Poll: Republican Voters Say Palin Should Stay Out of Race (66% Tea Party voters agree)
Wall Street Journal ^ | Sept. 2, 2011 | Danny Yadron

Posted on 09/03/2011 11:10:52 AM PDT by Clairity

Two-thirds of self-described tea party voters said Ms. Palin should not run for president, and 71% of all GOP voters said Ms. Palin should remain on the sidelines. Expand the survey to the entire electorate, and 74% don't think she should run.

Ms. Palin still placed third in a survey of GOP primary voters, polling at 8% behind Mitt Romney with 18% and Texas Gov. Rick Perry with 26%.

To: who knows what evil?

Senator Obama, Senator Harding — both brief Senators and both disasters as president — got lucky.

I don’t think Palin will get lucky. If she had stayed in Alaska, using her abundant talents to be a good governor, she would have had a better chance in the long run to be prez.

. . . and the reality of what the majority of voters really believe hits them in the face.

What the "majority" of voters really believe is predicated on the lies manufactured and spread by the DBM and the SNL crowd ("I can see Russia from my house" is a line uttered by Tina Fey on SNL, NOT Gov. Palin!). So far, to the best of my knowledge, Sarah has remained true to her convictions and has shown the only courage that conservatives have seen in ANY political figure.

But, if Gov. Palin is sooooooooo unpopular, why does she draw such big crowds when she speaks?? If she is sooooooooo unpopular, why are the DBM and the Obamabots so eager to discredit and destroy her?? And, if she is SOOOOOOOOOO unpopular, why does the DBM follow and report on her every act (such as the recent bus trip through New England and her trips to Iowa)?????

Enquiring minds, my FRiend, enquiring minds . . . . . .

(where there's smoke, there's a huge fire burning through the DNC and the Obama camp!)

Only a moron would resign in the middle of her term and then run for president.

Read her book "Going Rogue" and get back to us.

(I could tell you the answer, but I want you to do the research and find out for yourself. As long as we treat political elections like popularity contests, we will continue to get more Obamas, Clintons and Carters (Obama lite) in the WH than real leaders with real ethics and convictions!

She had an abundance of charisma and intelligence, millions of devoted followers, and was riding on the wave of the future (the Tea Party). And she had a very good job.

No matter what her excuses, she did not have to resign. There was no gun to her head. She just up and quit.

Let's keep things in numerical and logical perspective.

Three million people is a huge number of people. No doubt about it. However, in all of the United States, that is only 1% of the entire population.

Thirteen million people is a huge number of people. No doubt about it. However, in all of the China, that is only 1% of the entire population.

What we are talking about is "popular enough to be elected President of the United States", not "popular enough to fill up a large auditorium".

To get elected President, you need to attract numbers in the tens of millions, not numbers in the tens of thousands.

America is a country of 300 million. Even if only 1% of that total thought that you were fantastic, you would have 3 million people thinking that you were fantastic.

The Grateful Dead, Lady Gaga and even Charlie Sheen can draw big crowds. That does not mean that they have a following in the tens of millions needed to get elected President of the United States.

As far as being attacked, the Democrats will attack the most visible target and the easiest target.

That was why Dan Quayle was attacked and attacked and attacked by the Democrats. The Democrats then use that unpopular person as the face of the enemy "The GOP - The Party of Dan Quayle". We did the same thing with Anthony Weiner: Attack, attack, attack .... And then make sure we point out that Anthony Weiner was a Democrat.

As far as why the press follows her, it it obvious: Because any Sarah Palin story boosts ratings.

Why does the media flock to any Charlie Sheen meltdown?

Because any Charlie Sheen story boosts ratings.

Why did the media obsess about Casey Anthony for month after month after month?

Because any Casey Anthony story boosted ratings.

Why did the media obsess about Natalie Holloway for month after month after month?

Because any Natalie Holloway story boosted ratings.

Is Sarah Palin a media sensation that can boost ratings just like a Charlie Sheen meltdown or a Lindsey Lohan arrest or a Lady Gaga meat dress? Yes, even more so than any of them.

