As Rick Perry Stumbles, Rick Santorum Rises
IBD's Capital Hill ^ | 9/23/2011 | Ed Carson

After three debates, the consensus among conservative commentators is that GOP frontrunner Rick Perry is getting worse, not better. That's good news for Mitt Romney, who has been closing the gap with Perry in recent days. Intrade now sees the ex-Massachusetts governor as the most likely Republican nominee.

But it’s also good for Rick Santorum, the former Pennsylvania senator. He now may emerge from the long list of second-tier candidates.

Romney should be an easy target.

Both Rick’s should simply drop out and take Romeny with them.

The three are all Democrat Lite GOP Establishment bots. They are utterly unfit to lead at this time.

We need real, tough leadership and all these three are offering is more of the same.

Santorum’s not going anywhere.

He comes across as a whiner.

It doesn't matter what the reality is; his demeanor is offputting.

I can see why he lost his last election.

It’s a shame that the smartest candidate can’t even get into the debates. He’s not exactly Mr. Excitement, but I’m for McCotter.

That was Paul, not Cain.

I think he may have the best slogan:

I like Santorum and if by some sort of miracle he won the nomination I’d have no problem voting for him

I like Santorum better than all of them. Unfortunately, he lacks an important ingredient - gravitas. Here’s the gravitas meeter:

Rick Santorum = 45%
Perry = 95%
Romney = 93%
Bachmann = 75%
Cain = 90%
Huntsman = 70%
Palin = 72%
Paul = 65%

Perry is still a great candidate. I live in Texas, and I know the difference between an illegal immigrant, a legal immigrant, and a kid who may have never even been to Mexico in his life. Don’t judge Rick by the ASSumptions of a few folks on here.....

There is nothing substantial against Rick Perry except in the imaginations of those whom no one will ever be good enough. Remember, there are trolls on this site that have been here since the site began, there are anarchists here, and just plain grouches.
Perry has made a few mistakes, no one could possibly hold office as long as he has here in Texas without making any.
There is a real good chance that Rick Perry will be our next President, and I’m fine with that. I’d still vote for Palin, too. Either one would be fine with me.

santorum has risen above 1% ?

lol

The only thing santorum is going to be rising too, is rising to get up to the podium to give his concession speech.

Rick Santorum, seems like a very nice fellow with strong values and faith. The one item that I can't overlook is his neo-conservatism. He would keep sending our troops into “undeclared” wars and keep them in these Godless foreign entanglements for ever.

In the twilight of my life, I find myself becoming more and more a Fortress America type. We need to get our military out of the mid-east and many of the other places around the world. The people we say we are helping in the mid-east will return to their tribal hatreds and blood feuds the moment we leave, either today or another 10 years from now.

Rick is just wrong on that issue and it is an important issue enough for me not to support him, nor any other candidate that would send our troops into combat without the Constitutionally required Declaration of War, initiated by Congress and signed off on by the President.

More than you probably wanted to read, but felt like getting it off my chest since you believe Rick isn't going anywhere anyhow. Thanks for allowing me to vent. /;->

I'd love to see Santorum get into that first tier.

Go Rick!
