Obama's Jobs Package May Include School Renovations And A Tax Break For Hiring
The president's proposal would mean construction work and an incentive for businesses to add employees. It's expected to come with a plan to reduce federal budget deficits.

Reporting from Washington and Alpha, Ill. The jobs package that President Obama plans to unveil shortly after Labor Day could include tens of billions of dollars to renovate thousands of dilapidated public schools and a tax break to encourage businesses to hire new workers, according to people familiar with White House deliberations.
As aides work to put together the proposal, they are also hammering out a companion plan to reduce federal budget deficits over the next decade, which Obama would share with the 12-member congressional "super committee" charged with finding long-term fixes for the growing national debt.
The deficit reduction plan would rely on some of the ideas Obama worked on in private negotiations with House Speaker John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) this summer, aides said. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss a proposal that is still taking shape.

So what do you think about this passage in the article:
“Supporters estimate that each $1 billion in school construction work would generate up to 10,000 jobs. A $50-billion program, for example, would underwrite half a million jobs by that calculation.”
This just shows how little Obama understands business. Short term tax breaks for new hiring don’t mean that the business can operate profitably. Businesses facing new taxes, the costs of Obamacare and an avalanche of new costly regulations may not be able to make the business expansion needed to make these new jobs possible.
Funny, I thought we had a budget problem. 0 thinks we’re back in 2009. I swear, any republican that votes for this crap is out of office!
Wondering why public schools need building renovations when a higher priority would be stop the cheating and get the dang kids to study and get good grades instead. (i.e Atlanta) No more Federal funds spending to throw down into unproductive Rat holes.
Obama has proposed this exact same “tax break” again and again. He apparently has no idea that employers don’t hire someone based on some one time government incentive. They hire when they NEED someone to perform a task that they cannot or will not do themselves. And lately most employers have all the employees they need.
Didn’t America just experience a gigantic Stimulus bill that was epic fail? Why this insanity of another ‘project’ destined to fail as well. Mental Disorder or Cloward-Piven destruction via the Alinskyites.
Shoot that trial balloon right out of the sky!! And he’s going to give it to the ‘panel’? The surrogate Congress? My FOOT!
My plan is simpler and more effective, fire Obama and all his Marxist buddies and regulators, cut back on regulations and lower taxes and businesses will loosen the purse strings and use thir capital. Otherwise they will just stay Gault..
Of course, the LSM will be breathlessly telling us how visionary Obammy is and how all our economic problems would disappear if only the Tea Party would get out of the way.
This is a huge taxpayer bonus to the Teachers’ Union and Union Construction and Service Employee Jobs, Obama’s key constituencies.
First of all, I don’t think it will ‘create’ any jobs....just prevenmt more layoffs from happening. It really depends on how you look at it. First of all, the max length of any one project would usually be 18 months...so there is no permanence with these jobs. On a job site, I estimate I see around 4 people per million spent, so that would be 4,000 per billion. Throw in people who make and supply materials, maybe it doubles to 8,000. But (I’m doing math in my head, but I think I’m accurate), even at 10,000 jobs per billion, that is still 100k dollars per job. That same billion could instantly go in the economy, with a tax reduction, likely stimulating the economy much more effectively, and certainly more quickly....thus increasing GDP...and not really ‘costing’ anywhere close to a billion. Its obviously a better choice.
Yes, but you forgot to add material suppliers (concrete; flooring, painting; glass; whiteboards; furniture; office equipment); administrative, road paving, sign installation, hauling, and transportation, and playground jobs.
He already did that early on and it did not work.
Many older schools have had asbestos removed, so the majority of them have probably already been renovated by now.
If a tax break is good for hiring workers, then a tax break would be even better for retaining workers.
Tax breaks for everyone!
Thanks for admitting that taxes harm the economy, 0bummer.
Now will you stop attacking employers?
See what happened in the 1990’s with Clinton's 100,000 new police officers. The grants, aka tax breaks, ran out in a few years and the states and municipalities ended up firing the new police officers because they couldn't support them.
What will work is tax code changes that are permanent, or at least as permanent as any tax reductions can be. With he promise of some long term stability businesses will start hiring. A tax break that runs out in a year or three isn't any kind of longer stability.
Obama and reduction in taxes - now those two phrases don't belong on the same page much less the same sentence.
OK, how about some ideas for the Obama jobs plan:
1) Obama will hire a court jester. Jay Carney will feel threatened.
2) Hire people to raise hamsters to propel the next generation of green cars by GM.
3) Let’s redo the census. That employed a lot of people for a while.
4) Obama will hire a double to do the bus tour so that he can get back to the golf course.
“Lets redo the census. That employed a lot of people for a while.”
Maxine Waters would be very happy with this.
