Obama Administration to Ban Asthma Inhalers Over Environmental Concerns 3:00 PM, Sep 23, 2011 By MARK HEMINGWAY Single Page Print Larger Text Smaller Text Alerts
Remember how Obama recently waived new ozone regulations at the EPA because they were too costly? Well, it seems that the Obama administration is would rather make people with Asthma cough up money than let them make a surely inconsequential contribution to depleting the ozone layer:
Asthma patients who rely on over-the-counter inhalers will need to switch to prescription-only alternatives as part of the federal government's latest attempt to protect the Earth's atmosphere.
The Food and Drug Administration said Thursday patients who use the epinephrine inhalers to treat mild asthma will need to switch by Dec. 31 to other types that do not contain chlorofluorocarbons, an aerosol substance once found in a variety of spray products.
The action is part of an agreement signed by the U.S. and other nations to stop using substances that deplete the ozone layer, a region in the atmosphere that helps block harmful ultraviolet rays from the Sun.
But the switch to a greener inhaler will cost consumers more. Epinephrine inhalers are available via online retailers for around $20, whereas the alternatives, which contain the drug albuterol, range from $30 to $60.
The Atlantic's Megan McArdle, an asthma sufferer, noted a while back that when consumers are forced to deal with environmentally friendly products they're are almost always worse:
When you’re in the fetal position and turning blue, just think of the polar bears and dune sagebrush lizard you’re saving.
Well if some of them are Democrats and voted for Barry maybe now they’ll wake up although they’ll probably pass out first.
Yep. I have mild asthma and only occasionally have an attack. The docs don’t give me a scrip because the attacks are so infrequent, that they just say buy this OTC.
This reg is disgusting.
Not a day goes by that this bunch doesn’t do something to make me want to pull my hair and scream.
This is insane. Bammy and Co. banning “breathalyzers”
I think his kids use breathalyzers.
I despise these people. They are foul beyond imagination.
Obama hates black people.
The genocide has begun!
I have asthma that has been brought completely under control by using Pulmicort. I haven’t needed my rescue inhaler in more than 3 years but my doctor still prescribes albuterol just in case. With health insurance it runs me about $18 per canister.
Words fail me.
I was ready to ask John Semmens why he was posting satire under Breaking News!
But there's also this:
But the switch to a greener inhaler will cost consumers more. Epinephrine inhalers are available via online retailers for around $20, whereas the alternatives, which contain the drug albuterol, range from $30 to $60.
A look at any money trails sourced from the maker of albutrol might be revealing.
Oh hell yes he would. He is the elite ruler and his family and friends would be excepted. FUBO & FAD
its called elitism.
My asthma at one time was completely under control, thanks to Serevent Inhaler. Then they took the inhaled version off the market (to save the ozone layer) and replaced it with a dry powder piece of crap that you literally have to suck into your lungs. It's only about half as effective as the inhaled version. I now rely much more frequently on my albuterol inhaler, but even that has been rendered less effective by the elimination of CFCs as a propellent.
You know, I click on these headlines, and I think, this will be one of these “semi-satire” deals. Nope, it’s real.
But what about the asthma breathalyzers!! Are they still legal???

I don’t understand. These are INHALERS and you INHALE the CFCs along with the medication, right? So, how does that affect the damn Obozo...er, Ozone layer?
CFC Albuterol has been generic for years. These new inhalers are still under patent, though. Also, this goes back to the Bush years, believe it or not.
Good catch!
Asthma here, too, now I guess I’ll have to be like some illegal and go to the ER.