That, however, has nothing to do with the fact that 75% of all voters in he August FOX News Poll do not believe she would be a good President.

Do a large number of Republicans like Sarah Palin?

Yes. That, however, has nothing to do with the fact that most Republicans think that she should not run for President.

Sean Hannity asks a Republican crowd in Iowa, "Do You Want Sarah Palin To Enter The Presidential Race?"

Personally, I wish that Sarah Palin WOULD run so that Real World competition can decide the issue and get it over with.

My beef with the "Palin Thing" is that, to many, a blind following of Palin has become more important than actually defeating Obama. As one Palin supporter posted on Free Republic about three days ago, "If Sarah does not get it, Obama can have it".

From the sounds of your rant, you seem to have a couple of burrs under your saddle. First, one poster putting something on this forum does not speak for all of us. If he/she/it wants to let Obama have it if Palin doesn't get the nomination, take it up with that poster. He/she/it speaks only for him/her/itself.

You seem to miss the point that following Palin could actually lead to the defeat of Obama. There has been so much hyperbole manufactured about Sarah Palin, those who have never looked into her past have no clue what the truth is about her, they're simply willing to go along with whomever the DBM selects for us. FWIW, Romney won't get the nomination and Perry probably won't, either.

Your serve.

No matter what her excuses, she did not have to resign. There was no gun to her head. She just up and quit.

Therein lies the problem with the mertican political system. We're unaccustomed to politicians who have an ounce of character and ethics. Gov. Palin didn't "just up and quit", she resigned her post as a matter of concience and honor. Following here introduction on the national stage by Sen. McCain, She became a target of those (Dems) who are terrified that she can defeat the most incompetent POTUS in our history. There was one individual in the state of Alaska who filed suit after suit (all frivolous) and complaint after complaint against her related to every aspect of her political career. In accordance with the laws of the state, each suit and each complaint must be thoroughly investigated to determine if there were any merit to the action. What Gov. Palin did was resign her position as a matter of concience rather than throwing increasing amounts of resources and taxpayer money to fight each of the actions this one individual filed. It was a growing distraction that consumed significant amounts of her time as governor answering official inquiries from the various investigators and kept her from attending to the business she was elected to handle.

Realizing that she was fighting an uphill battle that was encouraged and sponsored by Obama's dirty tricks machine, she took the honorable route and resigned. You might recall from the '08 election that as soon as She became McCain's runni ng mate, Obama sent ~30+ attorneys to Alaska to dig up dirt on her. They walked away with nothing. However, with some spin and a complicit media, they managed to try to make something out of nothing about the state trooper firing and something about banning library books.

Until the truth came out and it was shown that there was no there, there. You mightr want to reconsider your opinion about her.

I think the world of Sarah Palin. She has just about everything — enormous creativity (Mama Grizzlies, death panels), talent, intelligence, conservative pro-life beliefs, integrity, beauty — and a unique ability to connect with crowds.

But I — as a stauch Tea Party conservative — worry about her steadfastness in office. She could have hung in there in Alaska. She was facing only ankle-biter stuff. The threat was not impeachment or indictment or an assassin’s bullet.

Surely the pit bull hockey mom could have swatted off a few pesky flies.

Surely the pit bull hockey mom could have swatted off a few pesky flies.

It wasn't an issue of "pesky flies", it was the growing issue of the time and state assets and money. Each suit and complaint required an investigation and it required a team of people to cull through emails and state documents to redact non-public information plus analyze whether or not she had misused any of the state's resources while in office. That wasn't just a one time occurence, that was an every single suit and complaint thing. There were over 250,000 emails alone that some staffer or investigator had to go through to see if there was any substantiation for the suit or complaint.

The suits/complaints were being received on an almost daily or weekly basis. In addition to the people culling emails and state documents, there were official questionnaires or interviews between her and an investigator to answer to the charges. When she started looking at the amount of state and personal money being spent on these frivolous charges with state attorneys and her own personal attorney, she reached a point where she felt enough was enough. There were better things that could be done both with the state's money and resources these charges were consuming.

