I think they did. At open I saw it drop to -230 or so in the first minute. Now it’s -150 and climbing.

Yep. Pretty bad when you link to
Marketwatch and the lead article says "Get Ready to Tumble".

The Dow will be in the neighborhood of 8,000 by the next election. Not statically there, but been there at some time. Unless they actually fix the deficit spending, and address the mounting debt, the US and world economy cannot recover.

It will drop until 10:am Eastern. Then there will be an uptick as the short sellers lock in their profits. If it sticks we will see the day down only 100 or so. If the uptick immediately heads south again put on your hard hats and watch for falling brokers.

I would buy at some point....this downgrade has been already priced to some extent.
The most cash laden companies...solid ones...they are just waiting out till next November
I used to invest in the markets...day trading.
Buy rumour, sell fact.
Selling now probably makes less sense...although if you dumped NASD in April 2000 at first rumblings you saved 1000s of NASD points of downful
But panic selling is usually just that.
Only stock I own now is private. Markets are too risky for what cash I have left.

5% would be down 600 pts. That would be huge, curious, how old are you?

S and P has a charm offensive out.
However it seems to be failing big time as their credibility is flagging. It is crystal clear their downgrade was a political not ecconomic decision. they keep citing the need for tax increases.
For the big boys who depend on the SandP to push paper it is clear they want a big government tarp2.

Serious? That wouldn't even kick in the Dow Circuit Breakers. Let me know when we go back to 08' when we had -10% plus a couple of times.
People have short memories.
