It's a hurricane, not Armageddon. Good grief. A Category 1 storm, you'd think "Irene" was the worst storm America has ever endured.

I’ve been thru numerous real hurricanes. Of course I’m in the south so those don’t count.
They sure are trying....The MSM, fed administration and every state, city and local town is milking this one to show off how much "betterer" they are at handling a storm than "Bush" (of course Nagin was just a puppet of Bush/sarc)
Tornadoes are bad, high winds are bad, heavy rains are bad - unfortunately they happen....they knew this to be a Cat-1 - it's way overblown for most of the panicked population.
Yes, there are people in harms way but this is way over the top - Last night I was listening to shelter openings for the state of Connecticut - pretty much every town had one - it was like a bad snowstorm school closing list where it would have been easier to name the towns that didn't have shelters opened and manned.
This Cat-1 is going to cost a lot of money.
I can't wait for Barry to take command control of a snow storm(with some areas having heavy cumulative snow)......*thud*

You know, there is something called a remote control where you can change the channel. Try using it and let those of us in areas potentially impacted by record flooding get news of such.
We had all of that in about a six hour span last week where I’m at and that was on top of the summer long flooding of the Missouri river which is still well above flood stage. It’s called bad weather, not the end of the world as the media and politicians are portraying it.
Matt Lauer was wondering why JFK was so slow to reopen since there were patches of blue sky. LOL.
I’m on Boston’s North Shore and we’re not getting much of anything yet. Maybe there will be 40-60mph wind gusts later. We get those from “nor’easters” or sometimes a bad thunderstorm. At least where I am it’s probably drizzle and 10 mph winds...now.
Boston TV in particular has done storm-alarm stuff for years, especially snow storms/ blizzards. Ch 4 reporter Shelby Scott, now retired, used to be sent out in the storm to show how bad it was. And the snow seemed kinda deep but then again
Shelby was probably 5 feet even on a good day, so maybe it seemed a big exaggerated.

Yes, we’ve had more than a few of those, too. Difference is that they’re usually over in a few minutes.
Last month we had no power for almost two days after one of those storms.
Hell must have frozen over though: tolls on the Mass Pike and bridges are waived till 10 pm (I’ll bet they’ll change their minds by late afternoon once the storm’s over and bring them back)

Let's look at that number. Many weren't really hurricane deaths at all, but stupidity deaths. Two were swimming and surfing in rough waters in Florida - stupid. One was killed in a traffic accident because the signal was out and they weren't paying attention - stupid. The kid was out in the storm where he shouldn't have been - parents stupid. Three were killed when they went outside and got hit with falling limbs and trees - stupid.
The last three were those whose deaths could be truly be blamed on the hurricane - they were inside their homes and were killed when trees fell on their houses. That's it. I hear of one or two folks getting killed any time we have a strong thunderstorm come through.
I'm right in the middle of the storm's path in New Jersey. We got a lot of rain last night, some flooding, and a very little bit of wind. This ain't no catastrophe.
I lived in Clearwater (4 yrs} and Naples (26yrs) and I was never in a full fledged Hurricane. I remember when Donna went through Fla but it missed where I was(Clearwater), it did hit Naples and yrs afterwards, when things slowed down you could hear the phrase “ we need another Donna”. Obviously it helped the economy fixing up the damage done.
Agnes was just a measily tropical storm when it hit the NE. The greatest danger of tropical systems here is not wind, but freshwater flooding. And it appears we’re going to get a lot of that.
I agree. They should back off and find something else to watch.
I thought the roof was going to blow off my house last night, and I'm not near the shore. Millions are without power. So far, I have power, but it's still raining and the winds are wild.
Agnes was just a measily tropical storm when it hit the NE. The greatest danger of tropical systems here is not wind, but freshwater flooding. And it appears we’re going to get a lot of that.
Maybe we could ask someone from Tuscaloosa, AL about storms that are over in a few minutes....

Will any of you be coming up here to help the way countless numbers of us went south to help out after Andrew, Katrina, Ike, etc?
I think we are all pulling for you and are most happy you didn’t get hit with a major hurricane. Yay! You bit the bullet. Meanwhile here in the Southwest we are dealing with months of life threatening record heat, drought, wildfires, and when we aren’t in drought conditions we deal with thunderstorms, tornadoes and hail far more damaging than Irene with ‘nary a whimper. No 24/7 news coverage, no whining, no drama.
I don’t think the naysayers realize just how much the NE dodged a bullet. Irene had Cat 3 barometric pressure and Cat 1 winds. If Irene had been like Ike, a strong and large Cat 2, well, ask Houstonians what a storm like that can do. The media has a lot of people in place and fortunately the storm was weaker than the conditions indicated. So of course they are reporting silly stuff now. But once the freshwater flooding cranks up, it won’t be so silly.
