It's a hurricane, not Armageddon. Good grief. A Category 1 storm, you'd think "Irene" was the worst storm America has ever endured.

CNN Breaking News: “IRENE Batters Long Island, NY”
(Muliple umbrellas turned inside out!)
To be fair...it’s the continued media hype that’s so funny. When I was in the navy we went through storm preps and then the storm went out to sea and the sun came out and we went golfing at the base course. This stuff happens and preparations are good, even when everything turns out fine. But the media continuing to try and make a mountain out of a mole hill is just comical.
You can be cavalier about this storm but I had to go outside and set up three lawn chairs that were blown over and pick up seven sticks that were blown off a couple trees in my yard. Add to that having to drain about three inches of water from my pool and you can get a sense of the devastation to my property.
Bloomberg is missing out on a great opportunity here, he should be out there with a bullhorn with his arm around Al Roker.
We will not tire, we will not falter, we will rebuild
I wonder how many died in car accidents trying to evacuate from the hurricane...that they didn't have to evacuate from.
The mayors and governors of east coast cities are never going to be able to convince the masses to evacuate after this over-hyped event.
Yes its a storm. Yes there is flooding.
Enough with the whining and crying. Its not a storm of the century event.
I live in PA about 2 hours from the shore. It’s been a wild night with high winds and rain. The wind is still howling. They’re expecting the Delaware River to flood.
If someone would overlay single incidents of thunderstorms this past year with Irene's track, I think it safe to say more death and destruction was created by the thunderstorms.
Ya' shoulda' left it all there and let FEMA clean it up with the Federal money that 0bama is going to give them.
WOW turn up the drama, you don’t have it on quite heavy enough
Fox News has been disparaging all the passers by as if they are stupid dolts, folks jogging down the boardwalk and so on. It sickens me. The truth is these folks have more common sense than these nanny state jerks from all branches of government and the media. The storm turned out to be weak, just like most of them knew it would.
I don’t think I can take anymore of the East Coast news media’s hysteria. This does not appear to be a cataclysmic event and can be adequately covered by local news with hourly updates for the rest of us. I pray all are safe, but come on people. There are other news stories out there. I’ve had Fox on for two hours and still don’t know if the world is spinning outside of NYC. Putting on my flame retardant suit.
You know, there is something called a remote control where you can change the channel. Try using it and let those of us in areas potentially impacted by record flooding get news of such.
Last time I checked there were winds of 65 miles per hour. We have storms like that move through Oklahoma quite often (and yes, lots of local hype). I suppose the hype is to warn the unsuspecting, unaccustomed populace. But enough already. Be prepared but do not panic or induce panic or use the storm as an excuse to boast for political benefit or increase government power.
Here are my two cents: A) you live on the Atlantic coast; B) hurricanes happen; C) be prepared.
That is three cents, but the third one is free.
Storm’s over in NYC. What a bunch of hype. Idiot Bloomberg better get the transit union goofs back to work and get the mass transit system up and running by tomorrow morning.
This is a political storm for the prissy politicians in the White House and the elites in the N.E.
They wanted to showcase their ability to give speeches to save people.....
“I’m not George Bush, and I can manage a storm!”
The surge backed up some bays and rivers and the world is supposed to be aghast.......
People are aware that it is a bad storm. What is remarkable is that the media and the politicians are acting as though it is a Category 5.
It isn’t.
Heh, we had as much rain in about 5 hours last week here in the midwest with inch and a half hail as most of the east coast “panic” areas have had in the last three days. Yeah, when it hit the Carolinas and was up to strength the damage and problems were what they expected, in an area that regularly gets these storms. My son and family live in Maryland and not much of a blip for them from this thing. This is mostly politicians engaging in dick-measuring to show how “in charge” they are.
