Perry vs. Paul: A Texas-sized war
Washington Times ^ | 9/8/11 | Steven Dinan

SIMI VALLEY, Calif. — The scrap between Rick Perry and Mitt Romney may have gotten more attention in Wednesday’s presidential candidates debate, but it was tame compared to the dust-up between Mr. Perry and Rep. Ron Paul, two Texans who apparently have spent plenty of time digging up dirt on each other and aren’t afraid to use it.

At one point when the video cameras weren’t rolling — though the incident was caught by still photographers — Mr. Perry walked over Mr. Paul’s lectern, took hold of the congressman’s wrist and wagged his finger at him.

The physical exchange was matched by the intensity of the two men’s verbal attacks on each other.

Who was a Republican for more years before running for POTUS, Reagan or Perry?

You think Perry was bullying RoPaul? That he takes Paul seriously?

Look. Perry was just sending a message to ANYONE and EVERYONE including Obama: That if they want to engage a real TEXAN - then this is what they can expect.

Paul was just being used as a message. And we Texans are not apologizing for our governor’s tough stand on stage.

This is an intellectual debate, not Wednesday Smackdown.

So-called 'Intellectual debates' happen all of the time on the floor of Congress and the MSM. How's that working out for you?

Bring on a Wednesday smack-down.

Wow, I totally don’t hate Perry. You should check my posting history for evidence of this. I think he is more than likely going to be the next POTUS, and I’m happy about that. I grew up in Texas. Perry is doing a great job as Gov.

I just can’t understand why the others on stage didn’t go after him.

The finger in the face is a very aggressive act.

Perry's expression and body language confirm the intent.

Essentially, it shows Perry lost it and reveals something about his character. "Strong" and "bully" are not the same thing. Perry's action was not Presidential at all.

(BTW: I grew up in a small town in Oklahoma, just north of the Texas border. Where I come from, what Perry did would result in a fight.)

Better a bully than an old senile coot who thinks it’s OK for Iran to have nukes.

Grabbing someone and wagging a finger up close to his face like that is the act of a brute picking a fight.

If anyone did that to you, you would know he was being physically threatening. You would feel it.

Brutality is the last refuge of a failed debater and a second class intellect. In physical combat it might make sense, but not in civilized political debate. Perry was acting like a loser jerk.

Funny none of this was mentioned last night and if it had really been an issue those MSNBC talking heads would have gladly pointed it out.

Ron Paul was on the MSNBC wrapup and never mentioned it.

Someone snapped a photo and is trying to make hay out of a non issue.

Remember some accused Bush of having a hidden microphone under his clothes during a debate with Kerry and they produced a photo that seemingly showed a bulge under his coat?

I guess this is all they got to swing at Perry today.

The Democrats will be running two candidates in 2012 if Ron Paul runs. That way, they can’t lose!

Questions:

1. How do we know Ron Paul didn’t start it?

2. Do we know the tone of the conversation?

3. Isn’t Perry’s body language here similar to typical Southern style “he’s an idiot, bless his heart” types of comments?

Who was a Republican for more years before running for POTUS, Reagan or Perry?

Different eras.

Being a Democrat (as a private citizen) during the New Deal is a LOT different than being an elected Democrat DURING the Reagan Revolution.

Texas can be found generally physical and affectionate. Actually, touch is more a gesture of respect. Paul’s own non-plussed reaction makes my point. Ron gets it. A “ grab “? Hardly. More like inflatement by
anti-Perry baiters. That’s ok. Looks like he’s going all the way to me.

Someone acting like an idiot? I don't think so. GW would never have done this, not any other real Texas man I know. This is not presidential behavior.

As we both know, people living else where many many times are jealous of Texas and Texans. So they display that through cussing at us. ;o)

Actually when Ron Paul supporter puts full page ads out trying to dig up dirt on Perry in order to destroy him and his family, and Paul never repudiates it, is grounds for a severe ass whooping.
