Hi everyone. I am getting ready for Browns/ Eagles. and following this thread and everyone’s news.
I hope all Freepers can get out of the way of this monster..and get their parents, other friends to be safe. Every storm breeds it’s bold attitude, testosterone & beer driven I am sure. Invincibility?

up here we think of the tornadoes that spawn off these storms. As much as I have wanted to get back to the coast, at times like this I am glad to be in the rust belt still.

Then, we've been reading that Irene might take a more westward route. We have a full tank of water, lots of food and propane, but which direction to go? I'm hoping that the 8am update tomorrow morning will give us more information.
We have a fairly safe, sheltered placed to ride it out in Utica. Anyone familiar with this Vermont/NY area, please weigh in.
Ok...here’s one for anyone near NYC..
My friend and her 20 something daughter have had a NYC 5 day trip planned for a long time, see a couple Broadway shows, etc. They are still planning to go—fly Sat from FL.
I think its nuts...Am I overreacting? I can’t imagine being in NYC during a major hurricaine...they are assuming that large hotels have generators.
I personally would cancel the trip, take the travel ins money and reschedule. but then, what do I know.

...husband and I are here in Sussex county, about 12 miles from the ocean. We’re gonna batten down...estimate our biggest concern would be a tree falling on the house.
Only place we could go is daughter, who lives near Baltimore...not much better than where we’re at. HER mother-in-law lives in Ocean City, in a mobile home.
All other relatives live along the east coast also right in the path of storm. tomorrow we’re doing inventory outside, anything might be a projectile will be made safe. We’re getting some cash, filling up cars with gas, got batteries, kerosene lantern.
Doing best we can and thinking it will be scary but we’ll get through it.
p.s. LOVED renting an RV several times to watch the final shuttle launches. Great fun!

If I might make one humble suggestion. If you have a pocket knife around, sharpen it and carry it with you. They come in handy in a thousand ways.
Additionally, sharpen all your kitchen knives, your wood saws and check your chain saws. Having spent a few days after a storm, I can assure you that you will need more than one sharp knife and you will need that saw.
Rope or line comes in handy and of course, duct tape. Just sayin’
That is as funny now as it was the the first time I read it. I should include it in the next thread...coming late tonight or early tomorrow morning.
I’ll be in a good spot to ride it out, but thanks for the prayers. Please also pray for all of the morons on the East Coast who don’t do basic prep for this - like having water put aside for drinking and flushing.
That one passed right over my house on the bad side. Watched my neighbor lose his roof and four trees. It took out my attic window and flooded it. Took four days to be able to leave my neighborhood with all the trees blocking the roads, and another 11 to 12 days for electricity to come back on. This thing swings anymore west, maybe 20-25 miles and it’s a basic repeat at a little different angle.
They would be able to arrive Saturday, hole up in the hotel, and the airport should be open when they fly back out.
But will anything worth seeing be open while they are there?

If it does hit the area, the shows they wish to see may be canceled. Even if they have power at the hotel, how fun is being shut in for five days?
Yes! Also a hack saw saved my balcony during Hurricane Frances. The solar pool heater (really big black rubberized mats filled with water) tore away from its roof mooring. It was flapping around on the roof and stressing the 2" pvc pipe attached to my balcony support. Sawed the PVC pipe in two, relieving the stress. Don't recall where the solar pool mat finally landed when it blew off the roof.
