees and prepare their members for a strike against Ford.
Good for Ford! I will never buy a GM or Chrysler product again!
This administration is just a bunch of children. Ford should have told them to go to hell.
Why let Ford have all the fun, when we can tell ‘em GFY so well?
I’m particularly anticipating that Super Duper Double Max Sh**burger I’m going to serve up next election day.
