ORLANDO -- There's no scientific polling, but talks with dozens of delegates who will vote in today's Florida straw poll suggest that many are making last-minute decisions to vote for Herman Cain.
What seems to be happening is this: A lot of delegates came to Orlando planning to vote for Rick Perry. But Perry's poor performance at Thursday night's Fox News-Google debate gave them pause and re-opened the question of whom they will support. And many of the conservatives who were attracted to Perry will, when asked for a second choice, naturally gravitate to Cain, who, it just happens, had a particularly good debate on Thursday. So with Perry not commanding the loyalty he did just 48 hours ago, Cain appears to be picking up support.

Now, I'm really jealous of Jay Leno's White Motor Car.
Herman Cain has that intangible of likeability. His demeanor and his smile make him appear to be the good neighbor next door.
You are delirious. You should sit down and take a few deep breaths before you fall over and hit your head.
A FReeper asked what Cain's negatives were and I calmly and directly named what I thought were the top two. How on earth does this constitute "shameless demagoguery"?
Are you so stupid as to think Cain (a candidate polling below 5%) has no negatives? If not, what do you think they are?
Same here. I would love for him to win the nomination.
I think the assumption is the Cain was an effective corporate CEO and that this indicates he has the ability to be an effective President. If Herman Cain was as bad a corporate executive as Zero is a President I think the assumption is that Cain would never have gotten his second corporate position.
Spoken like an uninformed couch potato.
>>> Obama had some prior to initiating his 2008 campaign and now he has quite a lot more. These are facts. Emote elsewhere, dude.
So your defense of Perry over Cain is Obama????
>>> Emote elsewhere, dude.
Troll somewhere else dude.
Call out the kitties.
>And the perfect [candidate] should not be the enemy of the good.
Agreed.
I’m going to copy & paste my own quote from another thread regarding the current Republican hopefuls:
If they loved country more than their own selves and could see past winning the partys nomination, they would agree to try and top each other by condemning Obamas policies, rather than by slitting each others throats.
former Federal Reserve banker
Politics is a game of inches, not all or nothing Hail Mary heroic plays.
Don't make the perfect the enemy of the good.

How do you feel Palin compares with Cain, given that she’s got some political experience (vs. none for Cain) but no experience running a major corporation (vs. lots for Cain)? (As a related aside, my guess is that they’re about even regarding foreign policy knowledge or lack thereof, with perhaps a slight edge to Palin...and that Cain would induce fewer “broken glass” Dem voters).
>>> former Federal Reserve banker
That is a plus... especially considering the time and place of his service.
The FED was not always a negative influence on our economy.
They can’t. Because Zero is not really black.
Herman Cain is the grandson of slaves. Go to his website and watch some of his videos. The man is honorable, brilliant and kind.
He would make an outstanding President.
>>> You’re being an idiot....
>>> Such as having no idea what the phrase “right of return” referred to in the context of the Israeli-Palestinian dispute.
Very few people were familiar with that term until after it was used in an interview with Cain to try and make him look ignorant on Israel.
Most “politicians” would have faked their ignorance of the term with some generic response that implied they knew what it meant. Cain came right out and asked... and then followed up with his own research to gain knowledge on the issue.
Your use of a MSM gotcha tactic to defend your position is slightly pathetic.
Calling me an idiot doesn’t help your case either.
No media seems to give a rat’s rear-end about this guy... that is probably a good thing at this stage of the game. I think his name recognition will rise in prominence and when it does, the media will have to pay attention, and these good facts you mention will come to light. I think that if you don’t know him, you tend to think he is limited in his intellectual ability, because of his southern black style, we may call it provincial. However, nothing could be further from the truth. He is not only smart, he exudes a sense of elderly wisdom, which is something we need. He would be the first real black president, and I would cheer him on.
Yes. I’m not against Cain. He’d be a fine president. I just like Sarah more.
I’m not into the “Republican circular firing squad” bit.
“Thou shalt not speakest ill of thy fellow Republican.”
Makes all the sense in the world.

Well said! And it’s way too early to write him off.
IMHO, the press is who ultimately nominates and puts up the candidate they want, not the people. Herman Cain is heads above all those on stage other than Bachmann & Santorm. Cain, Bachmann & Santorm are all too conservative for the press to swallow which is why all the publicity is for Perry and Romney who are RINOS. I will vote for Herman Cain and he does not win, will pray the winner in Nov 2012 finds a place in his cabinet for a fine, intelligent, fiscally strong republican who is will to roll up his sleeves and get down to the business of turning this country around. 9-9-9 is a good plan, a winner that will work if given the chance.
