Poll: Republican Voters Say Palin Should Stay Out of Race (66% Tea Party voters agree)
Wall Street Journal ^ | Sept. 2, 2011 | Danny Yadron

Posted on 09/03/2011 11:10:52 AM PDT by Clairity

Two-thirds of self-described tea party voters said Ms. Palin should not run for president, and 71% of all GOP voters said Ms. Palin should remain on the sidelines. Expand the survey to the entire electorate, and 74% don't think she should run.

Ms. Palin still placed third in a survey of GOP primary voters, polling at 8% behind Mitt Romney with 18% and Texas Gov. Rick Perry with 26%.

Draw your own conclusions.

O.K. My conclusion is that the left is scared witless by the very thought of a Sarah Palin candidacy and the Republican establishment feels the same way. These polls are intended to (a) discourage Palin and her supporters and, (b) set up the 'too divisive'/'she can't possibly win' meme the media will push the instant Palin announces her candidacy. If she doesn't run, the same MSM will crow that they 'pushed Palin out of the GOP primary race', exposing their real goal with these constantly negative polls. Too late, then. However, I trust that Sarah Palin will make her decision on her own timetable, not the timetable of the MSM, Karl Rove, Charles Krauthammer, Dick Morris or people posting on FR that already back other Republican candidates. If Palin runs, everything changes and the naysayers will be ignored, if not silenced. I can hardly wait.

I remember when the candidates would not announce until after Election Day in the prior year. In this era of instant communication, why is it necessary to announce your intentions a full fourteen months before the elections?

Interesting take (about the same as mine, BTW). Also heard, that some "deep thinker," aka beltway pundits talking to one another, stating that "Palin wasn't going to run," as she had done none of the "groundwork" of setting up state committees, had fundraisers and no doubt, "political advisers" telling her what and how to run a campaign = therefore, she wasn't "running."

I've also noticed that the same folk inside the beltway and across the fruited plain, stating that Cheney doesn't think she'd either run, get the nomination or elected, can't remember which. This came from his statement that he wasn't sure if he knew the reasons for her early resignation of her governorship. (Coming from the same folk who detest Cheney, refer to him as "Darth Vader," etc. this is rich.)

Considering that Cheney was going through some pretty rough patches of his heart ailment, surgery, medically induced coma and recovery, I'm not surprised he was not ble to learn through the media clutter that Palin stated that she chose not to bankrupt her state having to defend her from all of the frivolous lawsuits, she believes that her responsibility to the people of Alaska was NOT to spend their tax dollars to pay her legal bills.

A poll? Like in a phishing poll? Where you phish the poll until you get the results you want?

"If the TEA Party and the Republicans keep this up they will drive the Independents right into the Democrats' open arms."

Pffttt!

No he was in his state LEADING AND NOT QUITTING.

She quit because she was hit with over 200 frivolous ethics complaints, every single one of which she won.

She wasn't rich then, and like most Americans, hundreds of thousands of dollars of legal bills would have financially destroyed her family. That's what Democrats do... use the legal system to destroy their enemies.

Rick Perry would have had his legal fees taken care of.

Give me somebody to whom a few hundred thousand dollars is a lot of money.

We've tried rich guys like Perry before, and we'll get the same result.

The more Palin waits, the more her polls go down. She should have announced for president right after helping the Republicans win the last election. She should have focused on the issues with her powerful charisma. With persistence and courage she could have proved she is of presidential timber.

I disagree. Had Sarah Palin announced that she was running for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination in November, 2010, she would be campaigning for two straight years. The cost, both financial and physical, would be unbearable. By now, she would be considered 'old news' and the critics that now castigate Palin for supposedly 'waiting too long' (in their opinion, not hers) would be complaining that she 'started way too soon'. I'm convinced that most of those critics would never vote for Sarah Palin no matter when she declared her candidacy.

Instead she has been wandering all over the place. Will she run, or won’t she? No wonder her polls go down.

She has hardly been 'wandering'. Sarah Palin has been keeping a high profile (and leading the media around by the nose) so if and when she announces, it will receive maximum coverage. The polls are hardly an accurate reflection of Palin's popularity as will be obvious if and when she announces her candidacy. If Sarah Palin decides not to run (doubtful at this point) the date she announces that decision will be mostly irrelevant to an election 14 months away.

I don’t believe in polls. As Sarah said on C-Span today, polls are for strippers and cross-country skiers.

You should be ashamed of yourself, for that comment.

The truth is, Sara did far more work, as a Governor, than Obama ever did as a Senator.

Obama had to resign his Senate seat, did he not?

'self described tea party'

Right there I know this is a useless poll. Every person I know that is a tea party member would love, love, love to see Sarah get in the race. This is just media BS.

I wonder how many times they posed the same question to Perry, Huntsman, Paul, and the Three Stooges?

I will be the first to say you were all right.

What will you say if she lets you all down and I’m right?

You guys will never admit it and possibly sit on the sidelines and pout.

It is more than BS. It is Scott Rassmussen pandering to his “CRONY CAPITALIST” clients! Has he ever posed that same survey question against any other candidate? If he’s only chosen PALIN, then you have to ask “why? only Palin”. The FEAR. The FEAR they all have of this woman. Can’t wait till she declares, because when she does, we WILL NOT TAKE ANY PRISONERS in this campaign. We will expose every demagogue, crony capitalist, and RINO that’s looking to hoodwink this country.
