Michele Bachmann's own mother ratted her out for skipping a family reunion - which the Tea Party darling blamed for making her late to an event in Iowa Sunday night.
Bachmann's mom, Jean Amble, and her two cousins told Politico Monday that the Minnesota congresswoman never showed up at the reunion, though hubby Marcus Bachmann and the couple's children did.
Yet when the candidate arrived late to the Black Hawk County Republican Party dinner Sunday night, she told Radio Iowa that she was late because "I had a family reunion north of Waterloo today," Reuters reported.
Texas Governor Rick Perry was also at the event, Reuters said.
Bachmann had repeatedly talked about the family reunion throughout the weekend, Politico pointed out.
On Fox News Sunday she told host Chris Wallace that she was looking forward to seeing her family.
"We're having a big family reunion today in northeastern Iowa so I'll get to go and see all my relatives," she said.
The Des Moines Register also reported that Bachmann had spoken excitedly about attending the reunion - and noted her spokeswoman echoed the sentiment as well.
"Michele got so see family members in town and went to see a shut-in while in Waterloo," campaign spokeswoman Alice Stewart told the newspaper.
The Register also reported that "Iowans - and reporters - have started to take note of Bachmann's late arrivals."
But not Obama’s, of course. I await the rest of the story.
OMG!!!!! Alert the media!!!! Make space on the front page for tomorrows New York Times.....This is a HUGE story!
Michele has hit her high watermark. It’s all downhill from here.
She didn’t say she attended it, she said it was why she was late, which it very well could have been.
Obama is more late than her to everything. Next argument, please.
LOL...she can be happy that Rick Perry didn’t know about her family reunion, or he’d have been there shakin’ their hands and gittin’ their votes.
Bachmann will have to do better than this, since the media will be checking everything she says. She should know this by now.
Someone tell MB to silently walk away.
“Happy !^birthday^! to Elvis on the anniversary of his death? Not truthful in attending the reunion. She is acting like an institutionalized politician.
Alas, poor Michelle...I knew her Horatio!
Well. There’s only one thing for Michele to do.
Throw Mom under the bus.
Well something is rattling her. She made a huge gaffe in an appearance today - wishing Elvis Presley a HAPPY BIRTHDAY; when August 16th is the anniversary of his death in 1977.
Lost a lot of voters with that one.
THAT’S IT!!! I’m never voting for anyone who attends family reunions again. It’s just a bunch of damn people sitting around trashing the people who couldn’t make it anyway. Who needs that? ;-)
Sounds to me like someone didn’t get the story straight. Not a bash by any means, its just a fact of politicking.
I’m actually more interested in what the media lets slide from other candidates.
Unless there is a major shift in the equation between now and January (and obviously there is a fairly good chance of that), Bachmann will win Iowa, Romney will win New Hampshire, and Perry will win South Carolina. Get ready for a long and drawn-out Republican primary season.
It is disappointing because it sound like it was a talking point. Makes her seem like the typical politician. Time for Sarah Palin to get in!
I have a feeling that Michele’s mom is going to be good for a whole bunch of great sound bites.
Something has rattled her - she does not seem so focused.
Today - she made a huge gaffe by wishing Elvis “happy birthday” on a par with Biden’s ‘stand up Chuck’.
As everyone knows: August 16th is the anniversary of Elvis’ death (in 1977).
Bachmann will win Iowa, Romney will win New Hampshire, and Perry will win South Carolina. Get ready for a long and drawn-out Republican primary season.
It wouldn't surprise me if Romney made sure Bachmann has the funds to go on.
She’s probably rattled by Perry getting into the race.
