As America's first black president, Barack Obama electrified an entire nation. But now that the nation is in crisis, he seems unable to connect with the people. He wanted to change America and restore its reputation in the world. But now his opponents are dictating the country's political course.

You'll probably make history as the first President to be tarred, feathered and run out of town on a rail before that!
Change that to electrocuted and you've got it.
I spernt many years in Germany, and yes, everything that is said here would be apparent to any German who paid attention. They are well aware that a man is defined by his culture, not the color of his skin. But of course, four years ago, everything said here was thought of as postive. Certainly no Half-German, half-Turkish man who chose to lives in the Turkish community in Germany could dream of being named Chancellor of Germany. Indeed, if the child of my friends in Germany whose mother is American would not likely be accepted as a candidate by any of the parties, even though their father is German and they were born there.
Without the almost unanimous support of blacks, Obama’s approval ratings would be in the 20s.
Big talk, little man.
Better than being gay, jeesh (not that there’s anything wrong with that).
You are a provocative one, aren’t you?
[creeped out]
Philipp Rösler is Vice Chancellor and head of the FDP.
He was born in Vietnam and adopted by Germans. Culturally I guess he is as German as anyone who lived there 40 years could be, but he's not your typical German.
Its not his fault. Its just that everyone else doesnt understand him.
I don't get that from the article.
They say he was too well-behaved and compromising and eager to please, and hold out the hope that he'll make a comeback, but I can't find the part where they blame his failures on anyone else.
Roesler is exotic.Nothing “exotic” in the nice sense of the word about Turks. The analogy would be a Jew elected from the south, like the Treasury secretary of the Confederacy. But “Turk” = “black.”
He’s egar to please, but it is not the Republicans but the Pelosi-Waxman wing of his Party. Just look at his appointees.
Good one. So true.
well, never ran anything bigger than his mouth...
“but I can’t find the part where they blame his failures on anyone else.”
Really?
How about this?
“With the debt-ceiling debate, the right-wing Tea Party movement has taken both Congress and Obama’s presidency hostage.”
Or this?
“It is no longer the president who determines the issues and sets the tone of the debate, but a small, radicalized group of unashamedly amateur politicians who have declared the government to be their enemy.”
And that’s just 2.
You need to read ‘into’ the article a little bit more.
It’s not hard to spot.
They might even think that it's the other way around -- that another Democrat in the White House not only would have been able to manage the Tea Party, but even to prevent their becoming a factor.
I thought that article was hilarious, a liberal lamenting that his messiah wasn’t liberal enough.
If they are thinking of Hilary, I am think they are probably wrong. She simply doesn’t have the political gifts of her partner in crime.
Only a moron has “dashed hopes” because, “He who never expects is never disappointed.” (Chinese proverb)
And only a moron would have high expectations of a community organizer from Chicago.
>> who started playing basketball, the most popular sport in black America, to become more comfortable in his role as a black man.
LOL, the #ing krauts are hilarious!