Since the charges were of a political nature and being levied solely at her and not a state agency or employee, she felt that the best thing for the state would be for her to step down so that her successor, the Lt. Gov., could focus on the needs of Alaska and not have to worry about the next frivolous complaint coming in on any given day.

I don't believe that she made that decision easily or without a great deal of thought and prayer. I have been in a similar situation with a job at a company and it took me several months to decide to make a change in my status at this company. The pressure was unrelenting and it was starting to take a toll on my health and I just felt that a job simply wasn't worth the risks to my health. I'm sure that Gov. Palin felt that she was not being true to the voters in Alaska who elected her to office, nor was she able to provide 100% of her attention to focus on her responsibilities as governor. As someone who has deeply rooted values, conscience and a commitment to her constituents, I don't doubt that these issues weighed heavily on her.

We have become so accustomed to the corruption of our political system and its practitioners that we don't know how to handle a politican with ethics and honor. We're simply immune to it and our cynicism makes us believe that there must be more to the story if a politician willingly steps down from public office. Sarah put the needs and responsibilities of the state ahead of her personal goals and ego. And, because of that, people think she is a flake who just walked away from the job one day.

Remember that all of the charges, mud and other crud thrown at her has proven to be false and without merit. Every single one. And, yet, people oppose her running for POTUS because they don't know the full story, haven't researched her and don't believe that anyone has the type of honor that she would bring to the office.

The President of the United States of America should not only be a role model, he or she should be someone that we truly want our kids to emulate. Whom do you want your kids to emulate, Barack Obama or Sarah Palin? Bill Clinton or Ronald Reagan? The people whom your children choose to admire, emulate and look up to have a lot to do with what America will look like in 30 years. Do you want America to look like Obama's "vision" of America, or Gov. Palin's??

She resigned because of the “issue of time and state assets and money?” Nothing is more costly, time-consuming and risky to a state government than losing a good governor in midterm. Nothing she can say or do will explain that away.

Every leader makes mistakes. Bill Clinton had Monica, possibly the stupidest thing a Rhodes scholar has ever done. Even the great Ronald Reagan had Iran-Contra and came closer to impeachment than many people realize.

Palin is still young and inexperienced — and has plenty of time to come back. Instead of whining about Katie Couric being a mean girl, Palin should do what Clinton did when he was young and arrogant governor in Arkansas. He lost his governorship, painfully acknowledged his mistakes to the voters, buckled down and came back strong. And the rest is history.

Palin can do it too.

If she were honest, she would admit that it was a mistake to quit halfway through.

Where does one find a listing of TEA party voters to ask such questions?

In the Wall Street Journal’s online Political Diary, editorial-page editor Paul Gigot comments on Sarah Palin:

“Ms. Palin might have been a contender. Had she finished her job as governor, devoted a year or two to learning what she didn’t know about the world and economics, built a network of support around the country, and developed a thicker skin about the media, she might now be a formidable candidate.

Instead, she chose to be a media celebrity and to play hard-to-get as a candidate. The best thing she could do for her reputation at this point would be to declare once and for all that she isn’t running, and then work to support whoever is the GOP nominee.”

The only kind of tea party member is a self-described one.

Palin would be a great third party candidate with an actual chance to win.

I respect your opinion, but I think you are too hung up on thisone issue. We can discuss this for the rest of time and not change one another’s minds about Gov. Palin. I look at people’s actions versus the words, regardlss of whether they are that person’s words or the words that others say about them.

Gov. Palin’s actions are consistent with her words. She has never waivered from the things that she says. When you examine all of the candidates’ words versus their actions, Gov. Palin’s actions simply support everything she stands for. You can’t say the same thing about the others in the field.

Thanks for a good discussion. I wish you well.

Thank you.

I hope Palin runs for president this month. She could add a lot to the race. She is by far the best campaigner on the Republican side. She would be a great candidate, even if quitting her job as governor does hurt her chances overall.
