My youngest daughter worked across the street from Tower II. It was her first job after graduating from college that past June. I was in midtown that day, and was actually planning to meet her, and two of her college roomates for lunch at the South Stret Seaport. My birthday in 9/10, and they were taking me out for a belated lunch.

When we first saw the reports of the planes hitting the tower...phone service..both landline and cell, was intermittent because of the heavy volume. I'd been trying for an hour to reach her..but no luck. About 30 minutes after the first plane hit...they started to evacuate her building...she was on the 23rd floor..they walked down...she was about halfway down when they cancelled it, and told them all to go back to their offices...as she was starting back up, I got through to her on her cell...I told her to leave, do not go back.. go down, get out, and start walking north..we later met near Canal Street..I had to walk most of the way down from from Grand Central. As she exited her building, and started to head across the plaza..some of the bodies were landing. Several were quite close to her and others, before they started roping the whole area off and keeping people away as they left the victimns..

The past decade has bee difficult for her..she got help to deal withe the trauma...is still on some meds, and has tuned down a few jobs that would have had her working in skyscrapers...

I can’t imagine the horror people lived through that day. Well, maybe I can imagine, I just can’t relate or something. I have burned a finger or other parts of my body. Nothing major. The pain is primal and deep. Enough to make me react quicker than I can do anything. To have that pain potentially over my entire body...

About once a year, when I'm fed up with this nonsensical world, I watch Lonesome Dove. It will not be this weekend, but I gave thought yesterday after Obama’s malaise speech. I hope the media does not make a muck over this solemn memorial, day of remembrance, and day of reinvigorating our fight against evil.

Wow, what a story, Ken. It’s great she has gotten some help, but your daughter needs to understand God was with her that day and he has a purpose for her that she needs to find. She also needs to know she has to actively make a choice to use this experience as a stepping stone for her life purpose. It is her choice.

It sounds she is lucky to have a Dad like you who can give her loving support.

I don't watch television, but you are right. Sports makes for a nice diversion. I just have to avoid the radio and keep away from 9-11 related posts and news on the net. I just can't take it.

It's amazing. It's like a campfire the next morning. Looks like it's out, but stir the ashes around and it's still hot with glowing embers. Hard to believe how close to the surface the raw emotions remain. But then, it doesn't feel like it's been 10 years.

My lady and I will go out hiking and birdwatching and my head will be clear. Have a nice weekend.

Thanks for your response. I too will get out...going for a good walk shortly, enjoy the beautiful weather this morning here in the great Upstate of South Carolina. Then, watch the men’s semifinals of the U.S. Open (GO ROGER!)...steaks on the grill this evening, church tomorrow and a work function later Sunday afternoon/evening. Want to keep myself busy. Not because I don’t care, but because I DO...don’t want to deal with the heartache, sadness of it all. Still hard to believe it’s been 10 years already. Life’s days are getting shorter, seem to go by much quicker than they used to. Need to make the most of the days we have here on this earth, making a difference in the lives of others. I will forever hate the monsters who instigated the circumstances that forced my fellow Americans to have to make such a decision. Whether it was suicide or not doesn't matter, as I know they are comforted in the arms of a loving Creator.
